"So much was excellent. The value for money is spot on and even though the restaurant is pricey for Portugal, it's still very good value. Breakfast was far more than we'd expected, especially after some poor offerings elsewhere. Fresh cake, cereal, meat, cheese, scrambled eggs, tea, coffee, yoghurt, fruit, juice, etc. Only suggestion to Sever would be to tidy it up a bit in places - outside litter pick, replace odd bits of tatty furniture (our bed frame and one shelf), strengthen the WiFi...

"Jose and Clara were consummate hosts for whom nothing was too much trouble. The azenha was a home from home, comfortable and with everything one could need. The setting is idyllic, surrounded by trees and with streams flowing past the mill, on the smaller of which Jose has constructed an island of cemented stones, reached by a small wooden bridge. "Fantastic hotel right in the centre of Portalegre. The staff were very helpful, the room was great and the breakfast was excellent. The neighbourhood is quaint with lovely old cobbled streets with good shops, interesting buildings and good restaurants. Easy access to the local national park. "

Great Location but food novel and walls too thin!

"The hotel is in an excellent location with good views over the rural landscape. The decorations are getting a little tired but it is still OK. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The one surprise that we had was that the only food on offer in the restaurant was local peasant food with no written menu available. The food was good but basic and we had no idea what it was going to cost us. The walls between the rooms are very thin as we could hear exactly what was going on in the neighbouring rooms!"
