Within walking distance of the holiday cottage there are two pubs, The Red Lion, a very traditional Yorkshire Dales pub, with a true Yorkshire Landlady who is a fountain of knowledge on the local area. Up the road, about 10 minutes’ walk is the CB Inn, renowned for its locally sourced food, extensive wine and gin lists and various real ales.
Reeth is only a short 3-mile drive away with several amenities such as three pubs (all dog friendly) serving proper pub grub. The Burgoyne Hotel with bar and restaurant if you are looking for that extra special meal. There are also several cafes, and ice cream parlour, two bakeries, gift shops, a Post Office, the Swaledale Museum and arts and crafts centre.
There is an abundance of walks and cycle routes in the area, many of which are straight from the door including lower-level walks along the Arkle Beck or more challenging hikes up Calver Hill or Fremington Edge.
The location of the cottage is great for exploring the area and is within easy reach of Barnard Castle with its bustling town centre, eateries and specialist shops. Richmond and Leyburn are about 30 minutes’ drive with further pubs, eateries, butchers, and supermarkets.
