Secluded waterfront cabin in Porter Maine

The views from this secluded cottage are amazing. Perfect place if you enjoy your privacy, or love nature and just want to get away from it all. It has floor to ceiling glass and has a huge field stone fireplace. It is a true Maine cottage, constructed by Maine Cottage Builders. All beautiful wood inside. It has a large loft for children to play and a family friendly open living area. It is waterfront and has a deck at the water’s edge for swimming and later enjoying a drink in the late afternoons watching the sunset, it is located on 40 private acres with 900 feet of waterfront. The road into the property is approximately 3/4 of a mile long and is unpaved. It is maintained every year and is fine for an average car, or sport utility. Low riding luxury cars like mercedes, or sports cars are not recommended. If you cancel your reservation and I am able to rent your week to someone else, your rental amount less your deposit will be refunded. If I am not able to rent your week you will forfeit the entire amount paid. This property is surrounded by mountains so the best way to make calls is to set your phone to WiFi calling. I have an Apple Smart Phone with Sprint Service, and I changed my phone settings to WiFi calling while inside the cabin to: Settings>Cellular>WiFi Calling , this worked beautifully and my phone worked great. You should contact your phone service provider before arriving to find out how you set your particular phone to make calls through WiFi. It does have satelite TV and there is also a land line telephone for local calls and a phone card can be used for long distance calls.

Perfect
This house was perfect for our young family to relax and hang by the water. Sandy beach and shallow warm water. Very quiet lake. The driveway takes about 5 minutes to drive (and 9 minutes to run!) but is fun! I wouldn’t trust a sedan to not bottom out, but our outback had no problem. Ken was very nice. The place is spotless. Very quiet which is exactly what we wanted! Highly recommend.

Better than listed!
The pictures with this listing do not do it justice! The house was wonderful, big and clean. It is larger even than needed for 6 people. If you include the futon in the basement, which my older son preferred, it really sleeps 8. The house has many beautiful windows facing the Pond. It was colder and buggy the first few days we were there, but we were still able to enjoy the beautiful view from inside! We enjoyed the boats (2 Kayaks, a Canoe, and 2 rowboats) for fishing and exploring. Life vests for all ages are available at the house. One of my sons caught three good bass, 15 inch, 19 inch and 19 1/2. They also caught small bluegills, sunnies, and perch. Lake Trout and Salmon were likely down deep and unable to be caught without a larger boat. The house was stocked with all the dishes, cooking and baking pans we needed. The Manager was very polite and helpful. Thank you for a great week!

This was a return trip for us and again, not disappointed. We love how quiet and secluded it is. We enjoyed using the kayaks and the canoe to explore the pond and took day trips for local hikes. Wonderful experience.

Spectacular setting
Beautiful property in a gorgeous location. Property is quite remote so plan on bringing EVERYTHING with you. There is a few stores about a half hour away but really helpful to have brought everything with us. Road access is an issue. It literally is a long distance off the main road. Definitely plan on high clearance vehicles. Not a problem to use a standard sedan but not an easy drive. Kitchen is limited and grill is cheap and charcoal so difficult to do much with. Small deck or patio area is gravel. Yard furniture is cheap and not great for lounging. Overall a fabulous time but hope info will help you prepare for your trip.

Secluded and picturesque
I always try to find a vacation rental that is a lakefront property, quiet, secluded, private. This place really fits the bill. Neighbors are a good distance away. You won’t see or hear anyone else. We were there in the second week of September. There was little to no boat traffic, so the water was still and peaceful. The lake water is clean and clear. We are avid kayakers. It is easy to launch kayaks from the property. Additionally, we found other lakes in the area to kayak as well. You can easily kayak a different lake each day, just a short trip away. All with beautiful views. Very enjoyable stay there, would definitely go back again. Just wish they had a gas grill instead of charcoal.

Fantastic Vacation
Our family couldn't have asked for a better week. The property is truly special. I was amazed at how quiet it was. The location on the pond was super remote which is exactly what we were looking for. The house itself is beautiful, the layout is perfect and the attention to detail is amazing. Builder is truly talented. Hope to be back!

Modern cabin in rustic setting
The cabin is beautiful there is plenty of room for a family to spread out with loft, main floor and lower(ground level) the road in does take about 5-7 minutes, we hiked to the end and back daily lots of horse flies, limited cell service, A tree fell across the road in while we were there luckily house phone worked and power company was quick to act, definitely isolated, lake is great clear water with sandy/rocky bottom, used kayaks daily, plenty of floaties in lower level, small grocery store 15 minutes away, town of Cornish a little further down road has some restaurants and shops, very relaxing

Spacious, beautifully-designed cabin in a peaceful natural setting.
We spent three weeks in this calm oasis, swimming and paddling in the crystal clear lake, hiking on nearby trails, as well as just relaxing at the cabin and enjoying the peaceful environment. The house was clean and well-maintained by the designer-builder, Ken Wilson. He was wonderfully helpful and accommodating and a delightful conversationalist full of information about the region. Provisioning was easy. We shopped locally at Cal’s supermarket and supplied ourselves with fresh vegetables, fruits, (and delicious home-made cookies and breads!) at Merrifield Farmers Market on Route 25. And we loved poking around in nearby antique shops. Maples Antiques, owned by Keith Gamache, was a stand-out. And do check out the fascinating Rufus Porter Museum in Bridgton!

Fantastic!
The pictures and description of this property don't come close to how beautiful this home is. We've rented someplace different in Maine and New Hampshire almost every year for 30 years and this is the first place my husband and I agree we would like to come back. A pick up truck or SUV is a must on this road. It is a 7 minute drive from the main road to the lake house. So worth it when you arrive. The lake was so quiet and peaceful. The water was very clear. We enjoyed floating, kayaking and just sitting on the little beach with a cocktail. We did not encounter any ticks during our week. Inside was so beautiful and had everything you could possibly need, so just come ready to relax and enjoy!

Serenity
This is by far one of my family's favorite vacations. Years ago we had a cabin we would rent yearly, unfortunately the family that owned it sold it. We have been searching every year for our new "millinocket" to no avail. We finally found our spot. This place is beautifully maintained, the water was crystal clear, the privacy is unrivaled, the caretaker Ken greeted us and walked us through the house (everyone wore masks and social distanced due to the virus ) such a pleasant man. We lost power once due to a downed tree in a surrounding town but we called cmp and were updated and the power came back on shortly. You will need to connect to wifi and wifi calling to use your cell. However I suggest disconnecting and enjoying the beauty of the home and lake. I read previous reviews about ticks,we only experienced one and were up and down the hill to the water multiple times. I mean you're in the woods of course there are ticks people. Just check yourself when you come in. We saw it grabbed some tape and got rid of it. Easy as pie. We also read about furry friends, we saw not a single one. We fell in love with this rental and fully intend on coming back. The only issue we had is the height of the furniture being a low to the ground. My brother (who has a bad knee) and husband are 6'2" and my father had knee replacement surgery so with furniture that is low to the ground getting up was not conducive. We had brought camping chairs however and strategically placed them on the rugs around the living room to not damage the beautiful floors and moved some furniture around which is extremely light and easy to move (we moved it back before we left) to make it work. The wood work in the cabin is breathtaking, the provided every possible amenity you could possibly need, the communication I had with owners with questions, were answered quickly and with precision and the local grocery store is only a 15 minute drive. Thank you for letting us stay in your home. We look forward to coming back.

Even better than expected
My boyfriend and I stayed with four children (ages 12-18) for the week and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner was very responsive and friendly and quickly answered my questions. Easy check in with the caretaker Ken who gave us a quick and helpful tour when we arrived. The driveway was not as bad as I expected from other reviews, but I drive a Honda CR-V which is a little higher off the ground. A low to the ground vehicle could be treacherous. The cottage is beautiful- even nicer in person than the photos - and impeccably clean. With all of the glass it felt like being in a tree house. The beds were comfortable and there were extra pillows and blankets had we needed them. Although the days were hot and muggy, it cooled down at night and the fans provided made it comfortable for sleeping. The loft area had an A/C but we ended up opening the windows to cool it down instead. The 12 year olds loved the loft space and were thrilled with the air hockey table. Tap water was potable, but we brought bottled to drink anyway. Shower water pressure was wonderfully strong! We appreciated having a washer and dryer available. There were plenty of bath towels and washcloths. Bring your own beach towels. A well equipped kitchen with all appliances, including dishwasher. Coffee maker, blender, toaster and plenty of pots and pans & dishes & utensils provided. We got a lot of use out of the kayaks and canoe and rowboat. Pond is small enough that we were able to paddle to all corners during our stay. No other people on our side of the lake so it was very private and tranquil all week. Lots of life preservers, snorkeling fins, masks, etc to use. One evening an owl perched on branch just outside the living room windows. We had a great time watching him and he watching us. We didn’t have much luck fishing, only catching one tiny fish the whole week, but we had fun trying. We weren’t able to get our cell phones to work for calls or texts, so we used web-based apps like FaceTime, Snapchat, FB Messenger instead which worked great with the WiFi. You are in the Maine woods, so ticks are a part of life. We found them on us occasionally but brushed the off/flushed them down the toilet & checked ourselves over before bed. Charcoal grill & charcoal is provided. There is a little sandy beach and the bottom of the lake is a bit rocky so if you might want some water shoes. Water is incredibly clean and clear and great for swimming. Highly recommend this property!

Just a perfect experience
This house had everything and more. It has the wow factor once you enter the house with the gorgeous view of the lake and the windows that cover the whole wall. Super clean! The beds were very comfortable. The water pressure was really good. The house has all the fun toys to spend the day by the water (kayaks, canoes, tubes, snorkeling, noodles, etc). One of my favorite things to do was driving on the mile long unpaved road to and from the house. Kitchen has everything you need. Hearing the loons at night is such an amazing sound. My daughter is still talking about "our 'cation house". One thing about the house being in the middle of the woods is that there are ticks and other bugs, but if you check yourself and your loved one you will be ok. The caretaker (Mr. Wilson) was really nice and helpful. We look forward to making more memories in this house! Thank you Mr. Hoelzel!

Perfect for a secluded, nature-filled getaway
Unforgettable. The pictures really don’t do it justice. Biggest pros: incredible seclusion in nature (waking up to the sound of birds chirping, the occasional woodpecker, and loons in the distance), the cabin (a humble but beautiful property constructed with wood from the lot itself), the peaceful view of and easy access to the water, washer/dryer (came in handy and is a load off the mind, no pun intended). Linens, pillowcases, and towels were included, which was wonderful. Ken, the caretaker, who happens to be the person who designed and built the place, was very welcoming and helpful. I enjoyed hearing the story behind the cabin and all its details. Also, there was a ton of camp wood available for us to use; we only needed to top up once during our one-week stay. Biggest downside: there were a lot of bugs - ticks in particular were frequently found on our bodies (mostly dog ticks, so easy to spot, but we did find a few deer ticks). Totally fine as long as you do a thorough body check every night. Additionally, the cabin regulated heat very well simply by opening windows for a cross breeze, but on the hottest nights it got pretty warm regardless. A couple of tips: the private driveway was long and a little rugged, so drive an appropriate vehicle. The power did go out for a time during a stormy day but it was resolved within a couple of hours. Overall I loved the place and would definitely return another time. I doubt I could find something better in southern Maine of the same quality and value. Highly recommend.

Wonderful get away in a beautiful home
We spent a week in this wonderful place and enjoyed it tremendously. The house is very spacious, inammaculately clean and fully equipped. It is remote enough, so you enjoy the silence of the woods and close enough to any amenities you might need. Ken Wilson is a wonderful caretaker of the place and Chris Hoelzel is very kind and responsive. Recommend highly and we will certainly be returning!

Fantastic!!!
We took our four children (ages 9 - 17) here for a few days and had a great time!! This house is stunning and was very spacious for all of us!! We hated to leave! They have a fully stocked linen closet, so the only thing you really need to bring are beach towels -- leave the bed linens and bath towels at home! The owner is exceptionally flexible and gracious and the caretakers of the property are most pleasant! We had limited cell service with other iPhone users (for texts), but the house had wifi. This home is situated on a crystal clear lake that was fabulous for swimming, canoeing and kayaking...the fish that lived here were elusive during our stay. We found a little floating dock down a few yards from the front of the property, where we hung out most afternoons. Overall, it was a pretty secluded property so it was quiet. We all got to appreciate nature a little more while here! :) Truly fabulous! Thank you for opening your home and for being most accommodating to our group!

Secluded, Peaceful Lake Getaway
This lake home was just what my husband and I needed to escape and decompress for the week.Chris, the owner and Ken, the care-taker were very helpful and attentive. If you want zero traffic, no neighbors and sweet sounds of the Loons, birds and chipmunks, this is where you need to be! We enjoyed kayaking every day. We also took the canoe out. The cleanest, clearest water we've EVER seen. Built a fire in the massive stone fireplace almost every night.Close to lots of great hiking trails. Downfalls: the fish did not want to be caught or seen; the ticks in the yard were really bad; the master bed is only a double? futon-type and not very comfortable. The driveway is '0.9' miles of gravel, dirt and grass- you have to be willing and up for an adventure! Overall, it was everything we wanted- except to leave. Thanks for making your home available for others to soak in the phenomenal serenity!
