Tucked away in the picturesque West Sussex Village of Fittleworth, this beautiful three-bedroom stone cottage is a tranquil holiday hideaway for up to eight people. Wooden beams and exposed brick walls feature in the vast open plan living space which opens completely to the secluded garden edged with woodland. The peace and luxury of your surroundings will allow you and your party to fully recharge away from the hubbub of city life.
Note: Pets are NOT allowed.
Fittleworth is nestled into the South Downs National Park between Pulborough and Petworth. It is a 20 minute drive to Goodwood, the home of world class motor and horse racing events, just 18 miles from Chichester and 9 miles from the historic town of Arundel in West Sussex. The coast is just 20-minutes away by car where you’ll find sandy beaches at Climping and Littlehampton, or the River Arun runs closer to home for fishing, canoeing and paddle boarding.
Within Fittleworth itself there are some beautiful woodland and countryside walks which are signposted from the house. Hesworth Common is directly in front of the house and offers a child-friendly 40-minute circular walk from the house, or you are just a few moments from The Swan Inn which is set to reopen in winter 2024. It is less than 10-minutes away on foot or just 2-minutes by car where you’ll find a friendly welcome, local ales, fine wines and Michelin star food.
Fittleworth Stores and Café is the heart of this village, offering a wide range of local produce and reasonably priced general groceries and newspapers alongside household items and over the counter medicines. Keen to support local farms and businesses, they stock produce from over 30 local suppliers alongside a range of local pottery and art. Their café offers sandwiches, snacks, cakes and cookies and a children’s menu which can be eaten on the terrace during the summer overlooking the village play area.
For lovers of fine wine, look no further than Nyetimber or Stopham Vineyards near Pulborough where you can enjoy tours and tastings. Pair your wine with tender cuts of local meat or cheeses from Charlie’s Farm Shop in Fittleworth, all to be enjoyed at home for garden lunches or evening suppers.
Both Amberley Castle and Arundel Castle are open year-round for visitors and sit within a short drive of the house. Petworth House & Gardens or the Weald & Downland Living Museum at Singleton offer an equally beautiful and historic experience for all ages – all fewer than 10-miles away.
Go exploring through the delightful woods of Hesworth Common directly outside the front door for picnics or seek out a country pub. There are farm shops and an award-winning convenience store within walking distance selling local food, drinks and wares, or nip into the nearby village of Pulborough or the county towns of Petworth and Arundel which host an array of historic pubs, shops and attractions.
Whether you’re looking for a family holiday, a romantic getaway or a weekend away with friends, this country abode provides the perfect base for your self-catering stay.
You’ll pass through some of the most exquisite countryside as you drive through the South Downs National Park from either London or the South Coast. Undulating patchwork hills and sweeping roads guide you to Fittleworth where this house sits up a signposted, private road opposite the village church. There is ONLY parking for TWO cars at the property. One car can be parked inside the gates in the driveway and the other just in front of the gate. Guests CANNOT park opposite the property as this is reserved for delivery and emergency vehicles. Additional free parking is available on Church Lane, just a couple of minutes walk away.
Stepping inside, fine quality furnishings and stylish pendant lighting can be found throughout to create a space which feels both homely and contemporary. Within the generous open plan living room and kitchen, there is ample space for formal dining and relaxing on sofas; one of which is a comfortable double sofa bed. During the summer months, you can spill outside through three sets of bi-folding doors which seamlessly link the house to the decking for drinks and dining alfresco. For evenings in, a flat screen TV with sound system and complementary WiFi is in place for streaming movies - although there is plenty to entertain you nearby.
If you’re cooking for family or friends, the kitchen is well-equipped with every appliance you could need to whip up a delicious meal and the wine fridge awaits your Chablis or local English sparkling wines purchased from any one of the local vineyards. There is a good range of crockery, glassware, cutlery, cooking utensils and pans, plus tea, coffee and milk will also be provided. Should you need anything in particular, or have any special dietary requirements, please ask and we will make every effort to accommodate.
There are three comfortable double bedrooms; one with king bed, one double and one twin, all dressed in quality white linens. All have built-in clothes and shoe storage, and each bed has a deep hybrid mattress with plump pillows. Plantation shutters adorn the windows to block the light for weekend lie-ins, so whatever time you fall into bed, you can ensure a truly restful night’s sleep.
The epitome of luxury, the family bathroom has a freestanding copper bath with space for two to sit comfortably at either end. There is a separate rainfall shower for when time is of the essence and the principal bedroom has an en suite shower room. Premium toiletries and fresh fluffy towels are provided, as are a hairdryer, an iron and an ironing board, so you only need to pack-light for your stay.
Please Note: The wood burning stove seen in the photos is NOT for guest use.
