Even nicer than what I expected - cabin was well kept and clean...loved the location and all the extras that came along with the cabin...will definitely be back this summer..!
Life has been extremely busy and painful this year. Getting away to the mountains and having a place to just rest, relax, and have fun with family was wonderful. This was our second time to stay here and we do plan on coming back!
This place is right on the lake! Great place for kayaking or just lounging on the porch! Very clean and comfortable! Good fishing too! Close to the dragon, Joyce Kilmer memorial forest, yellow creek falls, Fontana and Cheoah Dam! We loved it and would definitely stay again!
Good- Great view of Lake from Upper Deck, Kayaks provided and good lake Access, Great star gazing, AC works great
Bad & The Ugly- House is surrounded by 3 abandoned properties, old RV, a junky lot and a dilapidated "Barge" in the water, the outside of the property needs some TLC, dish washing and paper supplies were sparse
This house is a bit outdated but super super clean and very comfy. The location is very private feeling and located in a culdesac shared only with an abandoned house. It has direct lake access and the kayaks were newish and awesome! We loved our stay but unfortunately discovered a badly injured stray kitten and had to leave in a hurry to seek help for it. It set a sad tone to our otherwise great stay and we had to leave some things behind due to the sense of urgency. I Do Highly recommend this little lake gem though! Thanks Donna for such a cozy stay and let us know how you liked our hot sauce we left for you! we make it here in Asheville! -
This is a cozy cottage with some views of the lake, but there are a couple of other houses between the cottage and the lake. The highway is very close and the location is between the Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway, two motorcycle bucket list roads, so the noise is a regular part of the atmosphere. Some of the nearby properties have messy yards that the owner probably cannot help. There were some nice touches to items furnished for comfort, but also some sparseness.. For example, only two dinner plates, only salad forks that were smaller than usual to eat with, no can opener, the grate that holds the charcoal in the grill is missing and there are no appropriate tools for grilling or lighter to light the charcoal. The property could use some maintenance such as power washing the porch and deck and washing of the windows. It's definitely an older structure, but considering the cost of other houses in the area, this place gives good value for the price. With a few additions and a little elbow grease, it could be awesome.
Do you love the smell of marijuana in the morning? Boy do I have the property for you!
Come get away in the rustic mountains of Western North Carolina where the weeds are waist high! The amenities include:
A terrible gravel driveway that’s half washed out in a sketchy cutback curve. You probably will not be able to make if you don’t own an SUV or Truck.
The rustic smell of weed that smacks you in the face the second you open the door.
Love no cell service and promised Wi-Fi when, surprise, there is no Wi-Fi!
Windows with broken screens on most of the windows, if they have a screen at all, to let out all the weed smell and let in all the insects you can imagine.
A fully functioning window A/C unit complete with mold.
A view to die for of overgrown trees, and an abandoned house blocking the lake.
Lake access through someone else’s property.
Don’t forget about the fresh green weeds growing at least waist high all around the property, including the back yard!
Ants and various other insects roaming both inside and out.
A back yard full of weeds, an unkept retaining wall of rocks perfectly suited for a family of snakes!
It’s pet friendly! The backyard is fully fenced in with chairs or rocks patching up the holes and a single piece of 1x12” board to keep your pet from escaping.
I promise you you’ll leave it better than you found it! You’ll pay for rustic and you’ll get unkept.
Happy travels! :D

Unfortunately there were security issues and the host can be incredibly rude and unreasonable
We stayed two nights after our wedding at a local venue. We didn't arrive the first night until 4 a.m. and left for the day to see family at 11 the next morning. We didn't get back to the rental until after midnight the second night and were so exhausted that we went to bed immediately and slept until about 30 minutes before checkout the next morning. At some point an unsecured kayak was stolen from the rental property. This caused us concern bc we had left our things in the rental while we were gone. The host immediately blamed us, and even after we told her that we hadn't used or even seen the kayaks and hadn't been on the property the majority of the time we had it rented she continued to accuse us of stealing the kayak. After further discussion she changed her mind and said the new neighbors probably took it, but we had to pay for a new kayak bc we were staying when it disappeared. Luckily VRBO assured us that we couldn't just be charged for it and relieved that concern.
Bottom line while the house was sufficiently clean and comfortable it's not worth the risk of having a problem with the rental and dealing with an unreasonable host who has no regard for the facts. In addition there's reason for concern about safety bc there were no security cameras and no safety measures in place to prevent theft and evidently no insurance to pay for loss or damage.
We had an awesome time at the lake house! The dogs loved roaming around the fire pit while we made smores with hot chocolate!!!! Close to everything but far enough to enjoy the peace and quiet!!!
It was a quick & easy process of checking in & out. My husband & I just came with our Harley in tow to conquer the Dragon, which we did several times! It was awesome! We also enjoyed the scenery, fishing at the nearby lake & took advantage of the kayaks provided with the property.
Dog-friendly, easy lake access and kayaks, clean space, large kitchen, nice deck/porch. cool A/C. Internet is fairly slow but we were able to stream TV shows adequately. We had a nice stay and would return.
