Property was exactly what I was looking for 18th century Italian farmhouse with a pool and property beautiful property around the houses.
We experienced nearby towns and found time to relax around the pool.
Property manager was responsive and flexible with all of our questions and requests.
Would stay there again.
What an amazing place to stay. The villa and the apartments were lovely with stunning gardens and pool. Everything we needed was provided and communication with Ben the host was excellent. I would return in a heartbeat!
Borhgetto Calcinaia was the perfect location for my 50th birthday celebration. Ben, the house manager, and Dale were responsive and helpful throughout the reservation process and stay. We enjoyed several days by the pool, had a chef come to the house and prepare dinner, and ventured out to the many small, historic communities nearby.
A family stay for one week with friends and we loved every piece of it! There was plenty of room and then some for 4 adults and 6 kids and the large kitchen was fully equipped for serving any kind of meal (+ a barbeque for outside use). The pool was as good as advertised, kids were there from early morning til late night, and the herb garden and the lavender bush at the outside dining area were a pleasant-smelling surprise. If you want a quiet and undisturbed vacation but still with modern facilities this is the place for you.
Our extended family (3 generations) spent two weeks in July at Borghetto Calcinaia, and we are so grateful we did. It was the perfect sanctuary to beat the heat of the summer and escape the crowds in Tuscany.
We relished the gorgeous views of the lake and surrounding countryside, enjoyed swimming in the pool every day of our stay, and delighted in star gazing at night upon a sky unobstructed by city lights.
The houses are all very comfortable, very clean, and spacious. When not at the pool or exploring charming nearby villages, we passed time chatting in the large comfortable living room or in the outdoor dining area. The kitchen was well-equipped with everything we needed. The host facilitated a catered birthday celebration meal at the Borghetto, which was amazingly prepared by Chef Monica and her team.
While sad to have to leave, we are so grateful for the opportunity to experience Borghetto Calcinaia and the surrounding less touristy part of Tuscany. Many thanks to Ben and Dale for facilitating our stay! We hope we can return again one day.
Just spent a week at Boghetto Calciniai with nine other family members ranging in age from 21 to 82. Overall, an exceptional property. Large, clean,, great location , and fabulously beautiful setting. Ben was accessible when needed and helped us local restaurants and other points of interest. He also helped us find a local chef who prepared two fabulous dinners for us on site. highly recommend this villa!
The property and surrounds are stunningly beautiful! Wonderful spaces and gathering spots; the kitchen has everything imaginable ( 2 refrigerators came in handy) . We really loved gathering around the lovely , huge outdoor table. Dale and Ben were responsive, delightful and entertaining communicators. We were also impressed with the detail and high quality of the House Book. This is a quieter side of Tuscany, with so much to explore. Only downside: Our time was too short!
My husband and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at this beautiful villa with our three children, their spouses and our 5 grandchildren. Our stay could not have been more perfect. The view is too amazing for photos to capture - so many places to sit with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and enjoy the natural beauty. The property manager, Ben, was very responsive to questions or problems. (We did have one maintenance problem during our stay, but it was fixed within hours). And the area was surrounded by small towns and villages to visit with markets and restaurants. We typically ate out one meal each day and prepared remaining meals in the well equipped kitchen. Ben helped us arrange for a local chef, Monica, to prepare a four course dinner at the house on the evening of our anniversary - a wonderful experience . Our grandchildren loved the pool and the surrounding (fenced in) property for exploring and playing. Three generations of our family will treasure the memories we have from our week as guests at Pieve Santo Stefano. We highly recommend it.

Mozzafiato
Our family of twelve including five grandchildren ages 5, 3, 2, and two babies spent a magical week at Borghetto Calcinaia in April. We lived in Italy some years back and have traveled the country extensively and can say with certainty that the vista from the Borghetto Calcinaia is one of the most breathtaking we've encountered. Every detail of the property exceeded our expectations from the surrounding area, the estate, and the gracious hosts, Dennis and Gilly.
When reminiscing about our trip to friends we describe Borghetto Calcinaia as Shangri-La and can't wait to return.
Many thanks to Dennis and Gilly who helped make our trip so memorable.
Grazie mille!

Rustic cob-webbed filled Villa
The Villa was not up to my standard. It was too basic and not properly cleaned. The pool was broken and all during our 13 days stay it was not fix and thus not fit for us to use. But, a frog made good use of it.
I real feeling I did not get my money's worth. So this is to warn guests who want a little bit of modern sophistication, like a microwave oven and a dishwasher, this villa does not provide either. Also, the beds were very uncomfortable.
That's my review.
The description of the houses/property, with the photos, was extremely accurate. The organization of the sleeping areas and bathrooms was perfect for our group, a mixture of friends and family. The beds were all really comfortable, according to comments from everyone who slept there in different beds. We really used the outside areas a lot since we were there in a heatwave. The pool is large enough to really swim laps ... not always the case with rental vacation houses. The kitchen is extremely well-stocked. (The description says there is a microwave in. each house, but in fact there wasn't one in the main house kitchen. This wasn't really a problem for us, however.) The house manager Ben was extremely responsive!
We had the great pleasure of staying at the Borghetto Calcinaia for a week with family and friends. It was a holiday that was postponed by the pandemic (twice) but the owners were very kind and understanding. In the lead-up to, and during our entire stay, Ben Mullens patiently answered all of our questions and assisted us with all our needs. He was very attentive and gracious.
The property is off the main road and surrounded by lovely rolling hills and a view of the lake. We had ten adults and two small children and everyone was comfortably accommodated at the property. It was a perfect venue with a variety of bedrooms and private annexes that offered great flexibility including both communal and private spaces. We enjoyed meals around the large dining table and outside on the terrace. The wonderful pool was especially popular in the summer heat. We were close to several towns that provided all that we needed and interesting sites to visit.
We can recommend Borghetto Calcinaia with enthusiasm. We had a lovely time, as did all our friends and family in attendance.
The property is truly remarkable. The views of the lake are exceptional and there is a large garden with herbs you can use for cooking , the pool is large and stays very clean and the grounds are very well manicured, a large lavender field which you can walk through via carved paths is especially wonderful. The houses are very clean and even though there is no AC it stays cool with fans. The bathrooms are all updated and every room is comfortable, clean beautiful and unique. The kitchen is exceptional. We cooked in it for 6 nights for 8 people and had everything we needed in terms of cook ware. A large outdoor eating area is wonderful on the side of the house. This truly is a gem. The closest largish town anghiri is only a 15min drive and has a butcher and a outdoor market (once a week) with also 4 or 5 excellent small restaurants and there are larger supermarkets within 20minutes. The house is secluded but really is within a hr of major sites if you wish to visit. Nothing negative to report, it’s a wonderful property exactly as advertised and exceeded our expectations. We stayed with 8 adults and two children and had 3 bedrooms that remained empty so this property could comfortably fit more. Ben is a seasoned progressional property manager and made check in and check out painless and was available to answer questions throughout our stay.
Our group of three families (3 couples and 6 kids, ages 10-19) loved our stay at this beautiful Tuscan villa and would highly recommend. The owner, Dale, was responsive to all of our pre-arrival questions, and the property manager, Ben, was there at arrival and available as needed during the week, answering all inquiries promptly by email or phone. Dale and Ben helped arrange for a chef to cook for our group one night and shared many helpful tips regarding local wineries and areas of interest. There are so many places to visit and wonderful restaurants in the nearby towns, but kitchen is also well appointed and it was also fun to cook on our own with fresh ingredients from the local markets. It may be hard to believe, but the property is even more beautiful in person than in the photos. The buildings have many historic details and are full of character, and the setting is simply stunning. The pool was a highlight, especially for the kids, as the weather was quite hot the week we were in Italy, but the rooms all had good air circulation at night and were quite comfortable for sleeping. The two smaller dwellings were well furnished and spacious, allowing the group to spread out and have more privacy, but were close enough to not feel isolated. Each bedroom in the large house had its own full bathroom, which was a big plus. The gardens are well maintained with fruit trees, olive trees, lavender, and numerous other flowers. Some in our group also made good use of the yoga pavilion in the mornings, and we had wonderful views of the stars at night. Thank you for an unforgettable week!

Phenomenal experience!! Everything we hoped for and more!!!
From my initial inquiry emails this villa stood out from the rest. Dennis was quick to respond, informative and warm. While having traveled to Italy before, this was my first time renting a villa and I took my time searching through many options in the Tuscan region. Without question we picked the very best option. Besides the villa that is more beautiful than the pictures show, Dennis and Gilly's hospitality and small touches really set the experience apart. They had a welcome basket for us and had stocked the refrigerator with the basic supplies that we needed on arrival. After a long flight, train and driving, not to mention a few wrong turns this was greatly appreciated. The welcome glass of Prosecco was a very nice way to settle in and begin our trip. Dennis has a wealth of knowledge of the area his advice on restaurants and sightseeing is spot on. I highly recommend "Vosco's" for Sunday lunch! Instead of merely giving us instructions, Dennis led us through the winding roads and introduced us to the family before we sat down for one of the best (and most filling) meals I have had. The "blue book" they have made up with information on the area had more than enough to information to fill a two-week stay. Dennis and Gilly really thought through the stay and had the small things covered. For example, not only having a bbq grill, but also charcoal and lighter. To me, these small preparations are indicative all the thought that went in to the overall experience. On the night of our arrival Gilly prepared a delicious 5 course meal of from a menu that we had arranged. It was absolutely fantastic and I can think of no better way to settle into our stay. Dennis also arranged a local Chef team (Linda and Nadia) to come a make a meal and do a pasta making lesson. For our family that has a few "chefs" of our own, this was very memorable and delicious.
The villa it's self has stunning views. The quality of the remodel is to a very high standard. The interior appointments maintain the charm of this 300 year old farm house, with no sacrifice of modern comforts. It is in the countryside so one definitely needs a car. The smaller of out rental cars scrapped on the short dirt road leading to the villa, but nothing dangerous. We took day trips to Chianti and Florence, but mainly stayed in the area and explored the small towns nearby. Angihari alone is picturesque with many options for shopping and dining. Many thanks to D&G we'll certainly return!!
Beautiful property nestled in the Tuscan countryside
Loved our time at Borghetto Calcinaia. We enjoyed the pool, views of the lake, the gardens, the nearby towns. Ben was very helpful and we were delighted to have food at the house when we arrived. The property had everything we needed and it's very comfortable. Can't wait to return!
