Stay in a traditional, authentic fisherman's house right in the old harbour of Port-en-Bessin.
This cosy, 5-level house is ideally located just behind the main street.
Start your day with a dip in the sea (small beach within 100 m!) and get some fresh croissants or a baguette. There's a daily fish market, where you can buy fish, shellfish or lobster, fresh from the sea.
End your day with a glass of wine in the harbour.
The daily ritual of the arrival of the fishing boats is a wonderful sight.
Port-en-Bessin is located in the heart of the world-famous D-day landing beaches. The harbour town was also visited by many famous artists, including Seurat. Port-en-Bessin was an important link between the world-famous beaches Omaha Beach and Pointe du Hoc.
There are still many things to see here that remind of the Allied advance, like various wrecks from the war. The town was a film location for the film 'The longest Day', among others. You couldn't find a more central location for a visit to the museums and invasion beaches.
The medieval town of Bayeux (9 km) is just a 10-minute drive away. It offers many sights (a beautiful cathedral, famous 'Tapisserie de Bayeux' museums) and a very nice city centre.
End your day with a glass of wine in the harbour. The daily ritual of the arrival of the fishing boats is a wonderful sight.
