Overall we had a good experience and enjoyed our time. All the reviews I’ve seen on this property are accurate (good and bad). As a preface, we lean a bit to the detail oriented side of the personality scale.
The good.
-This property has a very open floor plan.
-A great view from the back porch.
-The kids room is a nice touch and our little girl immediately felt at home.
-Pet friendly certainly was helpful as we planned to bring our small dog.
-Yavapai Hills is a great location between Prescott and Prescott Valley.
-Fast wifi (100mbps download, 20mbps upload).
-Renovated. Judging by pictures from Zillow the owners have renovated, specifically the kitchen (we liked what you did with it!)
The areas we see room for improvement.
-Deep cleaning. This home certainly was cleaned before we arrived. We could smell the bleach. All typical surfaces (counter, table, floor, etc) were very clean. Once we opened drawers, cupboards and started to settle in things were different. Crumbs on the dining table chairs, dried food in the trash cabinet, the kitchen drawers and utensils were random and disheveled leaving us wondering if they were clean. Teflon pans stacked and scratched. Hard water minerals abounded including the utensils and cups. We re-washed and dried everything we planned to use...didn’t have any issue after.
-Details. We found a single shoe in one of the dresser drawers. Kids underwear in the kids dresser. What appeared to be a bullet hole in window near the front door. No trash bags, 1 roll of paper towels, 3 rolls of toilet paper total in the house. Broken tripod on the telescope. A dilapidated boat, two trucks, a shed falling apart. These weren’t deal breakers for us, but we thought it odd for a property offered to the public.
Things that would have been nice to know.
-Last 200 yards to the property. It’s down a steep gravel/dirt drive. To me this is price of admission for the view. If we had a low ground clearance car I don’t know if we could have navigated the steep turns of the driveway and potholes on the dirt road. All of the private property signage as we left the city asphalt street was very confusing initially as well. It felt like we were driving into some else’s driveway/backyard.
-Off-limits areas. The lower level of the home, basically the garage, is locked. Also the master closet. The dressers in the master are available, but plan on sharing hanging closet space with the guest bedroom or kids room.
