One of the highlights of our trip
Getting to Zara is a slight trek, a taxi drops you to the nearby village and then it’s up to you to negotiate a 10 minute speed boat ride to the property on the mangroves. When we arrived Zara village had no guests except us, for the 4 days. Coordinating our excursions and travel was lovely Anatalie. She is a one-man-army, managing the resort and the staff, cooking the most delicious and well presented meals, sometimes surprising us with a special menu. She did the most amazing salads and guacamole with seafood done in so many forms. After the first couple days we dint even look at the menu, just asked her to “do what she would see fit for breakfast”! And she always exceeded our expectations.
Now for the gorgeous resort, a true oasis, meticulously planted with a variety of foliage, little stone pathways crisscrossing the place from the mangroves and ocean below to the restaurant and infinity pool deck, to our rooms. Every morning one can see sunbirds feeding in every corner, and every evening there is a gorgeous sunset on the far left over the pool. They are building more villas while we are here but the noise was far away and unnoticeable. We also met a black Labrador puppy who seems to be a new addition.
The Lokobe forest reserve is 2 minutes walk away via a tidy beach, which leads to the local village. We were fortunate to experience a night safari, on foot, organised by Anatalie.
