Havelland offers many opportunities for exploration - whether on the water, in the air, by bike or on foot.
There are numerous excursions to the surrounding area via the Havelland cycle path. The historic city center of Rathenow and the newly designed city center are also worth seeing.
West Havelland is also known as an internationally important resting place for migratory birds and a habitat for many endangered animal and plant species. Waders and waterfowl, beavers and otters, sea eagles and red kites can be found here as well as the last great bustards of Germany. The picturesque mix of small Brandenburg villages, green meadows, forests and lakes and the all-connecting Havel with its many tributaries characterize the landscape. The blue-green play of colors, the endless expanse and the silence enchant guests and residents alike.
The unique dark night sky over West Havelland is less well known. The region is sparsely populated and so the comparatively low light pollution allows a clear view of a magnificent starry sky. It is hard to believe that the Milky Way can be seen in full glory in the sky in the immediate vicinity of Berlin.
The International Dark Sky Association (IDA) recognized the Westhavelland Nature Park as the first star park in Germany in February 2014. The administration and the municipalities of the nature park have set themselves the goal of preserving the natural nightly landscape with environmentally compatible and demand-oriented lighting and thus protecting the nightly living space.
