I find this review difficult to write as there were many positives about our stay, but there were also some negatives. The apartment is well located in a popular neighbourhood, with lots of restaurants, bars and other entertainments within walking distance. The place is clean and well maintained, with high ceilings, comfortable beds, and lots of space.
We ran into trouble upon check-in, when the key was not in the lockbox. While my husband guarded the car (temporarily illegally parked by the building entrance), I was able to track down a maintenance worker who let me into the building and then I used the code to enter the apartment. The fridge was missing, and there was some clutter in the kitchen area. I retrieved the parking pass, and as we were unloading the car, two guys appeared with a new fridge. Throughout this time, I had been trying to text with the owner, who never replied to my messages, but eventually sent me a message (about an hour after the listed check-in time) saying check-in would have to be delayed due to a maintenance problem. She offered compensation (which we never received) for the delay. Once we were settled in, we enjoyed our stay, though I will caution future visitors that due to the "party" atmosphere of the Gaslamp District, the weekend nights were not quiet ones as music and voices from the street carried up into the apartment until late into the night. Finally: beware: you are not allowed to flush any toilet paper down the toilet!!
