Meadow House near Crater Lake South entrance, upper Rogue River, 100 acre trails

The Meadow House is named for the expansive meadow it is sited on, and for it’s amazing views and surrounding abundance of natural beauty and wildlife.

Located on the historic 100-acre Katydid Ranch in the rural Cascade mountains, (1 mile from the Rogue River, 28.9 miles from Crater Lake south entrance), this 2-story house is nestled between old timber forest woodlands and meadow. A Protected Wildlife Habitat Area, it includes two large ponds, miles of walking/hiking trails, the equine barn and bunkhouse. Owners also reside on the ranch. Available during all four seasons, the Meadow House is as spectacular in the snow-covered winter as it is in the warm weather of summer.

INTERIOR. The Meadow House (part of the historic Katydid Ranch of the early 1900's), has been rebuilt with custom details throughout and is a lovely way to enjoy extra creature comforts indoors while taking in gorgeous views of meadows and mountains through its many windows. Hardwood floors throughout, custom cabinetry, granite counters, large tiled bathrooms, a wood-burning fireplace (living room) and a large bright kitchen (set up for convenience of meal preparation) provide quality comfort.

Take your pick of the upstairs spacious master (king sized bed-new and very comfortable) or the downstairs corner bedroom (queen sized bed-also new and comfy) which is located next to a full bath. Additionally, there is a small private sleeping room located off the upstairs enclosed balcony which we dub the "eagle's nest". It's a small loft room with a double/full bed and works for a single person or two teenagers that share a bed. The Eagle's nest is small and probably not comfortable for an adult couple.

The house is in pristine condition, designed for comfort, and offers views all around. The wrap around deck is great for reading, relaxing, or barbecuing. It's also wonderful at day end for enjoying a glass of wine and waiting for the wildlife to visit.

OUTSIDE. Just outside the front door, guests will find the entrance to the “pinecone trail” which leads up a small hill to a secluded sanctuary perfect for star-gazing (the night skies are magnificent!) or side-by-side hammock-style relaxation, and a cozy camp-fire pit. It's a very short walk back to the house if you decide to spread out your tablecloth for a romantic picnic on the knoll. At summer end, the ranch berry bushes are available to guests in abundance. Pick enough for your special treat of sweet wild blackberries when in season.

WINTER. On a winter day, you might see wild turkeys and deer browsing in the meadow and then catch the elk coming in for moonlight grazing after dusk. The winter months bring clear cold crisp weather and there is nothing more gorgeous than when the fresh blanket of snow covers the meadow. That’s when it’s time to cozy up to the wood-burning fireplace and relax as you watch the gentle white flakes fall.
Crater Lake National Park offers free ranger-guided snow-shoe walks on weekends and even loan you the snow-shoes! Snow-mobiling and cross-country skiing are popular too. We love spotting all of the animal tracks in the snow!

SPRING. Wildflowers, bulbs, and by the end of May, the Iris are blooming. The meadow grasses are lush with spring showers and warming weather. A gorgeous time of year to visit.

SUMMER. During the summer months the meadow is shared with the ranch horses for daytime grazing who return to the barn at day end just in time for other wildlife visitors to arrive.

FALL. End of summer visitors are invited to indulge in the abundance of wild-blackberry picking (usually beginning by mid-August and lasting through most of September) If you can actually get the sweet berries in a bucket (supplied) you might decide to make a pie later on, or serve them over ice-cream. Yum! If not, just eat them off the bush and enjoy!

Relaxing is an important all-season activity, but not to the exclusion of hiking the numerous trails, bird/wildlife spotting, horse shoes, mountain biking, visiting the ponds, or checking out the old Boise-Cascade tree nursery on the property.

Guests are welcome, if they wish, to join us at the barn at feeding time to enjoy that special time of day with the horses and say hello to the owners whose home is also situated on the meadow; close enough to be available for any unexpected needs and far enough for privacy.

Lovely Property and Owners
We had a wonderful stay at Meadow House. Perfect location for a trip to Crater Lake. Also convenient to a couple waterfall hikes nearby. The house was perfect for 4 adult friends. Very clean and had everything we could have asked for and more. Appreciate that there was a cooler we could use as well. I wish we had more time to relax at the house/property. Barb was super nice as well!

Tranquility Defined
My husband and I were overjoyed when we pulled up to the Meadow House. Everything was breathtaking, inside and out. The decor is inviting and very comfortable. There wasn't anything missing in the kitchen or bathrooms. They're well appointed, including bathrobes! We went to Crater Lake, Mill Creek Falls and viewed the boulders on the Rogue River under the East end of Peyton Bridge. There is much to do in the area. The highlight of our stay was gazing out into the meadow admiring the horses and deer, taking a stroll on one of the paths on the property and meeting the hosts, Dan and Barbara. My hope is to return and stay longer. The R&R was heaven sent. Thank you Dan & Barbara, Carey & Charlene ded

Relaxing Beautiful Location
This is a whole house with a big backyard for wildlife viewing. It is conveniently located to local sites; a 3-ring binder is provided in the house with information. This house was spotlessly clean, comfortable and quiet. The hosts were very warm and helpful. This is a 5 star location.

Fantastic property and owners!
We had a fantastic time staying at the meadow house with our kids. The location is perfect to see crater lake and the hiking trails with both the state park and forest system. They also have trails on the property too. The house is immaculate and the owners are super friendly. Our kids also enjoyed feeding the horses!

Beautiful place to get away from it all
This property was everything we love. We found it both roomy and homey. It’s well appointed and close to lots of beautiful country to explore. Dan and Barbara were very accommodating and the information they gave us about the area was excellent. Crater Lake was stunning but the ‘hidden gems’ ie: all the waterfalls in the area were incredible too. Would love to come back and stay longer!

Meadow house was an excellent place to stay while visiting Crater Lake. Better than we could have ever imagined. Extremely spacious and well-appointed. Really comfortable and nicely decorated. Included a huge kitchen. Surrounding grounds were fun to explore. Barbara was really attentive and made sure everything was prepared for our stay.

A very comfortable, beautiful retreat
This home gets an A+ for comfort, cleanliness, and a lovely meadow view. The owners––who are very communicative and gave us a tour of their ranch--equipped the home with everything that we needed and more. We also really liked walking the trails that they maintain on the property. Very cool! To top it off, it's conveniently situation in between Crater Lake and Ashland, making it easy to see the magnificent lake or a play in town.

Fabulous accommodation!
Five of us met for a girls' reunion, and Meadow House was absolutely perfect. It's well-appointed, spacious and fully stocked with everything we needed. Prior to arriving, Barbara was responsive, and she welcomed us when we arrived. The huge kitchen had everything, the beds were very comfortable, linens were quality, etc. There's a cozy porch over-looking the meadow for relaxation, as well as plenty of open outdoors space. This is definitely a top VRBO property!

The property was gorgeous--could not have asked for a more memorable experience.
The home is beautifully decorated, well equipped and perfectly maintained. It is very quiet and since it sits on 100 acres you have walking trails right out your front door. There are two horses that graze in the pasture directly out your front window. I only wish we could have stayed longer. Susan

Lovely home on beautiful property
We arrived at Meadow House after a very long day of travel and our first thought was that we wished we were staying longer. The home was nicely updated with a huge kitchen and is located in a very quiet farm setting. Private and clean this was a great location for our day trip to Crater Lake. The property has several trails on site which provide easy and beautiful hikes. We had several questions prior to our stay regarding weather, fires and location and Barbara was always quick to reply with helpful information. If we return to the area, we would definitely stay again.

This home is absolutely gorgeous. We had a wonderful, relaxing visit here. The property is wonderful and we saw deer and elk in the morning right in front of the house in the meadow. As the sun came up we enjoyed our coffee out on the deck, just soaking in the warm sun and the peace and quiet. Enjoyed hiking the property to the turtle and lily ponds and really loved the campfire/star viewing area. Nearby waterfalls and forest hiking were a definite plus. Glorious. Hope to return some time.

Great home-comfortable and clean
This place is amazing. The house is well appointed and comfortable for 2-4 people. The layout is great and the amenities are nice (wifi and satellite TV !) especially when coming back from a great day in the wilderness and a plan to relax! The kitchen had all the small appliances and major ones we needed to cook. We slept comfortably in the loft master suite and my husband still talks about the great blanket on that bed. We will be back!!

Large and beautiful house in a bucolic setting
Meadow house is really lovely- homey, comfortable, clean, beautifully maintained, and air conditioned. And much much more! We had a long weekend gathering to attend our brother's wedding, and it was hard to get me to leave the house. I kept sketching all of the barns, and the horses! Thanks for a wonderful stay. Amy

Home away from Home!
We had a wonderful stay at the Meadow House. We were in the area to visit Crater Lake and this was the perfect place to stay. An easy drive to the lake but a lovely spot to escape to at the end of the day. The house has everything you could possibly need and it is beautifully clean and cared for. It is incredibly quiet and sits in acres of grounds perfect for strolling. Our only regret is that we had only booked for two nights, we would have happily stayed much longer. Barbara was very easy to deal with when booking and she and Dan were very welcoming on our arrival. We highly recommend the Meadow House, you will not be disappointed!

AWESOME home near Crater Lake
This was the last leg of our Oregon vacation. Last, but not least! This home exceeded all expectations. Barbara and Dan did an wonderful job restoring this farmhouse while still keeping it's charm. They were great hosts, friendly and inviting. I would recommend this home to anyone visiting the area. Explore the grounds as well as the local parks, waterfalls and scenic areas. Crater Lake is a must! A big 'thank you' to Barbara and Dan for sharing their beautiful home.

Meadow House is special
This is a lovely house in an amazing location, and so much attention to details. The back deck overlooking the meadow is an incredible way to start and finish your day. Crater Lake was still pretty snowed in, so we couldn't do much exploring there, but The Rogue was a fantastic backup. We loved seeing the waterfalls and gorges, and took some amazing walks. I think our favorite spot was Pearsony Falls because you could stand on the banks and watch and listen. The walk was easy and we only saw one other person. Thank you Barbara and Dan for letting people enjoy your property.

Meadow House Delight
First of all Barbara and Dan are amazing hosts. The whole experience was like staying at good friends house for 3 days and the host thought of EVERYTHING to make our stay enjoyable. We felt valued and loved the house. It was more than the pictures and our expectations were high on arrival and all were met with 5 stars. The meadow view, the horses, trails and the peace and tranquility was amazing. Kitchen is fabulous and has everything you would ever need to cook a gourmet meal to snacks. We would love to come back and visit our "new friends" again.

Beautiful home away from home
We had a wonderful New Year's in southern Oregon at this very spacious, but still homey, house in the woods. It's about a 40 minute drive up to Crater Lake where we cross county skiied and snowshoed every day. And there were hiking trails around the property that we barely had time to enjoy! Kitchen is well stocked, beds all comfortable, everything very modern. There was plenty of room for my husband and I, our teenage daughter and her friend, and one night we had 2 friends visit and stay overnight in the Eagle's Nest alcove, which is very cute. Barbara, our host, was helpful in every way that we needed. We highly recommend this house for visiting the Crater Lake area!
