Peaceful creek-front cabin in the Ozark foothills, near historic Cherokee sites

The Saline Cabin in Rose, Oklahoma is a newly remodeled cabin with every modern update a guest might desire, nestled in the beautiful foothills of the Oklahoma Ozarks. Named for the historic Saline District of the Cherokee Nation, it was one of the most natural resource-rich and affluent areas of the Cherokee Nation in Indian Territory before Oklahoma statehood.

For guests seeking a quiet getaway, its location along an artesian spring guarantees relaxation. Hidden away by a small valley, the cabin backs up to the prairie and faces a wooded area that welcomes deer, squirrels and other wildlife, including Sandhill Crane that frolic in the creek — all just a few short steps from the front door!

But the creek isn't only for our wildlife friends. We provide floaties for the kids, lawn chairs, a charcoal grill, picnic tables, beach towels, and plenty of parking to host family get-togethers, class reunions, team hot-dog roasts, company team-building exercises, etc. The clear, pristine water is ideal for families with small children as the creek is no more than three to four feet deep. There are even multiple swimming holes stretching along five acres of the property!

At night, build a fire and roast marshmallows while the sound of cicadas fills the air and catch fireflies on the backdrop of the most breathtaking stars in the darkest night sky with no light pollution nearby.

There is no shortage of experiences for outdoor explorers searching for fun in the sun or adventure nearby. Attractions include historical sites like the Cherokee Nation's historic Saline Courthouse Museum, only a half-mile away from the cabin. It's also where the artesian spring that flows in front of the home originates. Then visit the Battle of Locust Grove Civil War site in nearby Locust Grove. There, you'll also find the Willard Stone Museum, the Rural Oklahoma Museum of Poetry, and Magic Showplace Theater. Then dine at the regional favorite Country Cottage Restaurant or grab a latte or sandwich at the always hospitable Wonder City Coffee.

Saline Cabin is close to some of Oklahoma's most incredible outdoor activities. For those wanting to stay within a 20 to 30-minute drive, try Natural Falls State Park near Colcord, Rocky Ford State Park, the Illinois River or Lake Hudson. Or, in less than an hour, visitors can be on Grand Lake near Jay, Langley or Grove, on Lake Tenkiller at Keys, Spavinaw State Park or Lake Eucha. OR — stop by one of the many historical and cultural sites in Tahlequah and Park Hill.

If the great outdoors aren't calling your name, Saline Cabin is centrally located between northwest Arkansas and Tulsa — the two best metro areas Oklahoma and Arkansas have to offer.

When it's time to retire for the evening, prepare a meal in the open concept living/kitchen/dining area in Saline Cabin with brand new Samsung appliances. Then gather the family on the sectional sofa, which visitors can arrange to create the relaxing experience you desire. Take in a movie on the 71-inch TV before retiring to the primary bedroom, which features a queen-sized bed with extra pillows for extra comfort. The second bedroom is a bunk bed with a full-sized mattress on the bottom bunk and a twin-sized mattress on the top bunk. (kids only on the top bunk, please!)

Small pets are allowed, but please disclose size and type in advance. Also be aware that there are two Great Pyrenees dogs that watch over the cattle herd and roam the area, and they may be frequent visitors.

Tucked inside the sectional storage are more than a dozen board games, blankets and extra supplies. An LG wash tower/dryer is in the laundry room, with laundry soap and more. Please feel free to email us with any questions. We pride ourselves on our property and want you to feel at home during your stay! Thank you for considering a stay with us!

**** IMPORTANT: The cabin is on the edge of a working farm in a rural area. Please be prepared to see AND experience rural living once you leave the home and begin exploring outside the gated yard. Depending on the season you visit, that may include (but not be limited to) bugs, flies, ticks, spiders, wasps, bees, possums, hoot owls, skunks, buzzards and even coyotes late at night. (but never all at once!) Don’t worry, none of it should alarm you. We keep the house stocked with bug spray and directions on how to remove and/or treat any bug or tick bites. It’s all part of living in the country. :-)

There are also Black Angus cattle and free range chickens on other parts of the farm, so if you’d like to arrange a visit or purchase farm fresh eggs or fresh beef, steaks, ribs, etc., please contact your host about adding onto your package! ****

Fantastic relaxing family getaway!!
My husband and I took our two kids (ages 5 and 6) for a long weekend and it couldn’t have been better! The cabin has a clean modern interior and it’s located on a working farm. The family’s Great Pyrenees dogs came to visit us each day which my kids loved. We felt like we were off the grid but funny enough, the WiFi and cell reception are great. Since there were no other people around we felt like we had infinite space to walk around. The creek is crystal clear. We went horse back riding an hour away and built fires near the creek in the fire pit. We flew a kite, played a lot of board games, and watched a movie on the huge tv. The hosts made everything so easy and the trip was a great stress reliever. Our kids are asking when we get to go back.

Met breeder halfway to pick up a puppy. Wanted somewhere to stay that was quiet, with yard to walk dogs. This farm was perfect. House has been completely redone on the inside, extra clean and nice. Very relaxing. Also got some great steaks from Amanda.

Quiet Setting on the Farm
I wanted to get the boys away from the City for spring break and this cabin did not disappoint! The kids loved the creek, watching movies and enjoyed having their own bunk space. Restaurants were close enough but I enjoyed the fully-equipped kitchen for making my own meals (food allergies). The beds were all comfortable with crisp, clean linens and PLENTY of towels. There is also a friendly dog nearby that we fell in love with. It was a great getaway, very picturesque, very quiet. Close to parks, lakes and Tulsa, which is what we did. Had a great time!!!

Quiet
If you enjoy quiet, this little out of the way house will work. It’s a bit rough around the edges so don’t expect luxury. Amanda is great and goes out of her way to make your stay pleasant. The place looks to be a work in progress so it will be interesting to see what she does with it. It needs some rugs, things on the walls to make it feel finished. What is there is super cute! The kitchen is well appointed, which was great.

Wonderful cabin on peaceful creek!
We had the most relaxing family (of three) getaway. We arrived after dark and were greeted by Piggy and Lucy who showed us the way to the cabin. On day 2 we stayed by the creek the majority of the day, enjoying a nap outside by the creek for myself and husband and son playing and exploring. We visited the Saline Courthouse Museum and that property was beautiful as well (museum closed on Sunday but grounds are open daily); thereafter we drove into Locust Grove for the buffet at Country Cottage which was so incredibly delicious! Lucy and Piggy joined us by the creek for several hours watching over us and the field, getting scritches, and playing with one another. We had such a wonderful stay and will be back many times in the future! Cabin was cozy and accommodating, property was beautiful, host is a great communicator, and the dogs we an extra unpaid treat!

Peaceful, perfect weekend
Everything was exactly as described in the listing. The house was adorable and immaculate. Everything you could possible need is provided. We also took the host up on her offer to leave a dozen farm fresh eggs in the fridge. The host was incredibly easy and clear with her communication (very prompt). The creek outside was pristine and crystal clear and we enjoyed wading and swimming in it! We celebrated our anniversary/birthday and we couldn't have had a more relaxing weekend. We would definitely want to stay here again. There is no way to go wrong booking this house for a vacation! And the pups hung out with us all weekend and were super sweet- very well mannered.

Family bonding time
The home is in the perfect place! It’s private quiet and so so serene. There is a place by the creek where you can sit have a picnic, or just spend time alone with your thoughts, or the Lord. The home is beautiful, it has everything you need with good quality stuff. Now I have to be honest those mattresses have to go; my only complaint. Overall my husband and I feel we made a great choice in selecting this home we felt safe. The whole town and surrounding areas the people were amazing so nice and friendly. The two dogs that lives there are truly protectors, they don’t get in your way or bother you.

The place was extremely clean and was stocked with everything you need. They also have the sweetest dogs. If you're looking to get away to a relaxing and peaceful place, this is it! We had a great time getting away from the city and having family time. Everything was provided for us to be able to cook all of our meals and loved having fresh eggs every morning and beef for burgers that we purchased from their farm. Everything was very clean and the owner was very quick in responding to any needs or questions we had. Our favorite was picnics and playing in the creek with our 3 year old who loved it! Great cabin, great host!
A friend and I decided to do a three-day road trip based on a photo I saw of the "overhang road" along SH 10. I knew the area was rich in history of the Cherokee Nation. We were extremely lucky to find out about this cabin. The photos perfectly reflect the cabin and surrounding creeks and the friendly farm dogs that keep an eye on everything. The creek water was crystal clear, something I don't think I've seen in all my years living in Oklahoma. Amanda truly thinks about visitors in how she set up the cabin and provides guests with museum/restaurant/attraction suggestions. No hotel can match a chance to stay at this cabin!

I'm not sure where to start. The house is so beautifully remodeled and Amanda makes sure you have everything you need and so much more. Truly, everything she's supplied is beautiful and will serve a purpose. Amanda is absolutely incredible with communication. The beautiful, crystal clear spring was one of my favorites about this place. The adorable, sweet Great Pyrenees dogs led us to the cabin when we arrived, it was dark and I hadn't read all the directions, the dogs appeared and led the way. They were a huge favorite of mine as well. The location to so many awesome places cannot be ignored either. Beds were super comfy, so many games supplied, and the 70in TV did NOT disappoint. I'm planning a return trip as soon as the dates are available. I didn't want to leave.

Best Vrbo yet!!!
This place is amazing! I don’t even know where to start! Amanda and her mom, Pat are amazing people and go well beyond to make sure your stay is incredible. Cabin was stocked with amazing amenities, more than we could have hoped for. The beds were incredibly comfy, it was wonderful. Now for the outside. ❤️ The “yard” attached to the cabin is pretty well fenced in. We had kids in age from 8months to 9. They all loved it. The creek was ice cold, totally clear and it was all ours! We did not have to share! There are deeper swimming holes for the older kids, but it’s mostly perfect for the smaller ones and exploring. There is picnic tables, corn hole etc. I cannot say enough good things about this place. We will be back for sure. Mainly for the fresh eggs and steaks! Don’t forget to ask about those! Oh and when you go, tell Piggy and Lucy we miss them!
