Natural wonders and recreation on the Bay
I have enjoyed stays in vacation homes over many summer trips. This is the first one where I feel like I could happily return. It's not home, but it was a personal place of comfort and peace.
My spouse enjoyed the beauty of the place, especially the sunsets over the Chesapeake Bay.
My youngest teen wanted to try to catching and preparing her dinner. On night two, we had traps, bait, and an industrial stockpot courtesy of our hosts which we used to catch and cook our dinner. There was also fishing gear in the barn, but we didn't have time to use it.
Our middle daugher was entranced on the third night by stars visible the dark skies overhead as we caught sight of the annual Perseids.
On our last night, we went out with our oldest daughter in three of the many kayaks on the property. We explored the marshes and met a couple of watermen plying their trade just outside the marsh.
Never had a chance to meet our hosts, but they live only an hour away if we'd needed them. I had several questions before and during our stay. John was promptly available to answer them by VRBO, text message, and (presumably) by phone if necessary.
Three things guest should be prepared for are:
1. This home is remote, about 20 minutes from Route 13, the main highway on the Virginia Eastern Shore.
2. House wifi is great, but cell coverage is spotty.
3. The property is on a lush salt marsh, so we encountered plenty of biting insects if we went outside unprotected (in August). YMMV as that's seasonal.
