The biggest issue is that the hotel required me to write down sensitive personal information for my stay. I inquired about it and was told that it was required while I was doing business. Upon check out, I was asked for the information that I wrote down to be shredded and was told that they would keep the information for 3 years!! and would also be storing it. The ‘manager Peter, cursed at me as I recorded when I simply asked him for the card that contained my personal information back so that I can see that it be destroyed properly. I told him that I do NOT give him or this company permission to store my SPI and he told me to call the police or file a lawsuit after I referenced the specific legal requirements for hotels regarding the retention and protection of guest records outlined in the California Civil Code 1799.1a which addresses the handling and destruction of SPI obtained from guests, designed to protect the privacy of hotel guests while ensuring that sensitive information is managed securely.
