Save yourself the hassle and go elsewhere
On arrival, we were slightly early, and although we were told that the room was ready we could not go up until exactly 2pm, he would rather send us back out into the pouring rain. At 2pm the guy that checked us in did not give us a key to our room safe, nor the code fr the gate to the "around the corner entrance" to the building our room was in. On getting to the room, the wifi was non-existent and the air con did not work. Forget dialling 9 for reception, tried 6 times and no answer. After going to reception twice to sort the issues - because "the wifi works fine in reception". I don't think any of the staff have ever been into some of the rooms. After being told there was absolutely nothing they could do, and a to and fro, they eventually gave in and put us in another room. The aircon worked, the fridge didn't, the door was falling off its hinges to the outside, mould evident everywhere. At least the air con worked in that room. Wifi was hopeless at best, their best solution was "come and sit in reception and there's nothing more we can do". After putting our foot down they seemed to come to the party a bit better and became more helpful once I told them a few options they did have available. Or maybe they just got better when I stopped asking them to deliver what we paid for? We had given up hope of getting what we paid for. Excellent location. Breakfast was ok. Would definitely not return. Just save yourself the hassle! Or be prepared for an underwhelming experience!

Recommendable point is only location
I cannot recommend anything about this hotel except location. In our room, there was a temporary floor lamp instead of a removed ceiling light but it did not work. One of bed-side lamp was broken and bulb was dead. I asked reception to repair them or provide emergency measures but he had no idea. We spent two nights with unsatisfied lighting. No WiFi service. No receptacles for our electric plugs and devices. Room air conditioner does not work. No reception desk. (it is located in the next building. I do not know it is temporary or not.) Breakfast is served at the top of the building but the room has no wall. it might be too drafty in winter. This hotel is the worst in my life.

Great location, but not very comfortable
This hotel is in a fantastic location just minutes away from the Colosseum and Roman Forum, so that is tough to beat. Overall the room was clean, but the rug looked like it should have been replaced 10 years ago and the shower was barely big enough to stand in, let alone move around. They did have a hairdryer, the wifi worked pretty well, and we had an incredible view. The hotel staff were also nice and did give us a good room for our honeymoon, but overall it was just very uncomfortable as bed was a hard foam mattress and it was very loud all night due to street noise (I read other reviews about the noise and did not think anything of it, but it really is impossible to sleep without being woken up by a trash truck, ambulance, etc).

Better than I expected!
We had just arrived from Paris (where everyone was rude and non-helpful) and was very nervous about this hotel as from the outside it didnt look so nice. We went to check in and the front desk lady was beyond sweet and helpful. she walked us all the way to our room and helped carry our luggage. There were complimentary maps in the lobby which she circled main sights and the distance. Also recommended a few restaurants for us to try. The room was clean and not huge but spacious enough for what we needed. Most importantly the Air conditioning worked which was a blessing as it was in the 90's. the WIFI didnt work very well but down in the lobby it worked fine. If I were to return i'd definitely book richmond again. Thanks to a great staff

Awful hotel, definitely not 4 stars
The WiFi wasn't working except in the lobby, which the security guard didn't even tell me about when I checked in late at night. I'm so sick of hotels advertising free WiFi throughout and then it doesn't work or you have to be in the lobby for it. Other than that, the hotel was a 3-star at best. Way over priced for the quality, I don't care how close to the Colosseum it is. Also, they didn't tell me what time breakfast was, so when I got there at 10, the woman in charge of the restaurant gave me attitude cause apparently it's over at 10.

Rome fun times
This hotel is in an excellent location, less than 5 mins walk from colosseum and about 20mins from squares with lovely eating places. The rooms are basic and depending on whether you stay in an unrefurbished or refurbished room depends on whether your room looks a bit shabby or not. Also beds are 2 singles pushed together rather a double. All in all we enjoyed our stay.

Awesome location, less desirable hotel room
If this hotel would have been in the United States and we paid what we paid for it, we would rate it a 1/10. The hotel room and furnishings were in poor condition. The bathroom was growing mold. It was impossible to shower unless someone was holding the shower hose up for you, because it didn't connect to the wall. The room also didn't seem very secure because the door frame was broken. Also, there is not an overhead light, only small lamps. The wi fi only works in about a six foot radius at the front desk. The saving grace of the hotel is the location. The proximity of this hotel to the Colesseum is unbeatable. This part of Rome is much more appealing than the Vatican neighborhood. The sheets were always clean and Sara, the receptionist, was helpful. The breakfast was simple, but good. This is a good hotel if you aren't picky about the room. If you are looking for a romantic getaway, this would probably not be the best option. It worked okay for us because we were sightseeing all day.

Not worth the cost, does not qualify for 4 star
This by far has been the worst experience. From the time we checked in, we were told that free wi-fi does not work or works very little anywhere but in the lobby. That was not indicated in the hotel info and it was important to me as I had to work while in Italy. Even with wi-fi in the lobby my phone/laptop were constantly dropping connection and most of the time could not even connect to network - poor signal. This hotel looked more like an apartment complex that was converted into hotel. Entry to hotel lobby and breakfast area was in the different building so we had to leave the building we had our room in and walk through the street to get to breakfast. This is nowhere mentioned in the hotel description either. When we got to the room, telephone was barely working. We tried calling downstairs/front desk and call out and many times we had to wiggle cords before getting a decent dial tone, otherwise phone was dead. We had burned out lights in the bathroom, which we reported right away after the checking in and it was never fixed/addressed. We tried to plug in a stand up lamp to get more light into the room as it was dark and dungeon like and after it would not work, we walked to front desk yet again and asked them to fix it. The fix was - we were told not to turn it on/not to plug it in or other things in the room (lights, A/C, and etc.) would not work. That the last straw. Lastly, shower was so small we could barely fit into it and TV had only 10 non English channels.

Location!
While our hotel room was small, the bed was comfortable & room kept clean. The decor was nicely thought out too! Unfortunately the walls had evidence of mould & water damage which may be a sign of the age of the building. It did make the to seem damp which was a shame! The staff were all very very helpful, friendly and made us feel at home. The location was key! This hotel was right next to The Forums & around the corner from the Colleseum... We were here over New Year's Eve and in the heart of a party (fireworks/concert/dancing). Absolutely brilliant!

Great Location...Friendly staff...........
The Richmond is a really cozy hotel in an excellent location. It is right across the street from the Roman Forum and right around the corner from the Colosseum. Nice large window that overlooks the old city area. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Room #205, was only about 9 x 11 - There are four restaurants right outside that have decent reasonably priced food. They have Wifi which can be accessed in the lobby but only now and then in the rooms. They do not offer use of a computer in the lobby which, after I sat on my laptop, made it difficult to stay in touch. Desk clerks were unaware of any nearby computer stations, but found one only a block away on my last night there. Great staff and decent eggs / meat rolls type breakfast. In my opinion, the great staff and really great location more than balances the above negatives. I was a single traveller, stayed there six nights and would definitely stay there again.

Classical ancient Rome at your doorstep
The personnel (Favio, Anna Marie, etc.) were wonderful. The front desk was actually at the hotel next door during my stay. My single room was really tiny, though it contained a full size and comfortable bed. The "closet" was located so high up that I couldn't reach the hangers. There was no phone and no chair or luggage rack (or space for either). And the elevator was a wobbly thing. But it was clean and everyone was friendly and helpful. Plus the location was excellent and the view from my window superb.

The mattresses are not comfortable at all - way to firm. The security gate leading into the hotel was broken. Great location and restaurant right across was awesome - best pizza in town! Front Desk was helpful and Roof top restaurant was not bad. Elevator is old and shuts immediately when floor button selected. WIFI was horrible - had to go to other hotel's lobby to use it.

An ok hotel in an incredible location!
The hotel accommodations were good, not great. The room was clean and had been remodeled last year. The bathroom was clean but still needs some updating because the shower was about 2 feet x 2 feet square and very small to shower in. BUT, the location of the hotel made up for any inconvenient in the room. The view from our room was the FORUM across the street! The roof top, where breakfast was served every day, has a view of the Coliseum! Everyday when we left the hotel we saw the Coliseum and the Forum. And when we went out to tour the city, we didn't have to go very far. The subway is close and busses are everywhere. The hotel staff was excellent. They offered a lot of help, basically functioned as a travel agent. They made phone calls for us, provided information about Rome and about tours, and searched the internet for information for us. The free internet worked well everyday, you just have to get a code from the front desk that works for 5 days. The bed was comfortable for my wife and I. We also had our 20 year old daughter with us. She had just finished a month of Study Abroad in Rome. Getting a room for 3 in Europe can be difficult, but we ended up with a room for us with another room with a couch / pullout bed and a half bath. So my daughter had her own room! This was much better than I expected. There was plenty of room to walk around the beds and places to store the suitcases. I would stay there again because it was clean and the location is incredible!

What a dump. This is not a 4 star star hotel.
They don't even have a receptionist. We waited hours until someone came to tell us we need to check in at a different hotel. Rooms not clean, AC hardly working, very noisy! Beds not comfortable and No hotel staff to talk to. This hotel is not a 4 star and should not be rated at all. I had never stayed anywhere worse than this place. I had trusted Expedia with my reservations, but no more. Shame on you guys.

Great Location for Sight-Seeing
The Richmond has a terrific location, right at the ruins of the forums and just one block from the colosseum. The front desk staff is really helpful and informative. They took a lot of time with us to make sure we got all the answers to our questions (and saved us from making the mistake of taking our baggage on the metro at rush hour). The hotel itself is a little run-down, and the reception desk is actually at its sister hotel, the Hotel de Rome (which actually seems much nicer than the Richmond). That said, it was clean, the air conditioning worked, and it was perfect for a few days in Rome.

Good location, busy and noisy street
Location was very close to Colosseum and Metro stop. Finding hotel was challenging. Many restaurants and shops nearby. Hotel was basically worn looking. Room carpet was very unclean looking. Bathroom appeared to be cleaned BUT was in poor condition - toilet seat cracked, mold along caulking in sink and tub. Tub was only a hand shower but no curtain, therefore no ability to really shower. Floor seemed unclean. Bed was excellent and linens very fresh. Breakfast was excellent - many food choices. Breakfast was served on a rooftop patio which was very pleasing. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Great location but room smelled like sewage
The hotel is 1/4 mile from the Colliseum and right next to the Palatine. The room was poor - hard bed, no amenities, the shower dripped, and because of the dripping shower the room smelled like moss and/or sewage.

Close to all the Ancient Sites
The hotel is presently going under renovations so when u walk up to the entrance takes a while to realize that you have to enter through Hotel de Rome. (there is a small sign posted). The room was great, nice comfortable bed, window with great view, mini bar and a tv. It would have been better if there was at least ONE channel that was in English. The bathroom on the other hand was hit and miss, plenty of room until you get in the shower. Enough room to stand in one spot and turn and occassionally hit the shower curtain and its not like i'm big boned. I booked the hotel as they said free in room wifi. This was non existent. Infact i only had access in the lobby and that was spotty at best, had to resort to any of the two local mcdonalds. I was travelling alone so internet connection made the stay sour.
