It was important to us to minimize our footprint in these pristine hills while building our dream home, and we couldn't be happier with what we accomplished on this front. You can expect to enjoy a full solar array, which charges onsite batteries daily, as well as your own water well, which supplies 100% of the property's water.
Guest Access:
It's pretty simple, our home is yours during your stay! Please note that there is an exterior shed and storage closet that are locked that house supplies for the rental.
The Neighborhood:
In 1946, Pioneertown was founded by a group of Hollywood investors, including actors Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. They dreamed of creating an Old West set 125 miles east of Los Angeles that was actually a town worth visiting, with 1880s-style false-front facades but interiors that had stuff for visitors to see and do too. Up went (from the outside) frontier stables, saloons, and jails; inside, they housed ice cream parlors, bowling alleys, and motels. It wasn’t a place just for tourists to enjoy though; more than 50 films and television shows were filmed here in the 1940s and ‘50s.
While location shoots here have dwindled in the years since, you can still see mock gunfights on Mane Street. But the most happening place by far is Pappy and Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace, which hosts surprisingly big-name live acts—Robert Plant and Leon Russell have played here, and more contemporary bands like Iron & Wine and CHVRCHES pass through as well. This must-see desert find also serves up awesome ribs, plus classic Santa Maria barbecue, burgers, sandwiches, and salads. Check out their calendar of upcoming events.
Though it’s always been a destination for those in the know, in recent years the town has been experiencing something of a renaissance—artists, entrepreneurs, and just regular folks looking to escape city stress are finding their way here. Longtime standby the Pioneertown Motel, a rustic, single-story 20-room inn, has been updated with fire pits, an outdoor bar, and hammocks; it and La Copine, an upscale eatery in nearby Flamingo Heights are contributing to the area’s newfound reputation as a hip getaway.
Below are travel times to nearby shops, bars, eateries and attractions:

Getting Around:
There are a few different options when driving into The Glass Cabin. We highly recommend traveling from Interstate 10 to CA Route 62 / Twenty Nine Palms Highway. This will bring you in via Yucca Valley, CA whereby you make your turn onto Pioneertown Road into Pioneertown. There are alternative routes that can bring you down from Big Bear California down on mountain roads, but this is recommend for seasoned off-road drivers with off-road vehicles.
Other Things to Note:
Please be advised:
Hot Tub Service:
The hot tub is serviced every Friday between 11am and 4pm, just so you are aware our technician will be there to treat it around that time. Please note that these times are estimates and may change slightly due to our technician's busy schedule and the remote location of The Glass Cabin. He will not approach the house but will go directly through to the hot tub area.
Road Conditions:
Please note, Joshua Tree and Pioneertown are about as close to the wilderness as we get here in California. Many of the roads in these communities are dirt and will require you to take it very slow, especially after inclement weather. At The Glass Cabin, it is only the last 3.6 miles of this journey that is on a dirt road specifically. While a four-wheel drive car is absolutely not required, four-wheel drive is recommended, if possible, simply for peace of mind.
*Please be advised: Road conditions may be impassable at certain times due to weather conditions, especially during stormy winter months. We will work to communicate up-to-date road conditions with guests as they change.*
Cell Service:
You may not be surprised to hear that cell reception and quality may be limited in the High Desert, especially in the more remote areas of Pioneertown, Joshua Tree, and Pipes Canyon. Fear not, The Glass Cabin is outfitted with the latest generation technology from Starlink satellite, which offers lightning-fast upload and download speeds (150-250 Mbps). Be sure to enable Wi-Fi calling on your phone or consider downloading a VOIP program.
Groceries & Supplies:
Your closest shopping will be back in Yucca Valley, so please show up prepared! It will not be a quick trip to grab that something you forgot.
Mother Nature:
The charm of beautiful Pioneertown also means you may get up and personal with mother nature during your stay with us. While interactions with snakes and other critters are rare, it is important to be mindful and to stay on paths whenever possible.
Exterior Cameras:
We have cameras to monitor the exterior of our home only. There are no cameras inside or in any private areas of the exterior home, such as the hot tub. Any attempt at disabling, redirecting or obscuring the cameras is prohibited and will result in full forfeiture of the security deposit and may, at the owner’s discretion, result in the guest being evicted without refund of outstanding nights’ payment.
Firewood for Indoor Fireplace:
We provide complimentary firewood and fire starters for the indoor fireplace for your convenience.
Outdoor Tub & Outdoor Shower:
These amenities are disabled during the winter months to prevent freezing and damage to water pipes.
Interaction with Guests:
The Glass Cabin is professionally managed by Copper Moon Management. The team at Copper Moon Management is ready to assist you around the clock.
