Portland Heights is a very pleasant hotel but bear if mind if you are on foot that it is not near facilities although has a bus stop opposite. The dining room and cafe have superb views and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. However the cafe and food is quite expensive. The room was pleasant although a little dated however I was surprised to be informed that servicing of the rooms only take place once every three days.

Tolerable
This hotel is tolerable, but there are lots of annnoying things.WiFi signal in my room was weak; hardly ever worked. Tea cups are TINY. Not replenishing tea bags. Noisey pipes. No sockets near bed. Room key failed twice so I had to get a new one from reception. Everything seems to be on the cheap.

Lovely location with Fantastic sea views
The receptionist Zoe was very helpful and was attentive to my needs to accommodate.
The room needed plug sockets next to the bed or phone charging facilities usc usb etc
The bathroom was in need of an update.
I would highly recommend a stay here
Breakfast was brilliant with views

Mini Break
We chose this hotel for its location and views which are amazing. The hotel itself is dated and the long dark corridors to the rooms on the ground floor are not appealing. The rooms are in need of updating and decorating, ie, decent light over bathroom mirror and change shower curtain to glass screen. Room was suffient. There was a good choice for breakfast. Did not try evening restaurant however bar meals were good.
We had an emergency situation and needed a hotel for the night and arrived quite late.
The gentleman manager let us in and was so helpful, offered to arrange a taxi first thing in AM and carried our heavy luggage upstairs. The room was a little barebones but clean and fine for a few hours sleep. In the morning the taxi arrived perfectly on time and again the nice manager helped with luggage.
We finally got to appreciate the view, heard some interesting information from manager who was lifelong resident and the upstairs restaurant is quite lovely.
I would recommend this charming hotel, the service is above and beyond and view really special for this quaint seaside island town.
Love this place. The view is spectacular. Bit sad no longer allowed to sit in the lounge during the day, to admire the said view. We felt let down that this option is no longer feasible. Not sure why. Not told the reason. The cafe doesn’t have the same appeal I’m afraid.
The hotel is quite old. At first we got a vwry smelly and tiny room (paid for extra large) but aftwr immediate complain, we get a better one. Staff is very friendly.
Restaurant though is not the best - food is so, so, staff is so, so. You can't seat whre you want - you'll be seated in a herd, together with others, even when is nearly empty because that how they do it ... Not the cheapest either.
