We had a great time at this property! The house was in great shape and everything was as it said on the site. The owner was very responsive when we reached out. Can not recommend highly enough! We would definitely stay there again.
Cottage was perfect! Very comfortable and had all the cooking supplies we needed! Older community for sure so glad we had a low key intention for our weekend. The best part was the private beach that only a few others were using at the same time so it felt like we had it all to ourselves! We would absolutely stay here again!
We had a wonderful week! The camp is roomy with a lovely screened porch, all 4 adult sized humans had plenty of space. The lake access is great, short walk away, left our boats and no problems. Def bring in provisions because there isn't a lot close by. Walked for coffee and hanging on the porch of Willoughby store each morning. Parker Pie is great if you're up for a drive to dinner. The Gap is hard to get into, need to go on the earlier side to get seated. Lots of hiking and biking around Willoughby and on Kingdom trails. Dave and his family were great, easy communication and all went smoothly.
Lovely place with screened in porch near Lake Willoughby
The posted pictures and description of the property and lake access are somewhat inaccurate. While the property is across a road from the lake, the pictures make it appear, and the description makes it sound like, the property is closer to the lake than it is. Also, the area of the lake that is not private property and is accessible for people staying in this location is very small. However, the place itself is lovely, well-equipped, very comfortable, and we had a really nice time! We got used to the walk down to the lake and driving to other locations for bigger beach access. All in all, this was a great place - very quiet in the evenings even though there are other houses/cabins nearby. We had a wonderful time exploring the area -- trail heads for both Pisgah, Mount Hor, and the Long Pond trail are very nearby and these are beautiful hikes! There is also an outfitter nearby for kayaking/canoeing on Clyde River!
Clothes and food are all u need to bring to this lovely and comfortable cabin. Everything u might need are already in place …bathroom soaps, shampoos, hair dryer; kitchen soaps, towels, paper products snd cookware. Most condiments and even dog dishes are available. Fans and many window for the warm weather, and a wood stove and electric heater for the cooler weather.
We made puzzles, read, used our computers( with great coverage) on one rainy afternoon…, hiked, sunned on the beach, swam and canoed when the sun came out. Dining out options were enough, lively bar & pub, short order take out, and also a quieter tavern for dinner menu fare.
Loved that the kitchen space, porch and front room could offer alternate places for family to chill, yet, by opening the French doors, you could still be together. I hope we can return for a longer spell next year!
We loved our week at Vacation Station! The cabin was larger and nicer than expected based on photos, including a full kitchen with plenty of pots/pans, full size dining room and living room with comfy sectional where several naps happened.
The new hosts were great - very responsive and even drove up in the middle of our stay to address a wifi issue for us. We would stay in one of their properties again!
Know before you go:
Verizon phones had no connectivity - occasionally I could get one bar in the dining room. We heard that AT&T phones had full service.
Beaches - North Beach is larger, sunny and has great views of the gap. South Beach is small, but has a beautiful natural setting with trees, rocks, and patches of shade. There is a second beach at South Beach, a short ways down the South Shore loop trail - it is nude optional.
Pantry - this property did not stock pantry items, and the general store down the street was not well provisioned. We brought a small box of basics and were glad we did.
Boat Slip - the shared lake access for this cabin is a short hop north on 5A (5 min walk from cabin). It's a grassy boat slip with a picnic table, lake views, and a gradual, sand/pebble beach where one could take a quick dip.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are already thinking of returning in Sept.
