This was a cute cottage nestled on Roan Mountain. Very clean and peaceful. The owner had sweet little surprises for her guests like a bottle of wine and fresh cream in the fridge for your coffee. She quickly responded to any inquiry we had. Just an overall relaxing experience.

Sweetest cottage in Roan Mountain!
This is our second stay at Cloudland Cottage, and we plan to return next June for another visit. Ann is an exceptional host and she makes sure to provide for her guests' comfort. Extra blankets, snacks, and a fire in the woodburning stove were a great beginning to our Roan Mountain getaway! The cottage is obviously loved and cared for, neat as a pin and outfitted with everything you might need for a visit. Thank you so much, Ann, we feel like we are family! See you soon!

Sweet cottage in beautiful location
Everything was great -- home away from home, and not too hard to find. The rushing creek across the road and views all around were high points.

Perfect getaway for small family
Loved this cozy, warm, sweet, creative, colorful place! Thanks for the attention to detail. Very easy for our family with 2 kids (ages 10 and almost-5) to kick back and rest between long day hikes on the AT and other favorites of ours in the area.

Cute and cozy
This is a great little cottage for relaxation and to get away from the city rush. The cottage is very light with windows that one can open for fresh air in every room. It is well stocked for cooking should you desire to do so. The rocking chair porch is always cool and shady. No matter how hot the day, one can still rock away in the cool of the porch. The side porch is a great place to sit in the evenings and watch birds and the neighbor’s cattle grazing. Ann, the cottage owner, is just wonderful to rent from. She responds almost immediately and her brother resides on the road above the cottage as well so they are there should one need them. The cottage was clean and is as the photos show.

Cloudland Cottage was exactly as described. The decor and setting were exactly what we hoped for.
My wife and I stayed for four nights and found Ann’s charming cottage in a beautiful setting with a roaring brook across the road and beautiful trees turning color for fall. We also found everything we needed and more inside and a picture window with a million dollar view across a pasture with wooded hills beyond. Morning views through that window left little doubt about the name “Cloudland.” This was a perfect place to walk peaceful country roads and explore Roan Mountain above and the state park below. At night with clear skies from the side porch we saw more stars and constellations than we had been able to see in years. We even saw a shooting star together. Thank you, Ann, for sharing your lovely mountain home with us.

Would move there today!
Loved the house loved the view loved the village. Will be going back! Only suggestion I have is maybe have some battery operated candles available. It stormed while I was there and electricity flickered several times. Candles would have been reassuring. Flashlights were good, candles would be better. Thanks for loaning me your home and it was a wonderful experience.

Wonderful time of peace and refuge from life's worries.
Roan mountain and its community will forever stay in my heart. Anne was the sweetest and most accommodating person for my family and I who were evacuating from hurricane Irma. She was super understanding and generous. She gave us an email with all the information we would possibly need to make our stay as we had hoped. She was readily available to answer the information I had overlooked in her email. This place is best enjoyed staying locally, however there is so much that can be seen if you have the need to explore in your car. Thanks again Anne for sharing your sweet and artistic home with us.

A nice stay, great hostess
The area was lovely and the weather was great. We were comfortable enough to sleep with our windows open, and for the most part (excepting the neighbor donkey and occasional dog bark)it was good, quiet sleeping. The creek is right across the street, and we saw many deer in the area. The cottage is wonderfully decorated and Annie is a terrific hostess with much information about area activities and restaurants, and warnings about access to certain items. The rooms are much smaller in real life than the lovely photos on the website. I was disappointed in the appearance of the outside of the home. The photos were clearly taken at another time, maybe another decade. Steps and rocks were green, and the porch and deck were rather weather-worn, and the siding could use a pressure-wash. The inside smelled like a damp, old house, which I realize it is. It took a full day of having the house open (on a sunny day) for me to tolerate it. My husband and daughter are less sensitive and didn't have an issue with it. There were quite a few spiders and webs and cobwebs. However, the bathroom and kitchen and linens were spotless. The dressers and cabinets and closet in the bedroom had clothes and things in them, so we lived out of our bag. The queen bed was very comfortable. My 69" daughter said the day bed was rather uncomfortable; we didn't use the sleeper sofa.

An eclectic retreat!
We were pleasantly surprised upon our arrival to this quaint little home. It's obvious that it has been lovingly decorated and furnished with the visitor in mind. We were so inspired by the colors and decor that we bought a road sign from the antique store to add to our chicken coop! And we've even talked about painting our home in brighter colors!! We truly felt at home here and are trying to figure out when we can get back (asap)!! :) The only, and I truly mean only, downside was the hound dogs barking almost constantly while we were there. Not much can be done about that but it was a slight distraction. Nothing to keep us from returning!! We were truly blessed to have found this little gem!!

Charming, comfortable, relaxing cottage with everything you need!
Cloudland Cottage is a personality-filled retreat with a farmhouse feel in a great location. It is just outside Roan Mountain State Park - which is on the base of Roan Mountain. Once you leave the State Park to head up Roan Mountain itself towards Carver's Gap, Roan Mountain High Knob and High Bluff, the Rhododendron Gardens, and the Appalachian Trial, this cottage is nestled up a holler. The cottage is also close to the Town of Roan Mountain, which is on the opposite side of the State Park. It's a fantastic location to experience all of those places and more. There is great walking around the cottage itself along the small local roads. They are not busy, so we walked around and enjoyed views of the mountains, beautiful pastures, farms, a large bustling creek right in front of the cottage, and plenty of wildflowers. My mom and I booked on short notice and stayed 2 nights. Ann was a fantastic host & kept in touch until we got there. She also let us know of free music going on in the State Park, which was great because we did not have set evening plans. She greeted us on arrival to show us around, and had a welcome basket & bottle of wine for us to enjoy. The house was more than adequate for the two of us. Our stay was short and we did not spend much time in the cottage itself. However when we were there, we enjoyed sitting on the front porch and out on the deck (which had a gorgeous mountain view). The house was fully furnished and stocked with all kitchenware. We appreciated not having to eat out every meal, and the ease of cooking our own breakfast and dinner. We did eat out one night at the local pizza joint, Smoky Mountain Bakers. It was delicious! Ann had us all set with extra blankets, pillows, towels, toiletries, walking sticks, and more. There was also Wi-fi so we were able to stay connected (when we chose to do so). Overall, it was a wonderful and peaceful place to come back to after two long days of hiking, without worry of "do we have everything we need?". We very much savored our time there and would recommend this accommodation to others. We hope to return!

Relaxing and amazing
We spent a long weekend and the house was just wonderful. Wish that we'd had more time to enjoy the peaceful setting. Sleeping in the comfy bed while listening to the murmur of the babbling creek was something else. It was a soul soothing and idyllic setting. No traffic noise, no noise at all! Beautifully and artistically furnished. Ann went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. It was hard to leave this place. We will definitely be back for another stay and I can't wait! <3

Very nice
Great view from large living room window. The fall colors are wonderful. It was quite cool & we used the wood stove 2 evenings. Thanks for the wood. Kitchen and pantry were well supplied. We had brought food to cook for our meals, and I caution others to do the same unless you want to drive a long way to a grocery. Local grocers have essentials only and are not open on Sunday. Close to some great hiking. Very pleasant cottage with plenty of room fo a couple. We would like to come back sometime.

charming immaculate mountain cottage
We've been coming to the Roan for the last 20 years. We loved the seclusion this adorable cottage offered. Every room was decorated with the host's artistic touch. The neighboring donkey added an amusing touch. We enjoyed his occasional braying. We watched the beautiful horse viewed out the picture window. Well done.

Beautiful cottage but found dead & live insects, dust & hair balls, spider webs, filthy window sills
A message I sent to Ann the owner, after she had made false accusations of smoking and incense use indoors in order to get out of refunding my damage deposit; From Ann- You broke 2 house rules listed on my VRBO site which stated NO SMOKING & NO INCENSE. We found cigarettes, incense & the empty cologne bottle used to mask the smell. I have photos. My house reeked & was a mess. You drank my personal wine & it is impossible to believe 2 women could use 24 towels or washcloths in less than 24 hours. You will receive no refund of any kind. I have talked extensively with VEBO & filed a complaint. Ann, regarding your outrageous accusations as to the condition of your rental property at Cloudland Cottage, Roan Mtn. Tennessee, on our check out date of 9-9-16. I can absolutely tell you that all smoking done by my daughter was outside the house. I am a congestive heart patient, non smoker and could never physically tolerate smoke of cigarettes or incense in a dwelling that I am staying. We cleaned the house throughly the morning of the check out, I took true photos of everything, every room, including arrival and departure photos, insects, alive and dead, dust and dust balls, filthy windowsills and stained mattress cover. I was so careful and even thoughtful with clean up to the point of putting the used towels in the washer inside a pillow sheet so the housekeeper would not have to so much as carry them. We washed the dishes and put them away, we wiped down all the countertops and sinks. There were no rules as to how many towels and wash cloths were allowed to be used. You generously left a gift basket with a bottle of wine and snacks. There was opened bottle of wine in the fridge, which perhaps was consumed mistakenly when your gift wine was opened and chilled. Your ad invited your guests to the use of unnamed amenities. No new bottle of your personal wine was ever opened. Your comments on the website are just unbelievable and a shock, as well as complete untruth. Whoever gave this false information about the house left filthy and reeking of smoke is absolutely lying. My photos before, during and at check out are ALL time stamped. I intend to compile and send to the rental agency, a letter with proof of photos addressing these outrageous lies with which your name is attached. I am a person who prides myself of integrity and respect for others and their property. I spoke with you each and every text or call with kindness and consideration...

Wonderful cottage in a great location!
We have been using VRBO for over 15 years and I have to say, this cottage is the best of them all! Ann was so wonderful with communication before and during our stay. Her welcome basket in the kitchen was a welcome surprise after our long drive. The entire cottage was spotless and so beautifully decorated. We enjoyed using the fire pit, going for walks around the quiet neighborhood, and sitting on the rocking chair porch. This cottage is very close to Roan Mountain State Park and the Appalachian Trail, and Banner Elk, Sugar Mountain, and Grandfather Mountain are not too far away. We definitely plan to return again soon!

Lovely bright cottage in the mountains
We had a lovely stopover enroute from Myrtle Beach to Toronto. Owner was real helpful and everything was as described. Very relaxing environment and we all had a good night's sleep. Used our GPS to get there and it took us on a very scenic drive to get there so make sure you look at the easiest way to get there.
