Tranquil Rurally Located Old Former Farmhouse with Private Garden & Sun Terrace

The gite sits between what used to be two farmhouses, all built from granite with oak beams, the first house believed to date back to before the 17th century. The Gite was originally housing for the animals, and faces what was originally old granite stables. The Gite has recently benefited from updating, with a new kitchen, gas hob, electric oven and fridge. It is tastefully furnished in a traditional French farmhouse style, & has solid antique beds, exposed beams & plenty of character. As the walls are thick granite, the Gite stays nice & comparatively cool on very hot days. The balcony terrace to the front is the perfect place to sit & enjoy breakfast, lunch or supper, as the whole property faces south & benefits from day long sunshine. There is a private garden for the gite, which is shown in the photos. There is also a patio with wooden table and chairs and sunbeds. There are 2 grand Cypress trees at the entrance of the drive, which leads out to the main paddock area, beyond that mature oaks lead down the hill to the tranquil river.

We were comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. Very nice outside space for our own use. The gite is within 40 minutes from the beach and other attractions with quiet French “B” roads and pretty countryside.

Peaceful, scenic Brittany
The gite owners were very welcoming and helpful throughout. It was situated in a very peaceful rural situation. It was beautifully furnished with some antique pieces, but a good modern bathroom and kitchen area. Also a nice garden for our enjoyment. Local amenities were very good too. The lovely ancient buildings in local towns were picturesque and interesting and the sea side brilliant. Our only reservation occured when we found the local chateaux offered less than those we had experienced in the Loire. Just one note regarding the gite was that the stairs were rather steep for people who might have an issue with mobility. Overal our experience was very good indeed. CCW. Nottinghamshire.

An excellent base for a quiet holiday
A beautiful property in a lovely rolling, rural landscape, an ideal base for exploring Brittany. Even for two adults, the company of three cats, and a lovable dog made it feel like home! The owners, Karen and Mark, couldn't have been more helpful, and Karen's emails were very welcoming throughout the process of booking and in the days leading up to our holiday. Good accommodation and well-equipped.

The Perfect Peaceful Getaway
We had the most wonderful 7 days in this perfect and peaceful gite. The property was everything (and more) that you could ask for, comfortable, clean and homely. Karen and Mark made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived, fantastic hosts, nothing was too much trouble and they were always on hand to offer advice on places to visit or eat. We would definitely recommend this property in an outstandingly beautiful area and without doubt expect to be returning ourselves. Paul and Annette June 2018

A homely quiet retreat in beautiful countryside
Life here was not complicated thanks to Mark's help in finding our way around. The best part of our holiday was relaxing by the cottage with views of hillsides and the sound of birds. nearly all shopping could be done in the local village (1 mile). Visits to near-deserted beaches north of Erquy in warm sunshine were fabulous. Perhaps the highlight of our week was spending 4 hours at the annual Fete de Pain in the old village, where we were transported back 50 years or more to the old ways of breadmaking and farming along with hundreds of locals..... and enjoyed a hog roast meal! In short, this was everything we wanted (and needed after a difficult year) in a break.

You won't regret it for 1 minute!
We stayed 2 weeks in gîte 'Les Écuries' and we didn't regret 1 minute of it: a very fantastic holiday it was. Harriet and Mark welcomed us as 'the Guinea pigs' because we were the first guests since they took over the property last October (due to the corona crisis). You would not say so, though, we consider them already as 'superhost'! A warm welcome and a helping hand when and where we needed it, who could ask for more? An example? Our friends did not have their bicycles like we did, so Harriet lended her fabulous electric bike 'Kalkhoff' for a great trip along the 'Voie Verte' to the Abbaye of Bon Repos. Too much sun and the parasol was opened by Mark. A little failure of the equipment, it was fixed in the blink of an eye. In the former (horses') stable the young swallows kept an eye on our materials (shoes, bicycles) and twittered at every entry. While reading our book on the comfortable garden seats we observed not less than 5 birds of prey spinning around in the sky above our heads: kestrel, hobby, buzzard, hawk and sparrowhawk. You are in the heart of nature in 'Les Écuries' ! For great outdoor activities we took the boat to 'Les Sept Îles' for the colony of gannets and to Île de Bréhat for a great walk on this romantic flower island (agapanthus!). Those who love sculptures go to the castle of Kerguéhennec. And we also biked along the canal Nantes-Brest to Josselin, a beautiful small medieval town. Many things to do but you will certainly not to get bored when you organise your holiday in 'Les Écuries' with Harriet and Mark. Don't hesitate, even in corona times, but book now!

Danke Bretagne

A beautiful place to relax in a central location.
We found the house as described in the ad. It lies quiet, but not isolated, in the beautiful hilly landscape of Brittany. From the terrace one has a wide view into the country, at the same time the plant and the garden offer sufficient protection from possibly too curious views. The street at the house is rarely used. Shopping and fueling facilities are available in Plouguenast (5 minutes by car). Larger errands can be done in Loudéac (15 - 20 minutes). There is also a weekly market. When going on excursions, it should be noted that the travel times to the beaches, for example, are slightly longer than those in the advertisement. However, the location is so central that almost every destination in Brittany can be reached within a day trip of max. 2 hours (e.g. Rennes approx. 1.25 hours, Paimpol approx. 1 hour, Vannes approx. 1.25 hours). Different beaches between St.-Brieuc and Paimpol between 45 - 60 minutes. Unfortunately we only met Mark and not Karen personally. But the reception was very nice and informal. There was a nice welcome present so that we felt right at home. Mark was very helpful and gave us tips for excursions and sightseeing (even in his absence). Many thanks again! All in all it was one of the most beautiful and relaxed holidays we ever had. Best regards from Germany, Alexandra, Björn, Marieke and Miriam
