Maine Summer Lake House on Bald Head Island

'Eight Is Enough' is the perfect getaway for couples as well as families with children. Stay a week or rent the month (or longer!) if you are a 'snow bird' summering in Maine. During the day, kayak, swim, fish, or just sit on the dock and relax. At night, make s'mores by waters edge, view the Big Dipper from the dock, and listen to the calming sounds of loons and crickets. Dirt roads provide great morning walks or bike rides. Fill your fridge with groceries from notorious Tobey's Market, just 5 miles away. High speed internet, smart TV, DVD's, and board games for entertainment in case of a rainy day.

Tranquility in a Beautiful Setting
“8 is Enough” was well furnished and had comfortable beds and was well appointed and felt “homey”. It is well located on the lake with a wonderful swim platform and dock. There are multiple fire pits and a perfect screened in porch. The Gleason’s were very accommodating and communicative owners and our trip was perfect.

Quiet setting on a beautiful lake
Our family of four had a wonderful time. The lake was warm and the cabin is fantastic. We had everything we needed at the house to enjoy our time there. Plenty of room for everyone to stretch out and relax. We enjoyed the kayaks and paddle board. Perfect week!

Fantastic Lake Front Cottage
This cottage was just what my wife and I were looking for, a peaceful quiet getaway on a beautiful Maine lake. The water here is so clean that you use it to shower. The cottage had everything we needed for a worry free visit. Early morning sunrises, listening to the loons, moonlit nights, kayaking etc............. it was exactly what we needed. We hated to leave and we look forward to our next visit. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful cottage.

Perfect Vacation Place
"Eight is Enough" is the perfect vacation place. My family spent a week there in June. With the layout of the house, there was plenty of room to spread out and not feel cramped. Of course the lake and the dock were big hits. The kids loved fishing on the dock and my nephew loved kayaking. After leaving the hot and humid weather in NC, we spent a lot of time just chilling on the dock and enjoying the beautiful Maine weather. The location of the house was great for day trips. This was the first visit to Maine for us so it was wonderful to be able to explore several towns within a short driving distance. The owner, Keith provided us with all the information we needed for check-in and was great to answer any questions. It was a great vacation week! Louise G.

Amazing retreat on a tranquil lake!
We just returned from our week-long trip at Eight is Enough and couldn’t be happier with our stay. Upon arrival we were immediately impressed-the house was immaculate, the view was stunning and the lake was crystal clear! We had our two little boys with us, aged 3 and 7. They also felt right at home as the house feels quite comfortable. They loved bunking up together in the “Moose Crossing” room and playing in the coves of the “Bear Cave” unearthing old toys from the Gleason kids’ past. The fishing was perfect for our two boys as they didn’t need much patience before something was tugging on the line. We enjoyed canoeing to the beaver damn and to Survivor Island for a pirate’s treasure hunt. We saw plenty of loons and even had a bald eagle sweep down as we lounged on the dock-just amazing! It was hard to leave the lake, but on a rainy day we went to Augusta’s movie theatre which had spacious recliner chairs. Kids loved it. We also headed to Camden for the Mount Megunticook hike and lobster rolls and cold beers at The Waterfront afterwards. They boys loved waving at the big boats as they went by. Belfast was also only an hour away and we loved picking our own lobsters at Young’s Lobster Pound-and we got to bring our own beer to boot! The owner, Keith, was attentive and quickly and patiently replied at all my questions...and I had a lot! :) We would not hesitate to recommend this peaceful, relaxing, and fun retreat to any of our friends and family! Enjoy! You will not be disappointed!

Great Fall trip for our Family
We had such a nice time staying here. It was perfect for our fall getaway! Beautiful foliage, crisp evenings, and plenty to keep us busy with the canoes and kayaks. Even the cold couldn't stop my kids from daring each other to go swimming, and jumping off the dock til their teeth chattered. The house is immaculate, and the kitchen well-stocked for cooking. It's plenty close to convenience stores and towns. I can only imagine how wonderful it would be in the summer.

Gorgeous Fall Getaway
We have been dreaming of Maine in the fall for years, but with school aged kids it’s been a difficult trip to plan. One of the silver linings of 2020 and COVID is that the kids are doing virtual learning and we were able to take them with us to Maine. The cabin is incredibly comfortable and when we walked in the first day the view from the Lakeside Lounge and the Glamping kitchen took our breath away! Our son loved kayaking and just about everything about our stay. Keith is an amazing host and was very responsive if we needed anything at all. Due to the recent drought there was a slight problem with the pump sending water from the lake up to the house. Keith was coincidentally in Maine this past week and was at the Lakehouse within 30 minutes and fixed it. He also treated the whole family to lobster dinner for our very slight inconvenience. He sure puts his guest’s satisfaction at a high priority! Thanks Keith and Heather for sharing this beautiful place with us!

Peaceful oasis.
After our plans to travel to Ireland had to be scratched this Summer. We decided to spend a week in Maine and were extremely lucky to get to stay at Eight is Enough's cottage at Sheepscot Lake. Keith is the most accommodating and helpful host that anyone could imagine. The house is charming, steps to the lake with the cleanest possible water, the location couldn't be any better so peaceful, quiet and tranquil. It's fully equipped with everything you would and need. We caught so may fish loved listening to the loons, the sunsets were amazing I really could go on for days. To top it off we saw a hummingbird as we were leaving the house on our last day and for me that was the icing on the cake as its my favorite bird. So happy our family got to spend quality time together at the most amazing location. Thank you Eight is Enough for sharing your house with us.

Quintessential Maine Camp
After our out-of-state travel plans had to be cancelled, we looked to our home state for a replacement vacation. We were so glad to have found Eight is Enough and Sheepscot Pond. We had never been to a camp in Maine before, but from all I have heard about them, this is exactly what I pictured. The house itself was perfect for our two boys (ages 9 and 5). We really appreciated the little details for the kids like the step stool in the bathroom, plenty of games, and the little beach with a sand box. The lake was warm and clean and we all enjoyed swimming, fishing, and catching glimpses of the loons. The photos in the listing were completely accurate and in some cases don't do the place justice. Keith, the owner, was very responsive and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a true Maine camp experience. We certainly hope to go back again some day.

Unplug from it all and Plug into what matters most.
We live busy lives. Our kids range from 9 to 23. Finding something to suit all of us was going to be a challenge. We wanted a vacation to unplug from schedules, work and wifi! To take in time with family, friends and the beautiful outdoors. No traffic, No internet, No beaches, No crowds! That's exactly what we got. The sun shined upon us on the dock every day. The loons called out and the refreshing lake was inviting. The swimming, fishing, boating, fires with s'mores. I could go on. But most importantly we got to plug in to what matters. Family time. In an environment that made it easy to do. It was a prescription that was filled, so to say. Thank you Maine! Thank you to the Cottage Eight is Enough on Sheepscot that provided EXACTLY what our family needed.

An at-home feel camp with endless opportunities for memories.
I knew it was going to be a great stay when I turned down the road and my child said "Mama... I'm getting really excited!" And covered her mouth, let out a shriek, and eyes sparkled. We will remember our stay at Eight is Enough for the rest of our lives. It is where our 2.5 year old first rode in a canoe, singing "row, row, row, your boat...". It is where she caught her first fish (and was so concerned it was out of the water). It is where she and I shared a first- kayaks! Our family of three enjoyed every moment possible. Keith and Heather have the camp neat, tidy, clean, and set up kid friendly (step stools and gates included!). We are Maine locals, who coincidently live on a lake road, and hope to make this a summer occurrence. There is nothing like saying "good morning" and "good night" to a lake. A couple of side notes: 1- The lakefront is rock, not sand, so leave the sand toys at home! It made me extremely nervous upon arrival but our toddler did fine! 2- Don't just bring one size sheets. You may find you like firmness of a different bed (so! Many choices!)!

Lovely place, second year renting
Really lovely place with a responsive and communicative owner. Southern exposure makes for a good long day on the water. My second year renting this same place with my kids - and nice personal watercraft for us to use to explore the lake and catch some fish. You won't be disappointed!

Perfect week on the lake with family
A lovely and well appointed lake house, appointed with children in mind. Comfortable and just the right amount of rustic with creature comforts built in. Well maintained and clean. The owner is responsive, communicative, and friendly. My favorite room is the screened-in porch. Perfect for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. Enough room for the kids, but privacy for everybody. Swim dock with slide was a hit - and not just for the kids! ;) I've rented many cabins over the years, and this was my favorite.

Perfect in every way
A beautiful and spacious lake house located on the perfect lake for my family. It's equipped with everything you could possibly need. On our first day the boiler broke which was a bummer - but despite being on his own vacation with this family in NH, Keith responded to our call within hours and had a plumber over to fix it with in an hour. This was on a Sunday night too! So we were very grateful and impressed with his response. If you plan to rent on Sheepscott and like the afternoon sun, I can't think of a better house. Just don't rent in early August as that is when we will be renting every year!! :-)

wow! perfect!
I just spent last week at Eight is Enough with my grown children, grandchild and my niece and her family. We are still talking about how wonderful EVERYTHING was. A large part of the excellent experience goes to Keith being an exceptional host and incredibly accommodating and easy to work with. The camp and facilities are perfect for relaxing and having all types of options if you want to be more active, with the swimming raft and boats. Finally, i want to again thank Keith for taking such good care of every detail including ordering perfect weather for the week! If and when we do a camp rental again, Eight is Enough will be our first choice. thank you Keith and family! John Soifer

Fun and relaxation on the lake
We arrived from Switzerland to this gorgeous corner on the water in the woods of central Maine. Gracious, generous and uncomplicated hosts, very well stocked cabin with everything we needed and more, lots of room to play, swim, kayak, and fish. Would come again in a heartbeat!

A Summer's dream for all
A perfect lakeside cabin on Bald Head Island. Getting to experience kayaking, tubing, water skiing with the kids was unforgettable. The sunsets with the loons calling, roasting s'mores and a glass of wine. It doesn't get any better than this. Thank you Eight is Enough for being just what our family needed.

Worth it
A true Maine summer cottage feel, although most of time was spent enjoying the dock and floating dock, especially kids who used the kid slide. Little ones just played for hours on flat rock shoreline. Thanks for use of your kayaks, we explored the cove. Loons swam right near us....priceless memories.

Great Getaway
My daughter and I spent a week at "Eight is Enough" late June. We loved the quaintness of the camp, especially the screen porch, our favorite space. Very spacious, with plenty of sleeping quarters. The natural ledge landscaping down to the water is immaculate. My daughter spent most of her time in the LL Bean Hammock, which overlooks the lake. Kitchen had all the pots/pans/plates etc for in cabin cooking. The cove was quiet all week, only a few boats in and out. No landline phone, no cable, no data wifi was actually a benefit....so we could unplug. (That said, cell reception was fine). Hope we can find time to come back again. M. Bragg

A true Maine Lake experie
The cottage is adorable. It had everything we needed. The lake is beautiful. Its quiet and not crowded at all. The trip up the river is a must by kayak. The bald eagles were teaching their young how to fly. I'll never get that image out of my head. My favorite moment is sunset and listening to the loons. A little treasure.

Large and Comfortable
This property is easy to get to. Once there you won't want to leave. Large, comfortable open concept kitchen, dining, sitting area. The screened-in area adjacent to the sitting area is a great spot to listen to loons and relax with your favorite beverage in the early evening. Lake is clean and quiet. Plan to return as soon as possible!!

Quiet, serene lake stay
Exactly what we wanted...peaceful, relaxing getaway. VERY quiet lake, no major power boats. Almost seemed like we were only ones in the cove. Adirondack chairs on dock was all we needed. Charming cottage. Be Back next year! PS kayaks and canoes and nice bonus.
