"Very relaxing stay next to the lagoon but also an easy walk to the beach. Only one restaurant was open aged that was on the beach so a bit of a trek when it rained. My room looked out on to a corridor which wasn’t ideal and the sealant around bathroom fittings was black with mildew. But largely these are minor details to a comfortable and relaxing stay at a fair price."

"I left my heart in Talalla Retreat. Incredible staff who were so welcoming and hard working, the Retreat itself is stunning. I had an upstairs bedroom so was able to fully enjoy the surroundings. The food was incredible. I felt super safe. I didn’t want to leave. A must visit - and please do as the Sri Lankan people need visitors right now. "

"We arrived there after a 5 hr drive to find it closed, actually more like abandoned. There was no one working there much less staying there. Luckily we found a beautiful place down the beach. Very disheartening that Expedia would take bookings for a place that’s not even open. Worst of it is that even after we notified Expedia you can still book it !!"

"A beautiful property especially if you take the Villas, the beach is public but it was the best beach for our young children to swim in. The food provided at the public beach is some of the best we had. "

"The Cabanas was very spacious and nice. There is NO hot water for a shower which is not mentioned in the posting. There is not a separate "sitting area." The cabana is in a beautiful setting but you have to take a Tuk Tuk to town. It is next door to a restaurant. The breakfast is the traditional Sri Lankan Breakfast. Please note that they do not accept credit cards (which is poor) so you have to pay in local currency."

"Resort is on very quiet beach, with minimum other resorts around, which is great if you want to switch off and relax! You will forget what day it is and that was what we were Looking for. Specious rooms with huge balconies, pool with view to ocean, bar and great breakfasts."

"The staff was amazing the chef made some of the best food I have ever tasted!! He was very sweet and very involved in all aspects of the villas. "The place is situated close by all the relevant beaches, especially Hiriketiya and Nilwella beach. It is about 10-15 minutes to get to hiriketiya road where most of the shops/resturants are. Its calm and tranquil at this place, away from the busy scene at hiriketiya road yet not to far to get there when you want. Space to park if u have tuk tuk, scooter etc. The rooms are cozy and clean. "I absolutely loved the Emerald Bay Resort in Mirissa! The manager and hotel staff were exceptional—warm, welcoming, and always ready to help. The hotel is in a fantastic location, just a short and easy six-minute walk to the stunning beaches. Our room was beautiful, comfortable, and perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The staff always greeted us with a smile and went above and beyond, even preparing a delicious breakfast for our early 5:00 AM safari. The food was fabulous, and the hospitality made our stay even more special. This is truly a wonderful hotel with an outstanding team—highly recommend! "

Handagedara Stay

"Lovely hotel with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Located a few minutes from the beach and lots of lovely restaurants. Rooms are a great size. Only negative was a very noisy peacock living close by, but we had ear plugs so it didn't disrupt our stay. Great breakfast with lots to choose from. "

Deep clean required as a matter of urgency

"The room requires a deep clean. Dirty floor mats, water timescale marks all around the shower and window. Privacy blind had mould growing on it. Sink requires timescale and bleach as plug area smelt unpleasant. Air conditioning required some overdue maintenance or replacement as it was so loud even with the terrace doors closed. Very loud music could be easily heard in the room until 5am. Breakfast area had a fly problem and need to be addressed urgently as unhygienic. "
