Summary:
#StayinMyDistrict Buckman Lodge! Located in the heart of Inner SE Buckman neighborhood, walk to Revolution Hall, dining, food trucks, coffee shops, & shopping. Newly renovated to reflect a cozy, lodge-like sanctuary with quality amenities, local artifacts, linens & furnishings perfectly suited to the traveler used to higher end properties. Private 1bed/1 bath, Kitchenette, FREE Street Parking, Smart TV’s/WIFI. One Pre-Approved SMALL Dog

The Space:
#StayinMyDistrict Buckman Lodge. The street level apartment offers plenty of street parking in the surrounding block, and there is a 2BR/1BA apartment above you. The previous owners renovated this basement into a private apartment with a private entrance. The space itself has been renovated in September 2021 to reflect a cozy, lodge-like feel while providing a comfortable sanctuary with the highest quality appliances, local artifacts, linens and furnishings - many of which were sourced and created by local artisans. Very cool in the summer (great AC) and warm in the winter.

The bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed with a new mattress and has soft lighting, USB and outlets at each side of the bed, high quality linens, three small drawers on each side, an antique chest of drawers, a Smart Roku TV and a small area to hang belongings.

The full bathroom is modern, clean and updated with a walk in shower, shower bench and modern fixtures. Bathroom amenities include quality linens, shampoo and conditioner, and hairdryer.

The whimsical main living area has a firm loveseat that converts into a full size bed (Mattress topper is provided) for that extra travel partner(s), an end table with USB and outlets and an ottoman to rest your tired feet after a long day. A large, Roku SmartTV is provided for your viewing pleasure.

Located in a foodie neighborhood, you will enjoy walking to local dining options! The kitchenette is built for preparing a great cup of coffee, small meals or reheating your leftovers from nearby restaurants. It includes a small refrigerator stocked with essentials, sink, drip coffee maker, french press, bean grinder (with local beans provided), microwave and toaster. We have even provided an ice maker for those in need of a cold drink after a long day of exploring the neighborhoods. Dining area with bar height table with four comfortable leather chairs are provided for meals, games or working remotely enjoying the very fast Google Mesh Wi-Fi network with speeds up to 200Mbps for those occasional Teams or Zoom calls

While noise should be at a minimum, please understand that there is another unit above you and as with any multi-family living situation, you may hear an occasional squeak of floor, footsteps or an occasional sound from our 1 1/2 year old terrier mix Bean, protecting us from the mailman. If you are sensitive to this, please take that into consideration. For those light sleepers, we provide ear plugs and a white noise machine next to the bed to lull you to sleep.

Guest Access:
Guests have access to the private unit.

The Neighborhood:
Buckman is a neighborhood in the Southeast section of Portland, Oregon. The neighborhood is bounded by the Willamette River on the west, E Burnside St. on the north, SE 28th Ave. on the east, and SE Hawthorne Blvd. on the south. The Buckman neighborhood is in a great location as it is in close proximity to some of Portland’s most hip and popular neighborhoods such as Kerns, Laurelhurst, and Belmont. Residents have plenty of independent retail, coffee, pub, and dining options just a stone’s throw away in most cases across several adjoining neighborhoods.
Buckman’s Hawthorne District is one of the most unique, and most popular areas in Southeast Portland. The area is known for its wonderfully restored Old Portland homes, liberal residents, and fun and funky feel. The street is lined with unique restaurants and shops and has a definite Portland-local flair. Local area standouts are Slow Bar, Rontoms, My Father’s Place, and the Lucky Labrador Brew Pub. The closest include:
- The Low Tide: A vegetarian Mexican restaurant/bar with great outdoor seating and lively bar scene inside. The nacho’s are HUGE! (Dogs allowed outside)
- Beer: A full bar that is open all day/evening and has a broad range of local draft selections (Dogs allowed inside and outside!) and is right next to Revolution Hall where there is a large dog park
- The Vern: A throwback dive bar with a great outdoor patio in back with personal, on table heaters (Dogs allowed outside)
- The Eastburn: Great brunch option and their food is very good (Dogs allowed outside which are picnic tables in front of the restaurant)
- The Screen Door: Iconic brunch stop in Portland with some favorites that include their Banana’s Foster French toast, Praline Bacon and Fried Chicken and Waffles (unsure about dog policy).
- Ken’s Artisan Pizza: Easily one of the best pizza and Italian restaurants in the city. No reservations and no outdoor space (sorry puppies) but their pizza, roasted market vegetables with whipped house made ricotta and a side order of their own amazing bread (you have to request…it isn’t on the menu) makes a little time away from the puppy well worth it.
Compared to most other areas of Portland, there is so much to eat and drink in Buckman that you can spend every day trying a new place and it will take you over a year to get to them all. Buckman is a foodie’s paradise, but it’s also home to a wide array of local microbreweries. In case you weren’t aware, Portland has more microbreweries per capita than any other city in the world, and it seems that almost all of them call Buckman home.

Getting Around:
To have an authentic Portland experience, there is no need to leave the neighborhood. Shopping, dining and entertainment are abundant. This is very urban area convenient for walking, biking or using public transportation. Portland also has a wonderful Bike Share BIKETOWN located all over Portland Metro. You could get around efficiently with an UBER. Public Transportation is close by with a bus stop only a few minute walk from the house. You can use the buses and the MAX light rail to get anywhere in Portland Metro. Great Coffee, dining and a grocery store blocks from the property. The 15 bus ($2.50 which is good for 2 hours) which is a 3 minute walk away at 20th and Morrison will take you to downtown or all the way to the NW district (and right to the Portland Timbers stadium) to try some of their fantastic restaurants including Bar West, Carina Lounge, North 45 Pub, St. Jack, and G-Love among many more.

Cozy, comfortable basement apartment
We were comfortable & secure in this apt. The kitchen was well-stocked with necessary equipment. We enjoyed walking in the neighborhood, discovering amazing historic homes & gardens. It was handy to lots of cool restaurants, pop-up eateries, bakeries, parks, thrift shops.

Great little spot, very walk-able to so many cool spots to eat and drink. Kitchenette was well stocked, and having a corner store next door is super convenient.

Portland Underground
Property is exactly as presented: clean, well functioning bathroom, comfortable bedroom, and adequate breakfast prep area. This is a short-stay place--we missed a full kitchen, and we got a little cramped with no closet space. Suggest a darker curtain for the bedroom and a more comfortable couch, but we loved the door into the hillside effect.

Nice spot
Very nicely decorated. They did a good job with a small space. Nice and cool in the summer which was great cause it was very warm while we were there! The immediate neighborhood isn’t the greatest but it’s easy to walk to many places of interest.

Great Location to Downtown Portland
Great location to base your exploration of downtown Portland from 2 minutes to the bus stop. 10 minutes to downtown. Public transit is pretty easy to navigate in Portland. Quite a few food and drink options within walking distance.

Perfect for Us!
We came to Portland for a concert at Revolution Hall—which was a nice, safe 5 minute walk from our door. The property was in a great old part of town with big Victorian homes and located close to everything! Initially, I thought it was so much smaller than I had imagined in the photos—but it was a comfortable, classy hideaway! We enjoyed the “art gallery” throughout the place. The bed and pillows were perfection. It was also priced RIGHT.
