Peaceful Island Cottage

This wonderful croft on Easdale Island is the ultimate "getaway from it all" so escape for the perfect adventure holiday.

Built in the 1800's the cottage has been designed to reflect the island’s slate-quarrying heritage. This pet friendly cottage comprises of two good size double bedrooms, a family bathroom, modern kitchen with all the utensils needed for your stay and a warm living room with a large log burner stove to give that extra cosy feel to it, the extra special feature to this stove is it will heat the whole house, combined with coal and fuel for your stay.

The big spacious back garden and patio which can be accessed from the living area, this has unlimited stunning sea views across the Atlantic towards the Isle of Mull where you can sit all day and watch the abundance of wildlife and many Yacht’s sailing bye or just sit and take in the sea air while having your morning coffee/tea. To accompany that you have a further front facing garden area with views over the island and onto the mainland for more bird watching.

One of the best features of this cottage is you can walk straight from your back garden with walks to find spectacular old slate mind quarry pools, it really is just breath-taking!

Easdale cottage is situated 16 miles from Oban "Gate way to the isles”. While you drive down the road taking in all its beauty you will pass over the world-famous Clachan Bridge, which is the bridge over the Atlantic. Here you will find your first local restaurant to dine at during your stay – Tigh an Truish.

Next you arrive in to Seil, right in the square you can dine out at the Oyster Bar & Restaurant, while enjoying spectacular views over to Scarba and Jura to name a few! Serves great pub meals and Scottish real Ales.

Accessed by road to the mainland of seil then by foot you will catch the small ferry (£2.50 return) for 3 minutes and by foot for the last 300 yards to the cottage with your very own wheelbarrow for transporting your luggage (different or what!).

A warm friendly welcome, is your next pit stop for great homemade food and drink is the Puffer Bar & Restaurant, located just as you come off the ferry and only a short 2 min walk from your cottage. This place has a real peace and tranquillity about it with a great atmosphere to unwind.

Easdale island is unique. The smallest permanently inhabited inner-Hebridean island, it was once the heart of Scotland’s world-renowned slate mining industry. There is the award-winning Easdale Island Folk Museum which tells the story of the slate mining and the community’s past. It also hosts the worlds Stone skimming championships every year where people from all over the world come to join and watch.

*please note, no access to the island with vehicles, only by foot, your car will be parked on the mainland for the duration of your stay. *

What a lovely place!
We really enjoyed our stay -- and our mini wire-haired dachshund enjoyed it even more. Great for dogs -- Rufus couldn't have had more toys, beds or bowls to try out. Lovely cottage, very cosy with a well-stocked dry cabinet! It is a very special place and we will return.

Cottage of dreams
Stayed for a week, absolutely fantastic, already booked for next year, host is amazing, nothing too much trouble, the cottage facilities are great, and has always been spotless, the island itself is wonderful, peace and quite away from all the hustle and bustle, my go to place...

A short Scottish island break
Lovely cottage which is fully equipped. Quirky location with friendly residents on the island. Accommodation has a fantastic position overlooking the harbour to one side and Jura and small islands to the other. Great place for a short break.

A perfect stay on a magical island
Our group had a fantastic stay over the weekend in June. The cottage was immaculate and had everything we needed. Homely and so cosy, it was really perfect. The views around the cottage the from the decking were breath taking. We didn't want to leave! We cant wait to return!

I cannot recommend this place enough, it is an absolutely gorgeous cottage in a stunning spot & Ross was such an amazing host. Another wonderful stay
Long weekend with daughter and soninlaw and grandchildren. It is as always a paradise on Easdale. Went down with the granddies to the world stone skimming site and even the 2 year old was up for it. Warm and comfortable in the cottage. Beautifully decorated. Lovely views from the cottage as well as on walks around the island.

A really great Easter holiday in Easdale Cottage
The cottage was just fantastic for our holiday. It was large and comfortable, the kitchen was excellent, and the wifi / TV / DVD were also first class (so good to still have a DVD player and a choice of DVDs!). The location was so beautiful as well. Before the holiday we were a little worried by the prospect of the ferry - but it was absolutely fine, and a fun change from using the car door to door. We immediately got into the routine of ferry times (there are plenty) and using the wheelbarrow. One of the best holidays we have had in a long time.

A luxury cottage on a blissfully unspoilt island with a diffence
Great fun that you have to get the small ferry across to the island there are no cars on the island so you use the cottage’s wheelbarrow and trolley to take your belongings up to the cottage. The cottage has every thing you need for self catering better equipped than many I have stayed in The island was slate quarry so you find the remains of the slate working every where but that is all bit different You can swim in the old quarries again something a bit different Ideal place for a real chill out break

A peaceful place...
Lovely cottage in a fabulous location. Spacious and well equipped. The lack of cars on the island, and barrows to transport your stuff to and from the cottage is novel... The pub and it's restaurant is excellent, but not open all the time. The coal fired heating and hot water system takes a bit of effort, but is cosy when going. Clearly a damp issue in some areas, with de-humidifiers provided. All said, we loved it - and very unusually, would consider returning!

Everything we could have hoped for and more!
Easdale Cottage is a beautiful cottage , tastefully styled and has everything you could possibly need and more!!! Ross couldn’t have be more helpful to ensure we had a perfect stay. Loved the log burner in the evening whilst we played board games. The location is stunning with lovely seats in each garden to enjoy the views on both sides of the island. The island was idyllic , we loved swimming in the quarries , skimming stones and crabbing and fishing at the harbour. The ferry is fantastic, lovely friendly service. The kids were delighted when we stepped off the boat and found the lovely park, with the Puffer restaurant/ bar overlooking, delicious food!! Great little museum with a lovely lady who had a wealth of information about the history of the Island. We had an amazing week and didn’t want to leave!

Perfect cottage
We had a super time at Easdale visiting our daughter who worked there this season. No 39 has everything for a good self catering cottage. The bed was very comfy, wifi good. Easdale is a quiet little island and we enjoyed our stay.

Stunning!
We LOVED our time on Easdale. The location is stunning and the croft was perfect. The Puffer bar was super friendly and were the ferrymen and those working at Seafari. We had an amazing time and would thoroughly recommend it.

Heaven is a Place on Earth (It's called Easdale)
Absolutely fantastic couple of weeks on Easdale at number 39... we were nearly put off... could we cope with ferrying back and forth our car on the mainland... yes... yes... yes... so worth it and just makes the stay what it is... its just a wonderful place to be. We've stayed in self catering cottages for best part of 15 to 20 years, this is the hands down the best we have stayed in, incredibly comfortable, fantastic views all around and I hugely miss my early morning walks with the dogs taking in the Atlantic and the surrounding islands. The Puffer Bar on the island had just opened up as we stayed, didn't try food but lovely people, great cake and nice stop off on our way back to the cottage for a beer. Oyster Bar over on Seil in Ellenabeich just across the sound on the ferry served really nice food and beer and a nice place to relax after a long days hiking. Our favourite island (other than Easdale of course) was Kerrera, park at Gallachan and take the ferry across and then the walk to Gylen castle and the nearby tearoom was fantastic, felt like I was on the set of Lord of the Rings... Luing and a walk around the coastline to the Atlantic Centre in Cullipool also well worth and island hop. Day trip to Mull and Tobermory possible but is a long day, better if you can stop over somewhere for a night I suspect. The walk up onto Dun Mor on Seil overlooking Easdale is really worth it if you can do the climb, an amazing view over Easdale and the surrounding area. Seafari was fantastic, am always a bit reluctant to pay for these types of trip but it was worth every penny, we saw seals, deer, goats, sea birds, a sea eagle and porpoise and the guides talked extensively about the islands and the tidal currents, a really fantastic couple of hours. There was plenty of fuel for the coal burning stove which was fantastic for providing extra heat into the property and the owner was a great help keeping the temperature in the cottage warm enough for our stay. It was a long drive from Cambridge to holiday on Easdale, we'd do it again in a hearbeat... it's just a very special place and if you fancy something a little bit different, a bit of an adventure, this really couldn't be a better place to go a stay for a wee while... my advice is if you are reading this go for it.

Very special and unique location
Anyone needing a remote, quiet, peaceful location with absolutely everything on hand for a self-catering holiday, would find it hard to beat spending time at Easdale Cottage. It is awesome. One reason that I gave comfort a 3 is that some windows have no blinds, therefore making one feel a bit exposed, as there are walkers passing by. Also, it is not the best in the winter when it's raining and blowing gales. The magnificent burner is fabulous, but would need to be on all day to provide adequate warmth. All in all, a stunning place to stay for a top quality break.

Must stay location
We had an amazing new years eve at the cottage and found the whole experience to be delightful. The cottage is probably one of the best sited property's on the island with great views of both harbours through the front window, Step out into the back garden and you can see the waves from the Atlantic crashing onto the shore. The cottage was fully equipped for our cooking needs and the kitchen was modern. The front room was very warm and homely, especially with the fire on. All instructions on how to treat the place with respect and operate certain controls were very clear. I will be booking again.

So comfortable and beautiful
A very comfortable and cozy idyllic cottage on the west coast of Scotland - this was our families staycation for 2021. With two little ones (incl. 10 week old baby) we were not sure what to expect but the cottage and Easdale itself did not disappoint! The cottage has been thoughtfully decorated throughout and contained everything we needed for our stay including all the standard kit for our little ones such as a potty, high chair, cot bed etc. The view out from the sitting room over to Seil was stunning and the gardens would provide a fantastic spot for a BBQ during the summer months (we went in late October so we may have to return to take advantage of that). The cozy wood/coal burner provided for a special kind of ambiance in the evenings and once the kids were asleep, the wine was poured and we felt a million miles away from civilisation - exactly what we needed. May I also just comment on how comfortable the bed was! A real bonus. We were also surprised to see a small stash of non-perishable items in the cupboard, presumably left from previous customers, but very welcomed as we forgot to bring tea bags and few other essentials that we missed off our shopping list. P The (very) short ferry ride over to the island from Seil added to the unique charm of the island and the ferrymen were very helpful. Be sure to pack light! Although, with ferry trips normally every half hour, if two trips are needed, it’s not a big deal. We would also highly recommend the Oyster (located on Seil island) for a spot of food for lunch or evening. There is a pub on Easdale itself (the Puffin) but currently closed for refurbishment/change of ownership (I think). A very unique, enjoyable and peaceful stay. We will certainly be back. Easdale Cottage
Magical stay at Easdale Cottage on Easdale island. Large croft house to comfortably sleep 4-6 people. Well equipped amenities, WiFi etc. Only downside, the wood fire burner IS the main source of heating which must be attended to throughout your stay to provide heating and hot water. Although there are back up electric radiators remotely control by owners. We were not aware of this so be prepared. Interesting and quaint little Island that has a Slate museum, Puffin pub and community hall when opened (All closed at present due covid) Very friendly residents and helpful ferrymen! Great walks, approx 40 mins around the island with fantastic views, birds and wildlife. Would definitely recommend for a weekend. Enjoy!...

Hidden gem of a place
We had a wonderful stay here with our two little boys at the end of August. The cottage is beautifully decorated and was really well equipped with everything we needed for both us and our little ones. The 3 different garden areas were all special in their own way; we enjoyed a bbq on the back terrace, beers in the front garden whilst watching the boats in the harbour and we watched the sun set from the raised garden overlooking the sea. The location is so unique, and the short ferry ride from the mainland and the stash of wheelbarrows to transport your luggage to the property makes it feel particularly special. We enjoyed many peaceful walks around the island taking in the stunning views, and we found the most perfectly positioned picnic bench at the very top of the island just behind the cottage. Highly recommended. The kids enjoyed playing on the slate beaches, skimming stones, and visiting the chickens, tortoise and parrot. And swimming in the old quarries was a magical experience for all of us. It was so nice to be somewhere so peaceful with no cars where we could let the kids just be kids and enjoy being outside. And the dvd collection was very welcome after a day of exploring! We will definitely be back but we suspect this special place will be fully booked pretty soon.

Wow
Loved Easdale Cottage! It was bigger than we expected, and spotlessly clean. The kitchen was so well equipped, everything you could possibly need and more! Comfy sofas, comfy beds, 3 gardens to choose from if the weather is good. The peace of the island was incredible. The pub on the island was closed, but luckily there is another one a 3 minute boat ride away, that served good food too. We will be booking again as soon as possible!

Mini staycation!
No.39 is the last cottage up the brae(2 in 1) and it is stunning. In terms of comfort,Ross has thought of everything -very comfortable furniture, beautiful dining table and chairs and the bed?-I slept like a log!, The island is unique in that there are no cars, but the wee ferry is very reliable ,even my dog liked it! Easdale is very small, but very friendly..
