Great little house
We spent a week at this cabin in September. We found it to be just as advertised and very clean and comfortable. A wonderful place to get away from it all.

Fantastic time at Hasting's Mesa in the San Juan Mountains
My wife and daughter and I stayed in this amazing cabin from July 6-14 of this year (2013). What a great place. The location is outstanding, beautiful meadows and fabulous surrounding mountains. But the cabin is the priceless gem of the trip. Decorated beautifully, and perfectly suited and fitted for the Colorado Rockies. We enjoyed mornings out on the porch drinking our tea and reading, soaking in the surrounding splendor. The sleeping situation is very comfortable, and the kitchen is perfect for whatever needs cooking. My wife and daughter made sure we enjoyed our meals! We had many - many elk all around the cabin. And their was a doe with her few days old fawn staying right off of the porch! We got to know them well. So much to do in the area. We are hikers and took hikes every day. Blue Lakes and Blaine Basin were two of our favorites. Fun times too in Ridgway, Telluride (even the farmer's market) and Quray. Even Montross and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison were in easy driving distance. Joanna made things so easy for us in our reservations and even after our stay. She was thoughtful and considerate, and we greatly were assisted by the info she passed along. We would highly recommend this great cabin. Bruce McDonald (for Bev and Jessica)

Everything promised and more!
Charm flows from every room. Warm and inviting, loving details, wonderfully appointed.....elk symphonies, hummingbird dramas, beaver pond intrigue....what are you waiting for! We left refreshed and a hint sad to leave what we came to call our little slice of the Shire....

Magnificent!
This property is beautiful beyond words. My boyfriend and I cannot wait to go back. The house itself is a work of art. The mountain setting is spectacular. It is clear from the moment you walk in that it was built by woodwork and nature aficionados. The millwork is finery. The east facing (sunrise) porch and west facing (sunset) back deck were staples of each day we were there. We loved waking up to a view of the mountain from bed. The kitchen was a joy to cook in and the low light dining room made for intimate meal times. The oversized tub is lovely, with plenty of hot water. If you are a newbie to solar, you may be amazed like us that there was no perceptible difference from a wired house. It was so quiet, private and peaceful. The hosts were readily accessible and pleasant to interact with I just cannot say enough good things about it. Really, I can't.

Magnificent!
I cannot possibly rave enough about this property. It was simply the most luxurious place I have ever stayed. The house itself is exquisite. The attention to detail in the design and construction -- clearly the product of woodwork and nature aficionados. So much finery -- the east facing (sunrise) porch to the west facing (sunset) deck, waking to a mountain view from the bed downstairs, the oversized tub (with plenty of hot water), the kitchen with quality cookware and well laid out space perfect for a person who loves to cook and entertain with food, intimate dining in dimmed light... I could go on and on. Outside was a dream, too. So very private and spectacular. The hosts were readily available and easy to communicate with. The whole thing made for a truly wonderful time for my boyfriend and me. We absolutely cannot wait to go again.

Perfect mountain getaway!
Our family (and dog) loves our stay! The setting is absolutely gorgeous from every angle. We loved the remoteness and enjoyed the peace and beauty of the outdoors. Ridgway and Telluride are easy drives away. Cabin was clean, stocked and host was so nice and communicative. Highly recommend this wonderful cabin for a perfect mountain getaway!!

An Amazing Home Base For A Vacation of Adventure or Relaxation
This home is well-appointed, clean, and beautifully constructed. With a convenient and beautiful location between Ouray and Telluride this was the perfect base camp for tons of hiking and cycling in the area. However, If you are looking for a vacation of peace and quiet off the grid, it certainly fits the bill for that as well. We were traveling with my in-laws and they made several comments about it being the nicest vacation rental they had stayed in. I'd agree and can't recommend enough.

Just What We Needed
This little piece of paradise was just what we needed as an escape from our crazy world. We had no idea when we booked it how much we would be needing and wanting this time away from the rest of the world. The house was beautiful, with everything we could need. We enjoyed cooking as a family, and evenings on the patio. We loved hearing the wildlife, and I enjoyed the bathtub every night. The only thing I didn’t expect were the friendly little mice in the yard. They scared the heck out of me at first, when I didn’t know what they were. However, I fully understand that this is expected in a mountain setting. We loved this home, and are so glad to have had a chance to enjoy it.

A hidden Delight!
The house is tucked up a hillside with mountains all around and is such a peaceful retreat that I did not want to leave. My husband and I, with our 12 pound Yorkshire terrier thoroughly enjoyed staying there. The house is decorated with such taste that I enjoyed wandering around and looking at the art. It is equipped with everything you need in the kitchen. There is a large fridge, a gas stove, plenty of pans etc. There is a delightful outside seating area with a swing seat which you can relax in and read a book (which I did and loved hearing the sounds of nature around me). The bed in the downstairs master bedroom was very comfortable. The bathroom to the master bedroom has a very large tub for soaking (which I took advantage of and there was plenty of hot water) and also has a shower for those who don't want to bath. The upstairs bedroom has a shower also so if you are two couples there is no need to share a bathroom. There is also a TV in the upstairs area - we didn't use it as we were too busy going outside on various adventures. There is WiFi in the house that works well, however, no cell service as you are too far out of the way when you are up in those mountains to receive cell service (we have T-mobile). I would recommend renting a 4 wheel drive Jeep if you are flying in. You will want to use it when you do the drive to Telluride, Ouray and other adventure trips you wish to take. The road to the house is a dirt road however it is well maintained . We loved our trip!

Unique house and property
This house was just as pictured...very clean and unique. It was well-stocked with essentials, and the pots and pans were high quality. The owner e-mailed me shortly before our stay began with updated information. I appreciated the communication. The location was lovely, and we enjoyed having our coffee on the patio in the morning and seeing the beautiful sunsets over the mountains at night.

What an amazing house! This was the first time in a long time our family got to go on vacation together. We had a great time exploring the outdoors, spending time inside playing games and being off the grid. We were able to reconnect and had many adventures. Thank you for sharing your home.

The perfect summer getaway!
Everything about this cabin is perfect! Location is perfect for driving to all the small towns for day trips Telluride, Ridgway, Ouray, and Montrose. We went hiking, Jeeping and ATVing during the day and came home to cook dinner in the amazing kitchen and relaxed under the stars! The cabin is just off an amazing dirt road that leads you through the mountains down to Telluride! With 360 degree views of the Rocky Mountains everyday I cried when we left. The owners are welcomeing and friendly making sure we had everything we needed. This a must stay if you want to experience the peaceful mountain environment and wildlife!

Ideal home in secluded ranch-like area
Seriously, don't look for another place to stay. This is the best place in the area. This beautiful off-the-grid home is ideal for anyone looking to get away from it all. We stayed here (family of 4) for almost one week and as soon as we left I wanted to go back (actually I didn't want to leave!). The home is super clean with the perfect layout...open kitchen, private, comfortable bedroom, loft for other family members. Actually, as another reviewer pointed out..this home could be featured in a magazine. Everything you need is here...including great cookware and plenty of space for whatever you bring (clothes/mountain bikes/backpacks). Each day we left to go hiking or in town (to Ridgway or Telluride) we all looked forward to drive to the home...not a soul around except for elk, cattle, kestrels...so much wildlife, so much open space. Such beauty. We loved cooking out on the grill and relaxing after a long day. If you want to be in a busy town, this place isn't for you, but if you want quiet seclusion...look no further. Joanna was great. Would definitely go back and stay longer.

Charming Cabin with Gorgeous Views
My husband, daughters, and I thoroughly enjoyed staying in this cabin. The home is beautifully (belongs in a magazine) and comfortably decorated with beautiful views of the San Juan mountains. The beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen is well stocked and roomy enough for cooking and hanging out. The cabin is very peaceful and private yet an easy and scenic drive to Telluride, Ouray, and Ridgeway. We were here in July, and there were wildflowers everywhere, and we spotted elk grazing in the green meadows along the road. The home is a great place to just relax and read, or there are many activities in the area. We went on several hikes - Blue Lakes was our favorite - and enjoyed many good restaurants in Telluride. We also went horseback riding and white water rafting. It was easy to set up our stay with Joanna, and she quickly answered the few questions we had. I would absolutely recommend this home to others. The only drawback was that I missed the house and the scenery so much when I got back to my own home.

Great Place!
We travel to telluride every year for the 4th of July, we wanted a place away from the crowds, and this place worked out perfectly! Super quiet and private with alot of wildlife activity in the yard and on every drive down Last Dollar Rd. The owners made us feel like guests they have known for years, not to mention unbelievable woodwork happening in the home. Thanks again J&J!

Beautiful, comfortable, peaceful, private retreat

Even better than the pictures
This was an absolutely amazing place to stay--beautiful, isolated, pet-friendly. We stayed with our dog. It's so quiet up here--without all the noise of civilization or even living on a grid. The home was clean and well-maintained; while we were there, we heard from the owners briefly just to make sure that everything was okay. The house itself is beautiful, and the pictures don't do justice to how lovely the space is. So often owners of these properties use fish-eye lenses to exaggerate the size; this house felt so much bigger than the pictures looked. The kitchen is huge and well-appointed; the house is bright with natural light, and replete with details that make it feel like home. The internet access was a bonus--but as a warning, if you have to do work that requires you to be online constantly, if an afternoon thunderstorm rolls in, you might be interrupted. But you don't go to a place like this is you HAVE to have internet access. All in all, I would definitely come here again. An absolutely amazing home.

Italian Farmhouse meets the Rockies
My wife and I hadn't been back to Telluride since our honeymoon several years ago. Therefore, to spend just over a week on Hastings Mesa was perfect. I had handled finding a place to rent and she wanted to be suprised so she never looked at any of the pictures. So when we pulled up, she was so happy with what she saw. The setting is amazing and the attention to detail with the house made it that much better. We both agreed that it seemed like an Italian farmhouse meets the Rockies. It is also worth noting how clean it was and we are both, self-admittedly, a bit obsessive about those things. We timed our trip with Bluegrass and given the property is out of Telluride about 40-ish minutes, we knew were were going to do some bluegrass, some biking and a whole lot of relaxing. The average day was either popping into Telluride or Ridgway...or if we felt like doing nothing, we would hang out and play some music, lounge around on the patio, bbq and occasionally get some logs going in the fireplace. Ridgway is a great place to get groceries and if you feel like getting a bite to eat, it is only about 20 minutes away. In addition, you get to take a look at the edge of Ralph Lauren's estate as you drive into town. The size of the estate and scenery is pretty impressive! We mainly cooked at the house, but on our way out of town [via Ridgway] we stopped at Kate's place and found out they cook breakfast all day. The service and food were great. Unfortunately, I still needed to get some work done while there and the wifi worked perfectly. Fortunately, we didn't have much luck with cell reception directly at the house...but that is what made the house even better. There is a booster for Verizon (I believe), but I never cared to check. If you can't leave the cell addiction at home, you can always drive down the road a bit, but I think most people will find it pretty refreshing. So outside of groceries, beer and wine...you never need to leave as everything else is provided. If you are curious about the setting, just look at the opening title shots of the original 1969 True Grit movie. Just beyond the homestead is the road to the property. It is a special place! Last, but not least, Joanna is great to work with. The description of the property is very accurate and it couldn't have worked out better. She has a listing of contacts in case anything popped up, but nothing did. With that said, thank you for sharing your home! We'll definitely be back! Cheers!
