Bovis Cottage, Southwold

Bovis Cottage is a Grade II listed hideaway tucked away just off the high street in Southwold is a wonderful place for a family stay, or a romantic getaway for a couple. Once part of a farm, this terraced cottage retains a number of original features such as the spiral staircases.

Bovis Cottage comprises of an open-plan living and dining area at the front of the cottage, with the kitchen at the back. The bathroom is located off the utility area downstairs and offers a bath with shower over, wash basin and WC. A lovely garden room located at the back of the house enjoys afternoon sunlight.

The cottage has a number of features which date back to when it was built. A spiral staircase leads up to the master bedroom. Hosting a double bed, this bedroom offers plenty of storage space and features a window looking out onto Barnaby Green. A further spiral staircase leads to the bedroom two in the eaves of the second floor. With twin single beds and storage on the landing, this quirky space makes a charming, cosy room for children.

Outside, there is an enclosed rear garden with seating. There is parking to the side along Spinner's Lane but this is not designated for Bovis Cottage. Further parking is available on the common. The rear garden can be accessed via a right of way through two other gardens from Spinner's Lane but there is no right of way past Bovis Cottage and the rear garden is enclosed. Spinner's Lane has direct access out onto the common and down to the harbour.

Short winter break
Cosy cottage at the top of Southwold High St & yards from the Common and walks to the Harbour & Walberswick.

Good location
Comfortable property. Well equipped. The only problem for 'oldies' is the long trek to the bathroom in the middle of the night. But good central location.

Perfect cottage
We were delighted with this very quaint little cottage. It had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. We parked the car on Saturday and there it stayed for the week, as we found so much to do around us. Lovely walks, high street shops, pubs and restaurants. Rest assured we will be back.

Close to heart of village
Bovis cottage was convenient for all amenities.and had everything you need for a self catering stay. Very convenient for a bus as just a minute across the road. Stairs could prove difficult for some people as are narrow with a tight corner.

Great cottage
On the whole our experience was good ,great location, cottage well equipped. Thought back garden needed some attention. Our puppy managed to get through a hole in fence .Few cleanness issues to start with.xx But loved our stay thank you

A cute little cottage!
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Bovis and would consider returning. On the Plus side, we found the double bed very comfortable and had some very good nights' sleep. The location is excellent, being just off the High Street, so it's easy to walk just about everywhere. On the Down side, I am not making a complaint, let's just call these some observations. As HPB Bondholders, we are used to HPB's very high standards of cleanliness, which Bovis doesn't quite meet. There were crumbs on the kitchen worktop, a noticeable layer of dust on the shelves of the bathroom cabinet, and a few cobwebs here and there. There were two cracked panes of glass in the double bedroom window and one cracked pane in the kitchen window. These are matters which could be attended to. We were led to believe there was an allocated parking space in Spinners Lane. Our neighbour at no. 15 was very helpful in pointing out where our parking space was, but this seems to be disputed by some Spinners Lane residents. That ought to be resolved.

Lovely cottage great location
Beautiful little cottage, perfect for a small family. Very clean, excellent customer service. Best location in southwold. The staircase is very steep for older or very young people.

Bovis Cottage
We enjoyed the quirkiness of the cottage, which might not appeal to everybody. There was plenty of room for 2 of us but a larger party might find the small rooms a bit of a squeeze and a dishwasher might be a bonus for them. However the cottage is in an excellent location for shops and restaurants and accessing footpaths, and the beach was not far away. A most enjoyable stay.

Bovis very good.
Bovis was great..only fault was the double bed is very uncomfortable, and as its the item you need the most and spend most time in it could be better. Also cupboards in the kitchen are in a dangerous place.Being someone who has permanent double vision through a light bang on the head I feel quite strongly about this..otherwise cottage is excellent and very good value for money.very clean and tidy.Thank you. Location Excellent.

Pleasant week at Bovis
Spent a week in May at Bovis cottage 3 adults and a cocker spaniel. We have stayed here before so knew what to expect. The location is the reason we stayed here right on the common with lovely walks to the harbour and Walberswick. It is also handy to stroll into town. The accommodation is clean and comfortable however you need to be mobile to access the smaller bedroom as the stairs are very steep. Garden out front and back so if you get sun ( which we didn’t) you can enjoy a sit outdoors.

Fabulous Find
A fab little find, 30 seconds from main street. That said very quiet and peaceful. A cosy well equipped cottage that would suits all, small family or a couple of adults. Great places to eat and the beach is beautiful. We had my 18 month old grandaughter with us who had whale of a time, the owners were also very good and replaced a high chair at very short notice for us. Definately will be returning 10/10 from these happy holidayers!

Our stay at Southwold
we've always loved Southwold but some of the holiday lets don't allow dogs and some are very over priced. We've stayed once before in a rental and also in the two hotels. These stays were good but compared to our stay at Bovis Cottage they just don't compare in any way. Bovis Cottage accepted one dog but we had two. But when I explained one was big the other small the owners said OK! So we arrived for a 10 day stay. We couldn't have been better pleased. The first 2 days our grown up sons, aged 20 and 23 were with us as well. So 4 adults and 2 dogs in the cottage at night! There was bags of room it was great. The cottage itself is very good. The location even better. You are situated at the start of the High Street. so all of what is going on is at your door step. We could walk down the High Street and shops, go to the pier and the sae front. Or we could turn left and go across the common for a nice walk. Or turn right and make our way down to the harbour for fresh sea food, fish and more. We had a great time at a cottage that couldn't be better placed for a great break. I would recommend for a family as well as its a great big garden front and back. Only problem one toilet. but you get used to that. (9 out of 10, 10 out of 10 if there was another loo!).

our Hot week in Southwold
Our stay was wonderful, we picked the hottest week of the year and it was great to be by the sea at this time. We loved the cottage position as it was so close to the centre. My only criticism would be that the cottage could do with a new shower.

Bovis Cottage
Cottage was comfortable.Bathroom being at the end of a long hallway downstairs wasn't great. Also l think a dishwasher would be a good bonus.
