This area of Southern England has the most beautiful countryside and provides many walking, cycling and picnic opportunities. Visit the National Trust site of Broadwoods Tower on Box Hill, with stunning panoramic views, or the ruins of Reigate Castle, which has a network of tunnels below which are believed to be Europes first road tunnel. Box Hill is only 10 minutes from the property and is owned by the National Trust. It’s a summit of the North Downs overlooking the River Mole and gets its name from the ancient box woodland found on its slopes. Box Hill is a cyclists’ paradise, with amazing routes and views and there’s even a café and a place to rent bikes.
Other popular places of interest include Chessington World of Adventures, Thorpe Park, Hever Castle in Chartwell, Churchill’s favourite former home, or many lovely homes and gardens including Standen, Penshurst Place, Wakehurst and Borde Hill, as well as Chiddingstone Castle and Sheffield Park. The British Wildlife Centre, Godstone Farm, Staffhurst Wood Nature Reserve, Ashdown Forest and The Llama Park are within easy reach, and the spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells and the Bluebell Steam Railway are a short drive away. Brighton and the south coast are less than an hour away, and there are local train stations with services to London for further sightseeing.
