Cloud Cabin is a stylish contemporary redesign of a modern house with deliberately flexible sleeping and living arrangements, which makes it equally suitable for larger groups of friends and family but just as perfect for smaller ones.
There are up to five bedrooms, or three/four bedrooms plus extra living spaces.
Recently refurbished it is warm, draught-proof, double-glazed, well-insulated and heated entirely by green energy from solar and wind power.
All beds have luxury memory foam mattresses and stylish, quality linens plus high quality duvets and pillows - plus beautiful extra throws and quilts for colder months. All the bedrooms also have either painted hardwood shutters or lined curtains for an almost perfect blackout, as well airy linens for shade on sunny days.
The large, reclaimed scaffold plank dining table room comfortably seats 10 and there's beautiful tableware (and cookware) in the very well-equipped kitchen (even for rainy day cake baking or ravioli making!) The main living room has three generous, squishy velvet sofas, a large pouffe plus a sheepskin-covered ottoman for chilling and chatting with friends and family. If bedroom 5 is used an extra living room there is more seating (plus a projector) as a further lounge space.
The back garden is a sunny sub-tropical retreat filled with bamboos, palms and olive trees. Outdoor dining tables and benches catch the morning and midday sun and there's a double hammock on the lawn. On the deck is a large and beautifully furnished glass-fronted cabana with a bespoke upholstered sofa, large leather armchair and plenty of indoor/outdoor seating and garden cushions to move into the garden on warmer days. You'll also find a basket of vintage Welsh blankets in here for wrapping up warm on chilly evenings. Sustainable local charcoal and chopped wood is sold at Salts Farm Shop just down the road on the way to Rye.
The palm-filled front garden is filled with sunshine all afternoon. There's loads of low level pallet seating (the cushions are kept in the cabana) plus an extra-long railway sleeper bench. The lightweight wood-only firepit can be used here (marshmallow toasting anyone?) or carried into the back garden. Bedroom 4 has full height bifold doors opening onto the front courtyard garden while patio doors from the main living room (and one from the kitchen) open onto the rear garden. An exterior side passage with gate connects the two garden areas. Both front and back gardens have plentiful festoon lighting for magical evenings outdoors.
The Sleeping arrangements:
Bedrooms 1 and 2 are upstairs next the bathroom and have kingsize beds
Bedroom 3 is also upstairs next to the bathroom and has a full-sized bunk bed plus roll out trundle (slightly smaller than a single). When the trundle is in use too the bedroom is cozy but great fun for kids sharing!
Full upstairs bathroom with a deep and luxurious contemporary slipper bath, electric power shower and stylish fittings
Bedroom 4 is downstairs and is a mezzanine level with two single beds, semi-open plan over bedroom 5. It is accessed by steep but sturdy fixed ladder stairs. This means it is only suitable for older children, teens and smaller, agile adults. As a mezzanine this space has restricted head height. While there is storage for clothes and belongings it does not have a full height wardrobe and is more suited to be thought of as a (comfortable) sleeping space.
Bedroom 5 has two comfortable single Habitat sofa beds (there are deep, luxury toppers for them) and is on the ground floor (with the mezzanine above it). This room can be either a fifth bedroom/a third reception room/a private lounge for bedroom four or a dedicated office or cinema room (there's a pull down projector screen and portable projector in this space).
There's a very detailed floorplan at the end of the photos but do get in touch with any questions about the layout after looking at the floorplan.
Also on the ground floor are a cloakroom (toilet with hand basin) plus two further luxe shower rooms with rain style showerheads. One of these has a shower and basin, the other is a shower only. Please note Air BnB listings only allow for listings to add ‘full bathroom with toilet and bath plus shower’ or ‘cloakroom with toilet and basin’ and not ‘shower room’.
Everywhere is furnished with a cool mix of vintage finds and modern pieces in muted Nordic shades with fluffy sheepskins, textured throws and cushions, and an airy coastal cabin feel. You'll also find a complimentary top-notch inflatable paddleboard under the stairs.
As a house for smaller groups, or where 5 people want a separate bedroom each, it is very generous with sleeping and living space. For larger groups it is very cost-effective as the extra living spaces can become bedrooms while still retaining ample reception space. For a large party, who are flexible about sleeping arrangements, compared to a house with five full-time dedicated double bedrooms Cloud Cabin is very good value. But please bear in mind bedroom four is a mezzanine and bedroom five has two single sofa beds.
Cloud Cabin is two minutes walk from the dunes, in a quiet, modern, modest, residential cul de sac, with three private parking spaces. It is a remodelled 1980s built house, not a thatched cottage, and the exterior is contemporary. The lovely neighbours are all long-term Camber residents. There are three shops within a five minute walk and several bars and restaurants too including the award-winning Gallivant.
Please note there is some road noise when sitting in the garden and in high summer season some noise can occasionally be heard from the holiday parks further down the road. This is not excessive but worth reiterating that Camber is a busy village based around a very popular beach and is not a secluded hamlet! Out of season it is very quiet but in school holidays (and fine weekends the rest of the year) it's popular with both day trippers and holidaymakers.
The house has three off-road, private parking spaces which is a very rare find in Camber.
I am a very responsive host and always on hand 8am-11pm approx for questions and help over the app or phone. My housekeeping team live nearby if needed.
**There is no TV at Cloud Cabin** This is a deliberate choice for those who want a retreat from every day life. However there is a TV licence and good wifi plus a pull-down screen and projector for guests to stream on their own devices if they wish.
