Stay in San Andres
Let me first say that we had an amazing time in San Andres. Sandra, who is your main contact there, was amazing and so helpful. We speak Spanish, so that was not an issue; I don't know how well she speaks English as we never communicated that way. However, she attended to all our needs and directed us to a fantastic stay.
San Andres is probably one of the poorer islands in the Caribbean. Since it can't take cruise ships, it relies on Colombian tourists. I don't think there are a lot of expats visiting the island. Everything is imported, including a lot of the fish you eat there. Sadly, there is not a lot of fresh fish in the restaurants!! Surprising for an island!!
The accommodations were fine. We stayed in the two bedroom and were thus able to spread out and be very comfortable. However, I would tell someone from the US to understand that it is not a US property. From the gas range to the hot water, you must understand that you are not in the US. To get consistent hot water for a shower, we had to turn on the water in the kitchen sink to get enough pressure on the hot water tank. My assumption was that it was a tankless hot water heater. The gas range wasn't the nicest and would let out a lot of fumes. However, it all worked and was worth it to us!!
The location is great but a problem at the same time. It is at the island's far end, without any stores or decent restaurants around you. Sandra can help you rent something for transport! Highly recommend.
