Beautiful country house close to all major attractions in Cantabria
We are a family of five and spent a week in this property. It is a really beautiful country house, right in the middle of Puente Viesgo, a lovely village located around 30 minutes away from all major attractions in Cantabria: Santander, Santillana del Mar, Comillas, Beaches, etc.... The house is un excellent state, just like the pictures show and I would definitely recommend it for families who want to spend sometime visiting Cantabria.

Gîte typique et très agréable.
Accueil très chaleureux des propriétaires qui donnent beaucoup de conseils sur les activités environnantes. Petit inconvénient: il n'y a pas de lave vaisselle.

Totally as expected!
Wonderful small town in Cantabria to use as a base. The house is comfortable, clean, and perfectly situated. Everything was as represented, comfortable and basic. The owners were very gracious and helpful with minor issues such as changing the propane tank to heat water and turn the electricity back on after the fuse box tripped. They also gave great suggestions for nearby visits, including the prehistoric caves. Our eight-day stay (2 senior couples) in early May was as expected, somewhat rustic and genuine. Highly recommend. Estancia agradable en un entorno ideal
La casa es tal como se ve en las fotos. Enclavada en un lugar idóneo para desplazarse por la región. A tiro de piedra de la autovía pero en un pueblo tranquilo.

Great location
This is a lovely cottage in which to stay. Denise and Andrew were really helpful with ideas and tips for our stay. The property is really well situated for trips out to loads of places within very easy (and longer) travelling distances for historical, cultural and activity based days. They are right on the green cycle route which stretches in both directions taking in views, rivers and countryside is suitable for all ages. The cottage has everything you need for a family stay and we eeally appreciated the cool airy interiors after long hot days out. Highly recommended.

A wonderful cottage.
From the very first, staying here was a relaxing time. We were met by the owners friend Fernando, the only spaniard we have ever met who could speak English with a scouse accent. The cottage was excellently and tastefully decorated. A comfy lounge, kitchen/dining room and a downstairs bedroom. The village itself was a great place with many restaurants and interesting river walks. For groceries we recommend a short trip to the Lupo supermarket in Vargas, about 10 mins drive. Don't miss a trip to the ice cream shop for the cheese flavour, sounds strange but it's absolutely fantastic. You'll really enjoy your stay here, Andy & Denise are great hosts even if they support Liverpool F C! All in all a wonderful vacation.

Real village home
Lovely little authentic house in a delightful village. Loads of things to do if like us you enjoy sightseeing. Particularly loved the prehistory and caves in the village and at the amazing Altimira nearby. Wonderful spa over the road. Andy and Denise very helpful settling us in with lots of good local info. Wifi a bit dodgy at times but it's the countryside! All in all, a good week!

Peace and quiet in a lovely village
We stayed a total of 15 days and it was a totally relaxing atmosphere in a lovely village. There is everything you need in Puente viesgo but the much larger Torrelavega is only 10 mins away, if you fancy shopping. We loved it and would do it again tomorrow, if it were possible. Totally exceptional and worth every penny. Mil gracias a Andy y Denise ..... Un abrazo fuerte!!!

Puente Viesgo, charming village
We loved our time in Puente Viesgo. The village is very small, but there is a wealth of places to visit nearby, and the caves in Puente Viesgo are much better than the Altamira Nuevo Cave. The house accommodated four of us easily, and although Andy and Denise were in the U.K., Fernando took good care of us.

A Large, Comfortable House a two minute walk from the center of the Prettiest Village in Cantabria
The hosts make you feel totally welcome, and stayed in touch offering suggestions .The house has been lovingly renovated and has everything you could need! We needed a downstairs bedroom so we rented the apartment as well as the house. A great house for someone with a disability. We would recommend it to a family or group of friends. In a country with a shortage of parking spaces this house has a private parking space right in front of it. Amazing! The weather allowed us to have breakfasts and cocktails or dinner on the table on the patio. Across the street is the big 5 star hotel where we treated ourselves to afternoon tea in their lounge, and across from the hotel is their Cafeteria with tables overlooking a great verandah and while having huge portions of fried Calamari ( known in Spain as Rabas) we watched wedding parties down the hill in the Gazebo. The walk along the river on the covered RR tracks offered enjoyable place for evening strolls, and chance to watch the families swim in the various swimming holes created by the river Pas and it's Falls. Had most enjoyable meals at El Marques, overlooking the river. Fresh fish and the best Pulpo legs ( Octopus) we had in 2 weeks in Spain. Note** Yes, parking is a problem everywhere but supermarket parking lots! You have to be ready to pay for parking. By US standards it is not expensive, but looking for a parking spot could ruin your visit) Just a 2 minute drive from the house are the El Castillo Caves . The oldest site of cave drawings in the world! And one of the few caves where you are allowed to visit the actual caves ( with a guide of course). Most of the other caves are resorting to offering a simulation of the cave in order to preserve it. Awe inspiring, comes closest to describing the experience of being in the caves. Like being in a timeless cathedral. From the house, we could drive 20 minutes to visit nearby beaches , at Camillas ( where you can see the first house designed by Gaudi, ) or a bit longer at St, Vincente de la Barquera. For a wonderful day trip go to Santander. Take the Hop on Hop Off bus to learn about and see the playground of the Spanish Royals, see the wonderful architecture of this elegant city, spend time on their beach, take a short ferry ride to Pedrenas to have lunch of grilled gloriously fresh fish from one of the two restaurants just across from the ferry dock. We visited Guggenheim in Bilbao, 1hour+ drive , on good higways with great views.

Fab family holiday
Lovely location for our family holiday with a wide variety of things to do nearby. For example caves, lovely beaches, pretty towns, wildlife park, cycle path to outdoor pool and high ropes course. We booked some canoeing and climbing activities in the Picos de Europa mountains which are about 80 mins away. There is a spa pool in the hotel opposite which is really nice but expensive. Helpful and friendly hosts. House was nice. We brought kids bikes with us and used the two adult bikes that were free to use with the property. Bikes need a bit of maintenance but were usable.

Very comfortable and a real home away from home.
We were met by Andy and Denise on arrival at their delightful former farm house in the hill village of Puente Viesgo, about half an hours drive south of Santander. The green Cantabrian hills (mountains) which surround the little village are truly stunning. The cottage a former farm house, is very well equipped in fact we can't think of a single item we could have reasonably asked for. A family of up to six would feel quite comfortable in the three bedrooms and as we were a party of just two it was quite luxurious. Andy and Denise gave us a run down on some of the best places to visit and to eat. It was a really nice thing to do as we were able to benefit from their 10 plus years in the area... It also probably saved us several hours of planning. During the week we worked through the list Andy gave us but didn't manage to do much more than half of it but hey there is always the next time. All too quickly our week was over but it was one we will long remember and to the question would we go back our answer is yes, yes, yes.

Cant recommend it highly enough!
We have just returned from a fabulous stay at Andy and Denise’s beautiful house in Puente Viesgo. As a family of five we are not always easy to accommodate however there was ample room for us here such that we each had our own space with some left over. The house looks traditional but has all of the modern comforts such as wifi, TV and DVD, microwave... It is spacious, clean and comfortable. There is a lovely outdoor patio area as well as a balcony off the master bedroom. We enjoyed meals outside at the house when not eating out in various establishments nearby. Cantabria is Spain’s breadbasket; meat, fish, dairy, fruit and veg are all of a great quality and taste real. Food preparation is often simple but given the quality of the ingredients is all that is needed. Prices are very competitive such that the five of us could all have a three course meal with bread and wine for 50 euros, which at the current exchange rate is less than £35. There is a lot to do nearby; the Cave of El Castillo in Puente Viesgo is a great experience and much better than the famous Altamira ones nearby. Bikes at the house as well as extras rented from the hotel across the street meant that we could cycle to the village of Ontaneida and have a dip in the pool before going on to sample the cheese ice-cream (which merited a return visit!). The river walk in Puente Viesgo itself is stunning and the river was teeming with fish. Beaches are too numerous to mention but the ones that stood out were the beaches west of Liencres (Playa de Valdearenas) and Oyambre, East of San Vicente de la Barquera (also worth a visit). Returning to the house in the evening was always a pleasure- lovely views, comfy sofas, wine in the fridge... we’ll be back! I can’t recommend it highly enough

Authentic Spain...Loved it!
Thanks so much for a wonderful stay. The cottage was spacious, clean and comfortable with a lovely garden. Our hosts Andy and Denise were welcoming, hospitable and always available to deal with any queries or offer advice on the surrounding area. This part of Cantabria has loads of amazing beaches, great countryside and interesting places to visit - we could have done with longer than a week!

This is a very special place!
Great house and in the mornings the balcony with its view just invited us to linger. The nearby nature is simply outstanding and the people ever so friendly. Food and wine in abundance, great value for money. Highly recommend this for a stay in "non typical" Spain.

Lovely cottage...Lovely village!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage. Andy & Denise went out of their way to make us welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them. The cottage is very comfortable and has modern facilities whilst retaining its authenticity with beautiful beams, wooden floors and exposed stonework. The surrounding area is stunning as are the nearby beaches which were virtually empty. We also spent time in the lovely village and were delighted that the light evenings meant we could sunbathe until after 9 pm. We recommend the cottage as the ideal location for those looking for a peaceful, scenic holiday with the comforts of home.

Lovely house. Wish we had longer!
Lovely house. Wish we had longer. Andy & Denise were really helpful and relaxed. The caves in the village are definitely worth a visit. (The oldest in the world). The Cheese ice cream in Ontaneda is delicious and the Wildlife park in Carbarceno is the best weve been to! Beach at Liencres is Fantastic and only 20 mins away. Thank you!

Real Spain ....Yipee !!
Fab place exactly as described, Denise & Andy (the owners) were a lovely couple who went out of their way to help with info about the surrounding area. The village itself was great very peaceful & relaxing & the village eateries especially le Terrazza & el Marques were fab great local wine & cheapest & best seafood I have eaten in Europe, the same could be said for every where we ate out, up & down the local coast & inland too. Great base to sample the delights of Cantabria, our first time but probably not the last..

Loved the Variety!
Really enjoyed our holiday. Loved the variety about the place, sea, mountains and lastly the lake. We rented the whole cottage as we liked the idea of putting the kids in the separate studio apartment...Peace! The cottage itself was perfect, just like in the photos and we didnt have to light the log fire much even in February. We had quite a few sunny days and I think we would love to see this area in the summer. Its a gorgeous part of the world. Thanks for your recommendations and information which made our stay so successful. We will need to detox now after all the good food and wine. Hope to be back sometime in the future.

Great location and wonderful local knowledge
Have just spent a fabulous week in Cantabria. Helped along with the apartments location and some guidance of where to explore. The apartment was as expected, and had everything we needed along with being immaculate. We enjoyed being able to walk up the road for a coffee, and some loverly meals. We had grand plans for cooking but gave them up willingly as there was so much to enjoy out and about, at reasonable and cheap prices. The El Marques was loverly for seafood and steaks. The La Terraza had great value menus of the day. While Hosteria de Castaneda was unforgettable for the experience. We borrowed the bikes and had a loverly 20 min cycle, arrived while two big parties were in swing and it added to the ambiance of a stunning venue, we had the menue of the day, but I would suggest splurging if you've a special occasion or proposal!....We had a car and tom tom....so were out most days exploring after a relaxing morning (helped by the fact it's light till about 9 or so at nite) Went to nearly everything on the list of recommended places that they had in their draw of brochures and things to see, and they were very helpful with suggestions and guidance. Great place for cycling! ..we had a loverly walk along the river watching the salmon fishermen. We went to Burgos a large city for a change of pace and our recommendation for that is Cerveceria Morito @ calle de la Sombrereria open from 1 to late, A authentic tapas bar busy with a great vibe and yum food. Remember to share! Oh and also the caves nearly missed them as they were shut when we first tried to go, at 3 euro it's a must, the guide tried her best with English but just seeing them was enough. Would recommend this property to couple, mates traveling or even singles as there is alot to do in a safe enjoyable village where people are friendly and laid back. Thank you Andy and Denise for a loverly stay , that we will remember with photos and fond memories.
