Calling all hunters, almost 33 more acres across the street used for hunting.

Welcome to Clifton House where your stay should be a most comfortable, relaxing and, hopefully, stress releasing experience. Located on over 5 acres of well kept grounds alive with wildlife and expansive waterviews of the creek and the Chesapeake Bay beyond , this elegant 4,000 sq ft, 4 bedroom, 2½ bath house sleeps 8 comfortably with large, high ceiling rooms, beautifully refinished wide-plank pine, wood parquet flooring, all tastefully decorated by the owners wife.

The 1st floor features a large kitchen with a fireplace and eat-in breakfast room, living/family room casually furnished, library/den, game room with pool table, and master suite with a queen. Up the flight of stairs with the original walnut banister to the 2nd floor reveals 2 large bedrooms with queens and the 3rd bedroom with 2 twins. Servicing guests' needs is a full bathroom off the hallway. This gracious property offers amenities that include an in-ground pool, freshwater pond, screened-in porch, open deck with table & chairs, gas grill. With over 1,000 ft of water frontage, there is a dock with deep water that can accommodate a variety of boats-- sail, yacht, multihull. The house, saltwater pool, lawn and well kept grounds is an ideal gathering place for a large family, group and can easily accommodate large events/venue, weddings in a beautiful waterfront setting.

This stately residence on Chesconessex Creek on Virginia's Eastern Shore dates to 1835. Known as Clifton the property was patented in 1668 to Colonel John Wise and was a plantation of over 750 acres surveyed. It is tradition that Col. Wise had built the first Clifton, naming it after his English home (A75B, pg 948 in Whitelaws). A graveyard exists today located NE of the house and contains numerous tombstones of the Wise family descendants.

This house and property are beautiful. It is very secluded and right on the water. The house was spotless when I arrived and has everything you need or want. The pool is huge. I had an awesome stay and I cannot wait until I go back in August!

Making beautiful memories at the Cliffton House
The Clifton House is like stepping into your own manor by the bay. The large 5-acre property ensures privacy and peace. Upon our arrival, the home was clean and the furniture in good condition. The house is LARGE with room for everyone in our party of 8 to spread out and relax. For 6 guests in our party, this was their second stay at the Clifton House, and they all said it was as wonderful as they all remembered. All the rooms boast gorgeous views and lots of light from the numerous windows. There is a nice set of outdoor furniture and a ceiling fan on the front screened in porch where many in our party took afternoon naps or read. The back deck has a large dining table with an umbrella which we enjoyed hanging out around when we weren’t in the enormous pool. I barely wore any of the clothes I packed as I was either in my bathing suit or pajamas😉 During our stay, every day was hot and humid, so the pool was very much appreciated. The air conditioning in the house worked great and the new appliances in the kitchen, including a gas stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, and washer dryer are all ample in size and made us feel very much at home. The house came with lots of pool floats, lounge chairs and a huge shade umbrella by the pool. The shed next to the home was filled with kayaks, paddles, and life jackets for everyone to use. The long dock was fantastic to fish off and the steps and kayak launch ramp made getting into the water a breeze. We tried to take advantage o

The Clifton House
At the end of June 2023 I had the pleasure of marrying my high school sweetheart at The Clifton House(my childhood home). The property was beautifully maintained and the pool a huge bonus. The house is how I remembered it, lovely and charming. We look forward to making Clifton House an annual destination for our family!

Beautiful Quiet Oasis
We had a beautiful vacation at Clifton. The location was fantastic with a great view of the bay off the deck. The house was equipped with all the comforts of home and we really enjoyed the pool table. The outdoor pool was great. The grounds were very well kept everything was top notch. Any minor issues we had were addressed promptly by the property manager Peter. While kayaking on the bay we were able to see all kinds of wildlife including crabs, birds, and we managed to get up close and personal with a ray! Fantastic vacation! The Brady's and Johnsons

Beautiful Historical Home
This home was so lovely to stay in. The view was amazing! the bedrooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The kitchen appliances were adequate and the pool was a great addition for a family. The Wifi wasn't great but worked as expected and the TVs always had service for those "movie nights". It would have been great to have gardens on the property, historical/period pictures, and a small display of the old tools that were laying around in the shed. The geese were abundant when we initially arrived which created a hassle walking on part of the property and difficulty controlling the flies. But seemed to stay away once we settled in. This is a pet -friendly place which is also a plus-plus. Being able to vacation with our puppy was so perfect. It is gated so we didn't have a worry to let her outside to play. We would definitely stay here again. Perhaps in the fall/winter when we can use the beautiful fireplaces.

Amazing Get Away
We had an amazing extended weekend at the Clifton house. The house is absolutely beautiful, and the pool was a dream. It was a great time escaping reality to spend time with loved ones. The view was beautiful, and such a peaceful time out on the water in the kayaks. We are definitely hoping to come back again soon.

Wide open spaces
Great historical home for larger families to spread out. Comfortable for our 8 person family that includes 6 kiddos of all ages. We loved having the yard to play in good weather and the pool table for after dark or during the extremely cold days! Family from close by were able to come and enjoy thanksgiving dinner with us without us feeling cramped! The wasps are still out in force even in the cold weather so if you have anyone allergic keep that in mind. Luckily the mosquitoes and other outdoor bugs from other reviews were already down for the season as we have one kiddo allergic to mosquitoes. The stairs leading to most of the bedrooms are very steep for little kiddos so we set up the air bed for the 3 little kids to stay in the sitting room. Peace of mind for myself but they thought it was an awesome sleep over! Beautiful place to stay.

Lovely setting, spacious house - could be better!
Clifton House has so much to offer, but misses the mark with VERY limited wifi and spotty cell service(that's not mentioned), a lovely, large pool with no shade considerations(no umbrellas), fabulous kayaks and life vests, but no way to wash them down(no outside water), needing to cart your garbage(not mentioned) and spotty cleanliness.

Relaxing retreat
We had a great time, the house was beautiful! Pros: Having the pool to cool off was great. The home was clean and very comfortable. All the bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. My grandson loved fishing from the dock and we enjoyed eating a few of the crabs caught in the traps. There is lots of wildlife with geese and frogs in the yard, and we saw many deer across the street! Cons: All trash must be taken to the Dump, which is closed on Wednesday, our checkout day. Thankfully my husband took most of it the night before we left, but we still had a bag of smelly garbage in our car, looking for a someplace to put it. We went to a local coffee shop and they agreed to allow us to put in their dumpster. The trash instructions should mention the hours and days the dump is open. And lastly, we were visited by a water snake in the pool twice, even when we were swimming! It was alarming to everyone to see how bold and quickly the get into the pool. They seem to live under the deck next to the pool, and surrounding grasses by the nearby pond.. Not sure what can be done!

A historical home that needs some repair but our stay was beautiful. Would recommend some of the doorknobs to be repaired, and some of the showerheads. The pool was wonderful. The views are outstanding. 5 acres of beautiful trees, a cemetery, and of course the water view. Lots of frogs- and bring spray for the bugs. We had a wonderful stay.

Amazing Property!!
The pictures do not do this place justice!! The property is absolutely stunning and the house has so much charm. Also it is a perfect set up for kids with separate fences for the pool and yard. The property manager, Pete, responded very quickly to the one minor issue we had. Also, the lawn care guys were great as they didn’t want to interrupt our pool time by mowing so they came back the next day. We will definitely be returning next year!

If you are looking for a place to to completely relax without crowds, this is perfect for you. You can kayak, fish, swim or do nothing at all. The house is absolutely beautiful. Pretty much everything is supplied for you. You will wake up to birds pleasantly chirping and go bed to a chorus of frogs. We were even able to take our dog. He gives it two paws up!

Beautiful country property
Our family enjoyed our week at the Clifton property. The house was huge, clean, and well appointed for guests. Although the property is in a rural area, we were able to find anything we needed within a 10 -15 minute drive. The locals were super helpful with suggestions for finding anything we needed. The pool, kayaks, large yard, and several common areas in the house provided fun for our kids. Fun fact: we caught a stingray on the dock and released that guy back for another day (he prefers shrimp for bait).

Wonderful for family
We loved our stay. The property was loads of fun to explore—fishing and swimming off the dock, bird watching at the pond, chasing frogs, gorgeous sunsets, swimming in the pool. The house had plenty of space to spread out and to gather together. It was terribly hard to say goodbye. Pete was responsive and great to work with.

Awful
To start with the property manager was changing out the stove when we got there they ended up staying 2 hours next day they sent electrician at 8 am in the morning they were there until almost 12 so we couldnt even leave the house .The next day the grass people were cutting grass at 8am in the morning so no sleeping in.Also the pool was closed which was the whole reason for us staying there for my grandchildren to swim I complained to the manger, also you have to take all your trash away to a near by dump or pay twenty dallars you have to strip all beds and towels and bring to wash room and all dishes have to be cleaned and put up not left in dishwasher and sweep the floor this is after you have paid 200 dallars for cleaning service.

Great home for a large family!
The home is large and pictures are pretty accurate. It does not show how large the rooms actually are. The bedrooms are large and the beds are comfortable. The property is beautiful. There is a great fenced in section off the deck that was safe for our dogs to hang out off leash. We played family football games on the lawn, my daughter ran her laps around the property in the morning, we used all of the kayaks and enjoyed the pool table when it rained. We had some issues in the kitchen but Pete, the property manager, responded quickly and brought a new awesome 8-in-1 airfryer, that saved the day! We look forward to returning! Thanks Pete!

Nice getaway for social distancing
The property and large grounds provide a great space for social distancing. The house has a pool table which we made full use of as the weather kept us mostly indoors. We had a couple of issues with the heat and a fuse, which Peter - the property manager - resolved very quickly. He was very responsive on everything and made check-in really easy. The fireplaces are not usable - but that was the only difference to what was advertised on the listing. Overall a lovely stay.
