The Legend of Casa Lumenez:
In 1502 Christopher Columbus made the first European landfall along a new stretch of the Central American shoreline. The area's lushness and apparent wealth earned it to be named Costa Rica which means rich coast.
Following three hundred years of Spanish rule Costa Rica along with other Central American provinces declared its independence in 1821. By then most of the original cultures had vanished and their historic vestiges were overtaken by the country's dense and rampant vegetation.
Rare excavations near the exceptional site of Casa Lumenez have yielded relics of pre-Columbian inhabitants. According to legend, the property's amazing setting may have been a ceremonial site for ancient indigenous cultures.
During the last century the property fell into neglect and was quasi abandoned. A few years ago the property was fully rehabilitated and its crumbling buildings were renovated and expanded.
Today's Casa Lumenez combines the elegance of historic Spanish colonial style with modern architectural flair and Eco-minded features. Every aspect of the property is intended to enhance guests' enjoyment of the property's amazing setting while remaining true to the Casa Lumenez legend.
