Wonderful Stay for Christmas!
Our experience at Casita Mistica during Christmas 2023 was truly delightful! The cottage was just like the charming photos. What we loved: - super easy check in/check out - the cottage was extremely clean upon arrival - the decorated Christmas tree was a lovely surprise - plenty of pellets for the pellet stove to keep us warm during our rental period - property was impressive - including the gated security - the cottage and property exuded 100% New Mexican charm - all linens, towels etc were of high quality and comfortable - the outside space was amazing, fenced in backyard was perfect for our pup - washer and dryer in the cottage - walking trails are amazing! - high quality soap/shampoo/conditioners provided Things we'd have loved to have, but also knew were not included when booking: - dishwasher - more updated cooking pots/pans - king bed in master - deadbolt lock that didn't have key access for extra security for guests We would book again in a heartbeat! Such a charming and clean property.

Too Rustic for Price
My husband, daughter and I were welcomed by host/property manager and their dog, Chester. There was a nice Christmas tree as we walked in and the house had nice decor. The WiFi was out for 2 of the 4 days we were there, but host/property manager explained that someone was coming to fix it and they did. After looking closer, there were quite a few damaged/not working household items, such as one of the shower heads in master bath (we ended up having to share our daughter’s bathroom because of that), hot and cold water in master bath sink were on the wrong side, couple of broken windows and then a few other non-essential items. We didn’t think much of it. Thought that it was part of the rustic charm until we were making the long drive home and Pedro (host/property manager) sends us a bill for $250 for a hole in a painting that we did not put there. Saw the hole, but dismissed it as though it was just part of the charm. I wrote him and told him that we did not damage the painting and then felt it necessary to list all the other items that we noticed were damaged so that we wouldn’t be accused of anything hence forth. He never responded to me after that, so I ended up calling VRBO parent company explaining the situation and it was resolved quickly without having to pay $250. We were a bit disappointed with this experience especially after reading all the other great reviews. We tried not to let it ruin our trip, but it definitely left a sour taste.

Lovely casita in a unique nature area
A charming New Mexican casita with a lovely fenced yard for outdoor fun, with hammocks and games. Comfortable, spacious bedrooms. The kitchen is large and the dining table can accommodate 8 people comfortably. The nature trail at El Mistico Ranch is fun and interesting and right outside the casita.

Excellent stay near Ruidoso
The property was very relaxing with great views of the mountains. The drive to ski apache is actually a very nice drive through the mountains. The kitchen included all of the basics so no need to bring anything. Same went for the bathrooms. Overall an excellent property. Wish we could have stayed longer but it was already booked for New Years.

Beautiful property, stunning natural setting
My husband and I traveled from Texas to stay at this property with our college aged daughter and two of her friends. Spring Break! We had a 100 % wonderful stay! The house is everything you would want in a New Mexico accommodation. It's secluded, and at the same time, just a short and scenic drive to Ruidoso or Capitan for shopping, etc. The house is beautifully decorated in natural colors and textures, and really geared toward relaxation, comfort and enjoyment of the natural surroundings. We spent our days taking gorgeous hikes. While we love to support local restaurants and eat local cuisine, and intended to spend evenings in town, the restaurants were all experiencing staffing shortages. Some were closed. We never found anything with less than a hour-and-a-half wait, then a long wait for service and food once seated, so we bought groceries and prepared meals at the house. The kitchen is comfortable and great for cooking and eating together! We all watched movies on the big TV at night, and everyone enjoyed the hammocks and quiet. We followed the recommendations for short showers, and never lacked for hot water and great water pressure. Although we bought some firewood, we ended up just using the awesome pellet heater when mornings/evenings got chilly. Now I want one of those for my own house. THANK YOU to the owners, for making this amazing home available. We can't wait to return!

THIS CABIN IS PERFECT
This cabin is beautiful. And its the perfect place for families and/or group of friends. The cabin is clean, cozy and functional, rooms are spacious, and bathrooms are nice and modern. The 3 fireplaces (plus the pellets heater) make sure you stay toasty in winter. Kitchen is well equipped and big enough for people to gather. And the best part of the cabin is the living room, with fireplace, a tv and very confortable sofas + chairs. A very cool thing we discovered is that the land where the cabin is located has very nice trails to hike. This entire place is perfect for those who love to have fun in the outdoors and the come to a nice beautiful place to rest & recharge.

Beautifully decorated and clean
Our stay was quite and uneventful. Although it was a ways from town it didn't feel too far. The indoors was beautifully decorated, comfortable and clean. Our only complaint was the outdoor space. The pictures depicted scenic views and wide open spaces but the property has a solid fence enclosing the only porch which blocked any potential views.

Lovely home for a great mountain getaway!
We had such an amazing time here. The owners have done an amazing job of blending modern updates into this traditional adobe home. We were pleasantly surprised that the dining table was updated - the photos showed seating for four, but there was a larger table with eight chairs! Each room also had an electric space heater/fan that we weren't expecting...between these and opening the windows we were more than comfortable, even though the house does not have heat or A/C. Pedro was amazingly quick at responding to any questions we had both before and during our stay. The views from this location are amazing - it sits at 7,238 ft, and you have mountain views all around. If you aren't used to elevation, you might need to plan your outings with this in mind the first few days. There are tons of trails to hike in Lincoln National Forest, but we also branched out and explored White Sands National Park, the Valley of Fires lava fields, the Smokey Bear Historical Park, and drove to Cloudcroft to hike to the Mexican Canyon railroad trestle bridge. But our kids enjoyed the Grindstone Lake Wibit and an evening at the Flying J Ranch the most. We enjoyed our stay here so much, from all the adventures we had, to just walking down the road to see the neighbor's llamas, goats, and horses. Even just washing the dishes or cooking...the kitchen window view can't be beat! There are multiple VRBO's on the property, but you still feel like you have the place to yourself. If we could suggest anything, it would be a binder with general info (like where to take the trash, what we should wash before leaving, etc). Mostly, that would just save the owner from having to answer questions as they come up. Pedro was so responsive that any question we had was answered within two minutes. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and have already recommended this property to our friends if they visit the Ruidoso area!

My family and I loved staying at Casita Mistica. We did a road trip around NM and this place was our favorite, we did not want to leave! It is somewhat remote, but that made for a peaceful setting and beautiful views. The house was amazing! It was well-appointed with all we needed for the kitchen, comfy beds, soft sheets and towels, and it was nicely decorated. I look forward to staying there again! It would be fun to stay in the colder months and have a chance to use the fireplace.

Very cute, clean and spacious for a family. The hammocks where great, and very relaxing. The property is off the rails, so it is very nice and quiet. However get what you need before you get comfortable, as there is no stores close by. Also, property does not have AC, and although it was not unbearable, it may be tough if you like to sleep cold. I am sure this is not a problem during the colder months of the year. Over all the property is beautiful and very clean. My teenage daughter and friend wanted to snap and Instagram as soon as they walked in, yes it’s beautiful! Will come back during ski time.

Great Home!
This location is really nice, the home is very clean, the layout of the home is very cool, overall great stay. The Nogal canyon area is one of the greatest places on earth! Only negatives check in info was pretty minimal, had to communicate a couple of times to get everything straight, but communication was really easy so it wasn’t any big deal. We weren’t told about the gate being locked at night, took a while to figure out how to get out in the morning, but we figured it out after a few minutes so again not a deal breaker by any stretch.

Mountain tranquility
This property is beautiful! Other than the greetings by the 3 centipedes we found in the house, everything went as expected. Clean sheets, clean towels, fresh pillows, and the calm, rustic feeling from an adobe house set the tone for tranquility. I highly recommend this property. We will be coming back.

Great House
What a fun little house to stay in. Location was a bit tricky mostly because of entrance to road off main highway. It was so quiet and peaceful. I want hammocks at my house now because of this property. Very clean, spacious, great bathrooms. A little further from town than I thought but wasn't bad. I would live there if I could.
