A charming Georgian Manor with 9 renovated bedrooms, each with their own private bathroom, sleeping up to 20 people, set in 25 acres of Wiltshire countryside near Stonehenge & Salisbury. Dining room for up to 30, playground, pool table, tennis court and walled garden. Explore Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset & Somerset as almost equidistant to Bath, Marlborough, Winchester, Southampton & Shaftesbury.
For an extra cost, a library can be converted into a 10th bedroom with an ensuite (sleeps up to 2 people), and there is also a self-contained one bedroom annexe at the back of the house (sleeps up to 2 people). This means the beds on the estate total up to 24, plus cots and one toddler bed are also available.
Eclectic, English country decor with generous ground floor living spaces including a large kitchen that centres around the old Aga, a drawing room, a dining room (seating for 5 to 30 people), a sitting room, a library with a private bathroom and shower (for people or dogs!) and a laundry room.
The library can be converted into a ground floor bedroom at an extra cost for those who can’t easily climb stairs, or just for the extra bedroom, with its own ensuite with walk-in shower and toilet. This would make 10 bedrooms in the house. There is also an annex attached to the back of the house with a kitchen, sitting room, bedroom and ensuite bathroom which can also be rented, subject to availability and at an extra cost.
The first floor is split into two wings. The Victorian wing is easily closed off with its own entrance/exit should COVID restrictions mean 4 households need to be split into 2 or 3 households.
There are extensive private gardens including a lovely walled "secret garden" next to the house with a large lawn area for sunbathing, reading and relaxing.
"The Glade" sits behind an old Yew tree perfect for climbing, and it is a hidden playground for children with a trampoline, swings, sandpit, playhouse and picnic area. Nestled between the driveway hedges and the walled garden, the Glade would go unnoticed by those visiting without children.
A 1.5km woodland path, the "Groggie Way", has been created behind the house and is suitable for walking, wheelchairs, bicycles, etc. It passes the old tennis court, which isn't up to use for a proper game as the tarmac is coming up, but it can be used for casual hits, or for children to ride bikes and scooters.
The front of the house has a large flat lawn which can be used for croquet, sprinting races, cricket and other games. Equipment is supplied including two large football goals hiding in the Glade to drag out for serious kick arounds.
There is a basement with a snooker/pool table and toys/books for younger children.
There is a hot tub beside the house open all year with stunning views to the horse fields.
There are tenants in some smaller properties around the estate, but none have access to the main house or its gardens, which are strictly private for our guests. It is marked clearly where property might be private.
We are set up primarily for family groups. Unfortunately, we cannot take bookings from groups that are 100% adults, unless additional information is provided prior to booking. Please enquire for this information.
There are stables and a field available for guests wanting to bring a horse or pony, which is by separate agreement with the livery for c. £40/night. The livery is not operated by the owners of the house and we do not accept any responsibility for guests using this service, although we have been advised that the livery has the necessary liability insurances.
It is sometimes possible to arrange pony rides for guests but requires a disclaimer to be be signed and is negotiated directly with the livery. There is a formal pony club 2 mins drive away which offers excellent "own a pony" days for beginners or beyond, and also "safaris" on horseback along the Salisbury Plains.
There are tenants in some smaller properties around the estate, including an Annexe attached to the rear of the house, but there is sound insulation and no other estate tenants have access to the main house or its gardens, which are private and strictly for the main house guests.
