About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Dunes Cottage Normanville

The cottage lies wind-protected and secluded directly behind, and adjacent to, South Australia's only remaining stretch of unadulterated coastal sand-dunes, and was itself until recently, zoned 'conservation'. It has been painstakingly and tenderly renovated and rejuvenated, to bring it's facilities and amenities into current times, whilst retaining the original site, layout and ambience. It lies at the end of a very short cul-de-sac with only two other properties in the street and no passing traffic.

You cannot see the sea from the cottage, but there is no mistaking the envigorating ozone-laden air and the soothing sounds of the ocean and waves... all from your front door. The cottage is also an ideal base from which to explore together with your dog/s - please apply for details of pet stays at time of booking.

The most direct route from the cottage takes about 2 minutes to the beach and brings you out to the north of the jetty, and continuing in this direction gives you miles(about 1.2) of beautiful beach walking thru to Carrackalinga. In the opposite direction, your beach meandering takes you on a 3km(approx) walk to the reef and seabird environs of Lady Bay.

In all seasons, Dunes Cottage provides an ideal base for nature enthusiasts, with ample local interest in the surrounding towns & localities to cater for more citified interests.

At 'home', an outdoor gas BBQ and setting, a well-equipped full electric kitchen with oven and microwave, bath&shower, dining table and chairs, comfortable lounge, good beds, gas heating, airconditioning, ceiling fan, books, magazines, tapes, radio, TV, DVD's, CD's, games, local phone, and fishing rods, ensure that your normal daily needs are well met. Should you strike inclement weather, the thoughtful surrounds of the cottage interior envelop you like a mother's arms banishing all disappointment until sunnier times come again.

Locality

The beachside town of Normanville lies 78km south of Adelaide and is easily accessed in approximately one hour via the Southern Express Way ,or, in about 1hour15mins via main South Road.

Coming off the main road leading down to Cape Jervis, turning right into Normanville is the main street at the end of which, left takes you down to the beach and jetty, right goes to Carrackalinga. The vista is typically country, and the beautiful beaches are some of South Australia's finest with fine white sands and miles of wonderful beach walking.
Small town amenities are centred around the main street which also features a superb traditional pub/hotel/restaurant, a modern Foodland supermarket, chemist, ATM, newsagency, bakery, cafes, post office......and more.

Property bed configuration. One double bed, and one single bed in separate room. Open plan layout, o

The "in-dunes" location of the cottage is as close as you can get to the beach in Normanville without having to use or cross any roads. A small sandy track opposite the cottage leads you through the sand dunes to the beach (2mins).
Taking the 'long' way to the beach, going back to the corner and to Jetty Road leading down to the foreshore, will take you about 10minutes on a slow walk. Similarly, the same walking pace will take you 15 minutes to the main street shops

Lovely Location.
Convenient beachy location however the place while very homey and with plenty of character is incredibly cluttered and being so would make it hard to clean regularly and this is quite noticeable along with an odd smell ? This said it did not ruin our stay and we had a lovely time.

Hidden Gem
Dunes Cottage is what a beachhouse should be, full of character and the comforts of home without being a 2 storey, 10 bedroom concrete monstrosity which most beach "shacks" have become today. In a quiet cul de sac on the edge of the sand dune conservation area, it is quiet, peaceful and a couple of minutes walk by the path through the dunes to the beach. Location is perfect, and the owners have thought of all the extras you may need and provided them, as well as shelves of books, magazines, games, puzzles, dvds etc. Will definitely stay again

Very cosy, homely feel, with excellent provisions. In great position, over the dunes to beach and easy walk to shops etc. Found it a little too small and lounge could have been more comfortable. Overall a great place for a short stay.

Erika is a great host and made a courtesy phone call just to make sure we arrived safe n'sound at Dunes. Everything was catered for and provided to guests. No need for a washing machine (only item missing) as I had a bathtub! Comfortable bed an a nice home to come back to each day. Ideally located on the beach which have amazing sunsets. Normanville perfect location for base to explore the Fleurieu Peninsula. Easy drive to get to places such as McLaren Vale wineries, even the 2.5 hour trip to Monarto Zoo! Thanks Erika for all the attention to detail! Will update with photos later as I have so many to sort through!

The peace and the serenity of the place, you were made to feel so welcome by just opening the door and then to find that beautiful hamper in the fridge just topped it all off. A 2 minute walk and your on the beach and finally it's nice to know that the dunes is dog friendly, our little Cavaliar had a ball.

We were able to take our German Sheperd who sleeps inside (in his basket) and loved the beach. The appointments or extras provided were well beyond our expectations (condiments in the kitchen, CD's, books, local information guides, instructions/labels, etc) The breakfast provided was sufficient for both our mornings. A delightful cottage for a romantic get a way
