QUIRKY MOM&POP LODGING--CLEAN, COMFY, AND CHEAP: The good: Easy to find and truly has a closeup view of a working harbor, which I found fascinating. Host was friendly and helpful; made me feel at home right away.
Immaculate room: clean carpet, pristine bathroom, brand-new spiffy subcompact kitchen, good window blinds, and very quiet at night, no noisy heater/fan (yay!). If you get lucky, a freight train will roar by, just a stone's throw away from your back window, hauling coal down from the distal end of Cape Breton and through the interesting waterway. Freight trains in the night have always been cool, so I count this as a bonus. DRAWBACKS : Very spartan furnishings. There is no inner door lock to prevent somebody with a key from entering, so carry your preferred security device. Poor lighting: One simple overhead fixture and at the bedside, a small, very bright, non-dimmable light. Great maybe for (very) minor surgery; not so good for ambiance. Glitchy hower controls. MORE GOODIES: Easy peasy wifi connection and--did I mention?--probably first runner-up in my personal competition for world's most comfortable motel bed. One last thing: As I write this, in March 2025, these rooms appear to be brand, spankin' new. Hopefully, mom&pop will keep the place in good shape, and hopefully, guests will take care of it too. It's a gem!
