Our trip was cut short because the day after we arrived, we were hit by a terrible storm (75 mph winds). We got no sleep that night; because the windows and patio doors were popping so badly, we feared they would break. Water did come into both the living room and master bedroom. We lost electrical power and water (no electricity to run the pumps) about midnight. The next morning, management arrived and started the emergency generator. Sadly, the generator only powers the water pumps, emergency lighting, and elevators. Around mid-day, management told us the electric company could not guarantee power for a week, the staff was leaving at 4 pm, and the generator would probably run out of fuel during the night, thus no power, no water, no elevator, and no emergency lights. Essentially, they told us to leave, which we did. The good dirt road out was closed by the electric company to remove a power pole that had fallen across the road. The other road out is a six mile dirt road which was washed out! Nobody seemed the least bit concerned that we were trapped and had no choice but to escape through the washed out road.
As far as the condo, it was beautiful and has tremendous potential; however it had a multitude of maintenance issues.
• 13 ceiling lights were burned out
• The patio door did not lock
• One blind in the master was broken
• The telescope in the living room was broken
• The TV in the master did not work (we were told the owner took the satellite receiver unit to another condo).
• The refrigerator ice maker did not work, thus ice trays
• There was no bottled water (dispenser in laundry room, not functioning).
• There was no "greeting" book with useful area information, something we have had at every other VVRBO we have ever rented.
• Master tub does not hold water
• Dishwasher doesn’t dispense soap
• Stove knob directions/labels have been erased
• Master closet door doesn’t work
• Faucet filters and shower filters need cleaning
• There were several remote controls in the living room, but only the DISH one had batteries and they were weak
• The major issue was that while the Building Mgr, Ivan, said he had informed all the property owners of the dire situation, nobody reached out to us. We were left to wander about the property and talk to anyone we met to get the latest "rumor."
As I said at the beginning, the condo is beautiful and spacious and could be spectacular if all the maintenance issues had not marred the experience.
