Wanted to just get away for the weekend and couldn't have picked a better place. Cozy and fantastic people running it. Can't wait to go back and have already told several friends who will probably go in the future.
If you’re wondering if you should book this place, the answer is yes!!!!
Absolutely amazing first experience with Dave and Shannon and I can’t wait to stay here again. The room was super clean, neat, cozy, and a very comfortable bed. We stayed in the Jefferson, I saw reviews before that said there wasn’t enough hot water to use the jet tub, if that was ever a problem it’s certainly fixed now! Plenty of very hot water to fill the tub and Shannon leaves little aromatherapy packets to throw in which smelled so nice.
Best part for sure as others have said, is the breakfast. If you miss this you will be sorely missing out. I was just amazed. All the brunches in cities and other countries I’ve been to stood no chance against Dave’s breakfast feast fit for royalty. 10/10!!
Proprietors are lovely. The food is great. My only complaint is that the whirlpool bathtub was a wash. Not enough hot water and the plug was very hard to keep down.
We enjoyed the cross-cultural experience of Mountain Harbor. Our room, the Jefferson, was expansive and tastefully decorated. This is Americana, it is not stuffy or formal, it's just plain folks: AT hikers, couples, and good food. We went for the cool mountain air and relaxation and we were not disappointed. Great jump off point for day hikers with the shuttle service. A hike of 15 downhill miles from Carver's Gap make for a day trip for the fit or an overnighter for those who take their time and wish to pack it in and spend a night on the trail.
Shannon keeps the animals, hostel overnighters, and bnb guests all happy. Three great cooks prepare a cornucopia of breakfast delights. David makes short order evening meals in the food/snack truck. 15 minutes by car to Banner Elk or Elizabethton for whatever else you want.
Bring a book and sit on the porch with Mookie.
