Built in the 1920s by the artist and embroiderer Ann Macbeth, High Bield is a remarkable house which was completely refurbished a few years ago. It was built high on the fell and takes in views of Brotherswater and Ullswater and offers walking from the door to High St, Helvellyn, St Sunday Crag, Fairfield and many other popular spots. Almost every room has a spectacular view, especially the twin room which was originally an artist's studio. The house oozes charm and is very comfortable and warm, with a woodburner in the sitting room.

Great location, don’t be put off by long drive to cottage, it’s well worth it. Loads of walks and boat trips, easy drive to Ambleside and Grasmere. Loved it, just loved it.
This was our third time staying here and we absolutely love it. It has beautiful views, amazing walks without having to take the car, well equipped kitchen. It is just perfect and we will be back again!
An amazing week over from NZ. The location was perfect, the house incredible well equipped with wonderful views and comfy rooms. Will definitely be recommit friends
Great stay in a quieter area of the lakes.
Magnificent views all around the property. Lots of walks nearby.
Nice and cosy property especially with the log burner. Comfy beds and everything you would need for a relaxing few days away.
We enjoyed the beautiful area. The cottage is in a beautiful location with a view of lakes and mountain ridges. There are several hiking trails in the area where you can also walk with children. We had some questions during our stay and they were answered quickly. There are quite a lot of things in the cottage, so it takes some puzzling where you can put your own groceries, for example.
Lovely warm house in a very quiet area of the lakes. Stunning views.
The drive up to the house is very bumpy, so if you have a low car, I wouldn't even risk it.
We will be returning in the future.
We loved our stay at High Bield. The house was comfortable, well equipped and warm. It was in a really quiet location and close to lots of places of interest. We are already planning a return trip.
High Bield was exactly what we were looking for--elevated property overlooking the pristine valley with privacy and seclusion and the opportunity to walk out of the door and onto the Fells. The owner is attentive and responsive and we received exactly what was promised on the tin. Can't wait to stay there again.
Perfect location for walking. Wonderful views from the house. Well equipped house with every needed to make a comfortable stay.
Highly recommend this place, will definitely be back!
Perfect bolt-hole for anyone who loves the great outdoors, with stunning views across Brotherswater and Ullswater. Lovely and clean, well furnished with thoughtful additions to make you feel at home. We'll definitely be back!
High Bield is a fabulous place to stay and wake up each day with breathtaking views of the valley. It is well located and despite the lakes being very busy it didn’t feel like it here. The house is well stocked with all the annoying things that other properties sometimes aren’t. We would definitely recommend staying here.
Lovely few days away with family
The house was clean and well equipped with cooking equipment and entertainment..
The house was a little hard to find ..its well up off the road side .. and a bit of a off road drive ,, but well worth it
would definitely go back
