Your own slice of Outer Banks paradise awaits at this family- and dog-friendly home, just minutes from the beach. With an unbeatable central location, you can step out the front door and walk to several nearby restaurants, or hop in the car for a quick drive north to Jockey’s Ridge State Park or the Wright Brothers National Memorial, both about 30 miles away. Head south along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, a little over 20 miles away, with miles of glorious beach along the way. There are lots of watersport opportunities nearby as well.

At home, start the day with coffee and a glorious sunrise view from the top-level observation deck, then head downstairs to the swing on the screened porch for some quiet time before the day gets started. Multiple decks on each level, plus a large yard ideal for the kids and family dog to play, round out your outdoor space.

Inside, you’ll find two levels of living space with comfortable coastal decor and plenty of room to spread out. The recently updated main living area features new flooring, new furniture, and a modern, well-equipped kitchen, with a full suite of stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, lots of cabinet space, and all the cookware you'll need to turn out family feasts - or just snacks for the beach. Grab a bite at the window-front dining tables on either level, then slip into your swimsuit and head for the beach.

When you return, rinse off the sand in the outdoor shower and toss the day’s clothes in the washer/dryer for a quick refresh. If you’ve spent the day fishing, a convenient fish-cleaning table on the patio makes meal prep a breeze. Spend downtime at home in the comfy living room or den upstairs, with entertainment options including four TVs, free WiFi and cable, board games, and a tabletop retro arcade game machine featuring favorites like Donkey Kong and Pac-Man. Three well-appointed bedrooms promise a restful night’s sleep, but not before one more visit to the observation deck for a nighttime toast under the stars to booking the perfect OBX retreat.

Christmas stay
We definitely enjoyed the property. Unfortunately, we didn't receive the door code prior to arrival. It took almost an hour to gain access. The location and proximity to the beach were amazing. The downside was that there wasn't enough toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, dish washer detergent. Check in and check out times are difficult. And the cleaners showed up an hour and a half earlier than check out. Communication with Vacasa has been challenging.

This was a great home within a short walking distance to the beach. With access to the local pool made our stay much more enjoyable as the winds were hard and ocean swimming was not great. Very quiet neighborhood with ice cream at the end of the street. Tourist attractions were within an hour so it was a great stay.

Spring Break 2023
What a beautiful house! Perfect for the kids and dog. We loved that there was enough room for everyone, including the extra seating area with the arcade game! Super clean and easy to access. Close to the beach, a short drive to the Salvo day use beach, and close to both Body Island Lighthouse and Hatteras Lighthouse. Couldn't asked for a more perfect way to spend Spring Break!

Electrical hazard, cockroaches, and bad communication
Upon arriving the first night, there were two cockroaches on the floor (still alive, but barely), and I discovered a *loose* electrical outlet at the top of the stairs that even had no cover on it! I’m glad I found it before my 2-year old stuck his fingers in there. I don’t expect someone else’s house to be baby-proofed, but I do expect normal safety precautions. There was no ‘welcome’ email or paper in the house, so we didn’t know anything about the property, the Wi-Fi password, etc. All we knew was the key code to get in. There were some things found on the carpets…makes you wonder how well the cleaning staff vacuumed. Vacasa also left a huge plastic bin of used linens from the previous guests in the front yard right by the stairs where you first walk in. It sat there for two days until someone finally picked it up. Definitely a less-than-par experience.

Nice
We enjoyed our stay and there were a lot of nice things! Just a few things, it's not small child friendly, our toddler is mostly proficient with the stairs which was definately helpful. On the upper decks there is a star burst pattern on the porch railings that made me too nervous to even let the kids out on since they could easily slip through. The only other thing I would say is the beds aren't too comfy. The convinience to the beach was great!

Great place to enjoy Waves, NC area
This was an older place, great welcome atmosphere for pets. It did not have the room( floorspace) that the pics appeared to show, but it is hard to gauge that in photos sometimes. Great beach and beach access. The owner was nice to communicate with. Hatteras Realty great to deal with. We looked like we might have a problem initially with check-in b/c we cannot access to a mobile number pad info at the least minute for trips, we need to have this info a little before-hand b/c we do all of our electronic communications with a laptop, but Hatteras realty was able to give us a lobby check-in option go get our passcode that we could access upon arrival as well as to collect our linens and towels then. That was nice. It does look like this owner has multiple other properties that she manages, but she did get back in touch, and ultimately I was the one who made sure with Hatteras Realty that I could get in with not having a last-minute passcode ( to a mobile device option). That could have been a problem without a 2nd party Realty to deal with to allow access to that option. The coffee maker was really old, needs to be replaced, the carpeting was older, but the other floors felt pretty good and swept up well. The decks all around the house are really nice to enjoy the breezes from the beach when you come back and the crow's nest up top is really a neat one on this cottage. The bathroom upstairs looks like it just got a paint job, but the shower does not give you room to change your mind! The hot water was very good in this cottage and we ended up using the outside shower some. The laundry there on site is always nice for these trips and the parking area under the place is really nice. The mattress pads, upon arrival, were not in clean condition- I ran them thru the dryer, and that meant we were really late getting to bed that first night- had to re-stick these on the mattress in the upstairs bedroom. Blankets need washing too, not all of them but at least one. Quilt for upstairs bedroom was nice and the realty company had washed the comforter for us in downstairs bedroom before we came. All in all needs some updates- that wallpaper in the upstairs hallway and bedroom is pretty crusty! but it is and was a great cottage for us with our pets to stay in for the week in Waves.

Wonderful and relaxing
This property was just as described, a short walk to the beach. We were in Waves to attend a family member's wedding and even though we were experiencing the rain and high surf from 2 hurricanes we had a great time. The house was beautiful, roomy and comfortable.

In need of a renovation
The best thing about this property was the AC worked. The interior is in need of a serious update. The craftsmanship of the work in the past is atrocious. There is a lot of room for improvement. Go further south to Ocean Isle and get more for your money.

Nice property, terrible management
The property was great - not too fancy, but comfortable and had everything we needed. However, the service and management of this property through VRBO / Hatteras was appalling. We travel a lot (4-5 times a year usually) so have a lot of experience with agents. Even considering COVID, this was terrible management. Take the check-in - it was a very late check in compared to any hotel or other provider. We were supposed to get the code to the house by email at promptly 5pm, but it never arrived. We'd had a long drive to get to the house and everyone needed the bathroom. At about 5.15pm I called the "emergency" line and the woman told me someone would get back to me within 10 minutes. About 15 minutes later a lady called me back - she wasn't keen to give me the code over the phone even though I answered her questions and the phone number corresponded to the booking. However, when I explained I had kids who desperately needed the bathroom, she relented and gave it to me. Finally, at 6.15pm the code for the house arrived in my email box! Further, only a minimum of items were provided like toilet paper, dishwashing detergent and other such items. We were staying for 8 nights! When I called housekeeping, there was no answer, I had to leave a message and no one got back to me. I emailed them that night - no response. I called again the next day and finally got some one who told us that we have to buy these items ourselves - they only stock enough for a few days. So someone who books the house for 3 nights doesn't need to buy anything, but if you book for longer, you are disadvantaged. I would have thought the longer the stay, the more advantaged you should be! Contrast this with the other accommodation we stayed in for week 2 - check in at 2pm with a code given to us by message in the morning, large stock of toilet paper, and every possible cleaning item, plus condiments in the kitchen etc. It's purely bad service by Hatteras Realty. The cleaning was reasonable, but I did find a fingernail on the kitchen floor on the first evening, which was a bit off-putting. We also had to make our own beds with linen from a box - I've never, ever have had to do this before!. I actually feel sorry for the owners of this place, using VRBO as their managers. We will not be booking through VRBO again when there are so many other good options.

Horrible Sleepless nights
The property was clean, but the bedding needs to be updated. All four beds need to be updated at this home. My entire family commented on the poor quality of mattresses in all three bedrooms. The blinds and curtains are also in need of updating. The curtains were White and so thin in the upstairs bedroom that all street lights and morning sun shown through all day and night. We left a day early due to the poor sleeping conditions. I will definitely never book this home again.

Dune your thing was great
We had a great time at ‘Dune your thing’. Pros: Very short walk to beach and drive to the Salvo day use area on the sound side. Affordable. Great location. Had more kitchen supplies, dishes / glasses / utensils / blender, then anticipated. Lots of counter space. Second floor had dorm size refrigerator which was a bonus. Loved the deck space we just were not able to utilize due to excessive heat/humidity. Parking for 3 cars (tight but doable). Cons: first level floor not clean, under the living room chairs we had dust bunnies when we arrived. We were able to clean these up easily with broom and dust pan that’s was provided. Unable to adjust thermostat, we were under a heat advisory while we were there and the nights were a little warm despite ac. We never called to have it checked because of the outside temperature and it’s understandable to limit control of thermostat but both levels had same issues. Liked the grill but would have been nicer if it was in the backyard and not along side the driveway. Despite the cons, we would definitely stay there again!

Older but well kept.
It was an overall lovely stay. Very close to the beach with all the necessities. However it lost points with only one of the TV's currently working and the decking wasn't safe for my toddler... some rusty nail areas on the screened in porch and the fan railing made it easy for a child to fall through. However she was never unsupervised so it was workable. Also the upstairs couches were not comfortable, which is where the working TV was.We understand that some of the issues could have been from the hurricane and the others due to age/use of the home. Overall it was a 4 star stay.

Excellent House and Great Value
I came down here to kitesurf. I've stayed in many places in OBX over the years, and this rates as one of the top - extremely well-kept, modern, not-dated, TV and cable in every room, WiFi, and a GRILL! The location is perfectly centralized. It's a short walk to the beach, bay, and to a few of the stores (Dollar General, pizza place, and the deli/supermarket). Easy to drive to kiting locations. You don't need much else. I would stay here again and recommend the house to my friends.
