Wonderful
The cabin was spotlessly clean. It smelled clean and pleasant upon entering. Even though the cabins are next to each other, there is space for privacy. The landscaping is beautiful. Convenient location. The Host was friendly and responsive. The craftsmanship of the cabin was impressive!

Great location
This was a beautiful cabin in a perfect location. We loved how it was close to a lot of attractions. The road up to the cabin was narrow and had sharp turns but this was all written in the description when booking. The host was great with checking in with us to see if we needed anything. Overall a great experience.

Unsafe wasp overun/owners unresponsive!
The property was beautiful. The cabins clean and well decorated. Unfortunately the cabin (inside and out) were overrun with wasps. Our first night (we arrived late) had a single live wasp we found on the dinner table. The second day when we returned after a days sight seeing - we found eight (8) wasps flying in the cabin. We were worried about getting stung - especially our 8 year old grandson. The owners were unable to control/correct the situation - although they tried. They did not have any other units (ours was the most secluded) and we were forced to rent a hotel room in town. The owners refused to refund the second night of our stay and they gave us a can of wasp stay and wished us "good luck, we dont control insects" - they refused to take responsibility for an unsafe environment for a property they own. They just did not care - it was the last week of their rental season, and it showed - very poor service - worst we have had in decades of annual VRBO rentals in many states - beware. I am sure they would not have stayed and risked their kids/grandkids getting stung.

Everything was great cabin wise. The only thing i would change would be an area where familes could gather. We used between 2 cabins for my family and extended family to hang out and talk after a day of site seeing.

Perfect passing through stay!
My husband and I were headed west for our honeymoon and needed somewhere to stay for the night while we saw Mount Rushmore! This cabin was perfect! It has nice privacy off the road and in a great spot centrally located with everything in the area! It was so CLEAN! We have never done a VRBO before but we decided to try it out and will definitely be doing it again! It was homey and spacious and well taken care of and the hosts were so accommodating, she let us check in early (without us asking), was able to recommend places for dinner in the area, and made sure we were taken care of the whole time. If you are heading through town, I would recommend this little cabin over and over again! It was such a nice experience!

If I could give 6 stars, I would...
SUPER clean (and I am really picky about this!), awesome location, amazing beds, every single one! The kitchen is minimally stocked, but we were able to make all the meals we wanted and Jenn (the owner) offered to get any other items we needed to cook our meals. Such an ideal spot to visit all the great SD adventures! Our kids had a blast. The last day, our flight got cancelled and we almost had to stay an extra night. Not only was Jenn responsive and willing to let us stay an extra, unplanned night, but she and her husband even offered to pick us up from the airport since rental cars were out of stock. (!) I have learned in life that character, integrity, and kindness show up not only in the big things but the small things as well. These are the kind of people I want to trust with my money, with our treasured memories! We will look forward to staying here again.

Family fun in the Black Hills
Our family enjoyed Big Mountain Cabins very much. They're in a great location, they're well maintained and the cabin was impeccably clean upon our arrival. The owners were great to work with and quick to respond to our questions. Cabin #5 was perfect for our family getaway to the Black Hills. I loved that it was just a bit closer to all of the things we wanted to do than a stay in Rapid City (proper) would have been. It's so close to Mt. Rushmore that the "faces" became a fun landmark to chart our travels. After visiting the Rushmore memorial site properly on Day 1, we drove by them at least once a day each day thereafter. The cabin was only about a 10 minute drive (if that) from Mt. Rushmore. After a day of adventures in the Black Hills, it was great to come "home" to our "cabin sweet cabin" (as our 8-year-old brilliantly coined it!). We were even able to coax the teenagers in our group to spend more time than usual with the rest of the family. We marveled at the sunsets, stargazed after dark and enjoyed family game nights around the dinner table.

Fantastic!
Darling cabin in the woods, we loved staying here. The location is terrific - you are not far from any of the sights and instead of being in the middle of Keystone or another busy tourist town, you get to come home to peace and quiet - just 20 minutes and an easy drive, but a world away. The cabin is super clean, extremely functional with really comfortable beds. I was there with my 85 year old parents and they couldn't have been happier. My mom and dad were so excited about how "crystal clear" the tv was - dad likes to watch Monday Night Football. We cooked dinner there one night and most breakfasts (be sure to go to the Powder House for breakfast one morning though, it's a fun stop and just down the road on the way to Mt. Rushmore), so it was nice not to always eat out. Great BBQ on the porch. You really can't go wrong at Silver Mountain Cabins. There are other cabins but they are sited such that you get privacy. You will love the rustic log and paneling interior, it's just what you would want or expect on a trip to the gorgeous Black Hills of South Dakota!!

Everything was great, until we left.
The property is beautiful. The cabins are beautiful. Everything was great, until we left a day early. We rented the cabin until Monday morning, but because of school happening, we had to leave Sunday morning to be back home on time. As we were loading up the cat to leave, one of the steps of the deck broke. There was a knot in the middle of the step, and that's precisely where it broke. We had to keep going, so we finished packing up and left. We had the cabin rented until Monday morning anyway, so I waited to get down the road and get the kids situated before I messaged Jen. She texted me in the meantime. "We are not only the owners of the cabin, but we built the cabins so we know how strong and sturdy our porches are, and buildings are. We clean after each guest so we know how clean and maintenance the cabin was before you came. Your complete disrespect for our property is unacceptable and you are not allowed to come back to our property." So I texted her back. "Excuse me? Yes, the step broke this morning while we were loading up our car. It broke right on a knot. I took pictures of it so we could let you know. The knob on the bathroom window was broken when we got there. I have pictures of that too. We respected your property. Before we left, I washed dishes, cleaned the counters, cleaned the bathroom, put all the bedding on the pile, put all the towels on a pile trying to make it easier for you. So what exactly did we do to disrespect your property?" Never got a reply.

Fantastic location. Great place.
Overall I would recommend this place to anyone traveling. If you are traveling with small kids (under 3 I would be cautious with the stairs). But we had kids ages 5 and 7 so it was perfect! I would recommend bringing extra items if you are planning on cooking. Like your spices and maybe a mixing bowl. Kitchen had just the essentials and it worked. It is hard to see in the pictures it is a 2 burner stove in the corner which was nice. I don't remember it being in the listing (maybe it was) wifi is hotspot only-no streaming but they have satellite. Didn't affect us as we were out enjoying the outdoors. The first few nights were chilly (stayed mid-June) and I wished I would have brought a throw like blanket to use. If you are someone who needs extra pillows or blankets be sure to pack. (Each bed had 4 pillows, plenty for our group and sheet/top blanket). The linens they had were extremely nice, the towels were SO fluffy and big. It was hard to see in the pictures but there is shades on all the widows except the very top slanted windows. The water from the tap tasted funny to me so I would recommend bringing water to drink. The views from the cabin were very beautiful. It made me feel like we were out in the backwoods camping but with the luxury of a cabin and being so close to all the black hills attractions. I hope I helped a fellow traveler feel more prepared when traveling to stay here. The host were absolutely fantastic to work with and I would stay here again.

Recharging Time
Jen is very responsive. We had a wonderful rejuvenating time at this well constructed cabin. Nice location for exploring the Black Hills and what it has to offer outdoor enthusiast. Prefect for early risers, gets bright fast in the mornings. Beds - super high, difficult to get up into if your short legged or have mobility issues (bad knees), next time I definitely will bring a step stool so getting in and out of bed will be so much easier during our next day

We have stayed at Silver Mountain Cabins before, and we loved it there! The property is so beautiful and clean! We love the location as it is close to all the places we love to go. It’s in the middle between Rapid City and Hill City. It’s close to Custer, Mount Rushmore, and Keystone. We enjoyed our stay and we will definitely be back!
