The Apple Store, Great Doward In The Wye Valley
The Apple Store is a self contained annexe to 'Old Kiln House', which is an 18th century farmhouse and cider orchard. Situated on 'Great Doward, a hill of mixed farm and woodland set in the lower Wye Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the property has extensive views across the Wye Valley. Numerous excellent walks begin right from the doorstep and King Arthur's Cave can be seen and easily visited from the Apple Store. It's a charming place hidden away in beautiful surroundings. Sheep grazing around are a nice feature!
We truly had the best time and enjoyed every minute of our stay.
The location was perfect and the peace and tranquillity were just what was needed.
Many thanks.
The old Apple Store has been tastefully renovated.
Hosts very friendly and helpful
Countryside is beautiful- did many local walks plus the canoe day trip.. much enjoyed our 2 weeks in the Wye Valley
What a trip! The property was the perfect place for friend, son and I. It has such a homely feel, the travel cot was set up in advance and Christmas lights still on. The area is stunning and the sheep had a few friendly chats with my baby boy who loved that they would come to the fence to see him!

Perfect little cottage hidden away in the country
We have stayed in several cottages in the area and this one is our favourite so far.
The cottage was very clean and equipped with everything we could need, the owners live next door and made us feel very welcome.
If you like walking or have a dog with you the location couldn’t be more perfect as there are lots of woodland walks to explore.
The three of us found this the perfect place to relax and recharge. The cottage is well equipped! The neighboring sheep delightful. Walks galore in the area as well as charming villages and good restaurants. The Apple Store won’t disappoint!
We were warmly welcomed by our hosts. The Apple store is cosy and well equipped. We enjoyed the beautiful outlook and watching the sheep in the valley and feeding the pet sheep. Fox cubs, a deer and many different birds kept us watching the wildlife. We were perfectly placed to visit local attractions as well as further afield.
Lovely place, very clean, wonderful views from the garden, beautiful walks in the woods and by the river, great hosts on hand if you should need them
Thank you
The property is a little dark inside but very comfortable. My favourite part of the holiday was eating a beautiful lasagne outside, it was magical. The pastoral scene was bucolic.
We enjoyed are stay even though the cottage was a little remote. There was a few areas where the property could have been cleaner. Kitchen floor
Cupboards and cutlery trays in particular. Hosts lovely
Myself and my family absolutely loved this place. The hosts were lovely, discrete but always available if we had needed them (which we didn't as the property was very well prepared). Communication was also super easy. The property itself was immaculate with the garden views being the highlight, with the sun out and just the sheep to keep you company, it was the perfect setting. The local area is absolutely stunning and everything we needed was just a short drive. The walks from the property were also lovely, especially through the woods down to the river. Great time here.
We were after some peace and quiet, time for family catch up and time outdoors with the dog. The location couldn't have been better, close to local nature reserves and places to wander. There was a lot of rain and flooding so we stuck to the bigger roads and more accessible areas but still had a fab time.
The cottage is clean, comfortable and has all the basic stuff you need for a trip away. The floorboards creek, the decor is a little old fashioned but it's an old barn, so that's part of the charm!
The views from outside are lovely. The hosts were friendly and helpful.
We will go back again.
We stayed in the cottage for 2 1/2 weeks and this became a real home-from-home for us. The cottage is warm and inviting, with everything we needed to live comfortably. The location suited us perfectly - remote countryside setting yet only 10 minutes from the center of Monmouth. Sarah and Dom were great hosts: close at hand were there to have been any problems, but affording us complete privacy. Sarah was marvelous at communicating with us from the very start of the reservation process through check-out. We look forward to returning in the not too distant future.
I took my aunt away for a week to the Apple Store and we really enjoyed the peace and quiet. Sarah and Dom are great hosts. The cottage is warm and very comfortable. The local area is beautiful. We went to Monmouth, Abergavenny, symonds Yat and the sculpture Trail in The Forest of Dean and I walked down to Biblins and crossed the fabulous rope bridge. If you like walking there are loads of great walks locally and further a field. The only very small downside for us was my aunt not being able to use the shower due to the high step in and out with no handle to aid balance so after the first day she didn’t use it again. It didn’t spoil our enjoyment though and we would happily go there again.
Quiet countryside location with lovely views from the garden. The house is compact but cosy and private, despite being close to the owner’s home. Really well equipped and loved the little touches such as posy of fresh flowers, hand wash at every sink, washing line in the garden and bins in every room. These are small things but we’ve been to much larger, ‘luxury’ properties that have lacked these. Because the property is renovated around the original Apple store most of the rooms have small, slit windows which makes some of the rooms dark, but this didn’t spoil our stay. We also enjoyed meeting the friendly sheep. Left feeling wonderfully relaxed and hope to return in the future.
Fantastic place to stay, unwind and be at one with nature! Not quite in the middle of nowhere but close enough. There are shops locally but we took what we needed for our stay so we could get away from everything. We ditched the car and walked everywhere. The forest is on your doorstep and a nature reserve just over the road.. Ideal place if you have dogs, enjoy walking and want to get away from daily life, just be aware of the hills. The house was cosy. A peaceful haven where you can sit outside and listen to the birds singing. My only criticism is the vrbo site, I went through the booking process at least four times and didn’t see where to add in dogs! The hosts were amazing though so we were able to pay on arrival for our four legged friends. This place is a definite must for those wanting to ditch the car!
