Updated lake cottage right on Damariscotta Lake.

Little Thumb sits on the water's edge on Damariscotta Lake under pine and oak trees. Blueberry bushes line the shore. The cottage is surrounded by water on three sides and looks south down the long part of the lake. The cove to the east is a favorite feeding place for heron, osprey, and bald eagles. Dangle your feet off our private dock, and watch ducks paddle by. Let the loons lull you to sleep.

We offer weekly rentals during the summer. We offer longer and shorter stays in the shoulder seasons. We have wi-fi suitable for working away. This is a seasonal cabin and is not available during the winter months.

The kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms have been totally remodeled. The kitchen has a gas stove, microwave, refrigerator, and center island. The bathroom has a washer and dryer. The living room has a propane stove and full views of the lake. There are two bedrooms with blankets, pillows, and quilts provided. Sheets and bath towels are standard. Please bring your own swim towels.

We have a Webber charcoal grill and grill tools. We have a stone fire pit and grate.

The cabin was originally built on an island but the island is now attached by a causeway. There are only about 10 houses and it feels very private.

Walk or bike along the dirt roads. Kayak or canoe from the dock. Fish in the cove. Or just relax and enjoy the views.

Swim right off our dock. We also have an additional swim float which sets a little deeper. The lake water level does vary but gets deeper beyond the cottage.

We keep two kayaks at the cottage, a 14' Necky Manitou and a 13.5' Perception Catalina, plus two paddles and life vests. You may bring your own kayaks too. Plus you can rent kayaks, canoes, or paddle boards and have them delivered. Please let the life vests drip outside before bringing them inside.

If you wish to rent additional kayaks or a canoe you can make arrangements with MidCoast Kayak in Damariscotta. They will deliver and pick up right from the cottage.

There is a sand beach at Damariscotta Lake State Park, 10 minutes from the cottage.

There is a sand beach and ocean swimming at Pemaquid Beach in New Harbor, about a 1/2 hr from the cottage.

We have a private well so you do not need to bring bottled water to drink or cook with.

Sheet sizes: We have one queen-sized bed and two twins beds.

Beautiful spot on the lake
The spot on the lake couldn't be beat. The location is beautiful and the house is clean and cozy. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars because one of the reasons we rented it was to use the kayaks and one has a broken seat, which meant we couldn't go out together.

Maine Never Disappoints
A cute property in a quiet nook of Damariscotta Lake. The water was still warm enough in mid-September for a swim (though bring water shoes...the bottom is a bit mucky). My wife had to work a bit, which was eased by the view and the internet was good for video calls. It's an easy shot into town to get your local oyster fix. Most of the midcoast towns are less than a hour away. Would return.

Fun time on the lake
We had a great time staying on the lake. It was nice and quiet and the kids caught fish right off the dock. The cottage was spacious and well equipped. Exactly as advertised. We can’t wait to return.

My cabin on the lake
Better than I imagined-- the pictures were accurate, but the cabin is way nicer once you see it. You can tell that quite a bit was done on it recently. Natalie thanks!! Going there off season was sooo peaceful and being on a huge lake sitting out on the deck was a wonderful plus.

Lovely cottage on a cove
We enjoyed a delightful Memorial Day weekend at Natalie's cottage. The indoor space was just as beautiful as promised, with views of the water from three sides! The location was remarkable: near a couple of other cottages but on the edge of an quiet cove. Aside from a couple of passing fishing boats, we had the area almost entirely to ourselves . . . plus the ducks, loons, and osprey. Songbirds filled the treetops, the stars at night were brilliant. Mitch at Midcoast Kayak delivered our canoe early and exactly as specified. And Natalie's welcome and communications were all top-notch. Many thanks!

Charming and Peaceful!
We had a positively wonderful time this weekend! It was so quiet and peaceful here. We heard loons, a cormorant, beavers hard at work, geese and we watched an eagle fly overhead. The cottage is charming, the kitchen easy to work in and the bed was SO comfortable! We slept so well. Thank you for a wonderful visit, we hope to come again!

Very nice lake cottage, secluded cove with lots of waterfowl , fish and birds. Nicely equipped kitchen. Everything we needed. Beds reasonably comfortable. Brought own sheets and towels as I did not want to do wash at end of our stay.

Perfect getaway
Fabulous location directly on clean, quiet, secluded lake! The cabin is clean, well equipped with everything you need, comfortable! Beautiful lake views from every window! Perfect spot to enjoy peaceful lake time, but not to far from local coastal towns like Damariscotta, Rockland, BarHarbor & Camden for shopping, restaurants & boating/sightseeing adventures! The whole experience is spectacular!

Exceptional spot to get away and relax
The property was wonderful. It was extremely quiet and relaxing. We were able to have a couple of fires in the fire pit before the rain came in. It was great relaxing by the gas fireplace while looking at the autumn leaves and listening to the rain. There was so much interesting bird activity on the lake too. I only wish there had been a pair of binoculars there to observe them closer. Overall, it was very nice. Attention to details and comfort was exemplary. Thank you Natalie for sharing your wonderful abode!

Best week at Little Thumb
We had excellent weather all week which made it more wonderful than ever!! I have been to this cabin at least 6 times. There is only one other visible house. The new propane fireplace made the house very cozy and the warmth was needed. I love the room darkening shades! My loving partner made the stay special!! The location was perfect!! It is a very comfortable place to stay. God willing, I will be back next year. The front door key does not seem to work well.

Great overall
The camp was cozy and comfortable, very private and quiet. Our only issue was with the trash and checkout. To get the linens washed, trash taken to the transfer station, clean counters, etc., pack up and get out by 10 was challenging. Making checkout at 11 would be a big help. We loved having the washer and dryer, overall we loved it!

Peaceful
The cabin was exactly as it was described. My friend and I spent a very quiet week decompressing from a long school year. She fished every day and I kayaked every day. Even on cold & rainy days, we enjoyed turning on the gas fireplace and watching a movie, reading a book, or napping. Everything we needed to cook or stay at the cabin was available. We didn't leave the cabin for two days...:-). Very lovely and quiet vacation. Dionna PS: The sound of the loons and the fresh air in the cabin are a bonus.

Anniversary getaway
Sometimes you dread to see a vacation come to an end. Sometimes you REALLY wish you could stay even longer. This was one of those vacations. Cottage on "Little Thumb" isn’t a place to stay, it’s a place to unwind. One can get anything they want out of their time here. The host provided everything needed and the cottage itself said "Welcome back!" every time we opened the stained-glass front door. The dock gave us the chance to laze away a sunny day, after awaking to the loons calling one another through the foggy mist earlier that morning. We believed the same loons to be present and calling as we were fortunate to watch the full moon rise over the Damariscotta Lake during our stay. The enclosed porch was a perfect place to sit and read one rainy afternoon. Chipmunks, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, cedar waxwings and even a couple of muskrats were additional treats. The cottage is conveniently located to anything needed or wanted but is tucked away enough to provide you with your own sense of space. We enjoyed our time and hope to return in the near future. Relaxing lake get-away
This cabin is on Damariscotta Lake, which is just an incredible location for those that love the outdoors. In September, this location is very quiet, although the weather is still warm during the day and evenings are cool - good sleeping weather. There are so many things to see and do depending on what strikes your fancy..we love to kayak and the cabin comes with two great kayaks. Short-term fishing licenses are available and the fishing is great. We spent many, many hours on the lake without seeing any other boats. The view is great and we saw at least one spectacular sunset. Loved hearing the cry of the loons and seeing ospreys and eagles soar during our kayak adventures. There are several great restaurants with 15-30 miles driving. One can find a farmer's market nearby almost any day of the week. Fun places nearby, like Morse's Sauerkraut and Euro Deli, Oxbow brewery, etc. Recommend the Damariscotta Grill and Moody's Diner (for pie). Primo in Rockland for a special dining experience. As for the cabin, it is rustic in nature, but has many updated amenities and has a great "cottage" feel with nice, comfortable furniture. Doe snot have the hodgepodge, garage sale feel of many cabins we have stayed at over the years. The kitchen is updated and has plenty of standard items for preparing meals, including an outdoor bbq grill. Has a picnic table for outdoor eating, and a fire pit for socializing outdoors when the sun goes down. The description of the listing is accurate. The property was clean upon arrival and appears to be well-maintained overall, with obvious new upgrades. Natalie, the owner, is quickly responsive, although we had no need to contact her during our stay. We would recommend this property. The only thing we wish this property had was a back door that was a little more secure.

Lovely cabin -- some issues with readiness for guests & ability to work remotely
Summary: Design is great but Function is lacking—(1) cabin should be properly cleaned and prepared for guests' arrival, (2) working remotely is a concern with the poor wifi, and (3) the listing should clearly express that the dock is not always available, due to the dock not being a fully floating dock. The Good: Cabin is lovely, location is great, beds were comfortable, and it was quiet during our stay. The Not-So-Good: Prior to arriving, the host messaged to say that the cleaners had not had time to clean the windows and floors (although we booked 7 months in advance). After 14 hours of travel, we were excited to sit on the dock and enjoy the evening; however, the dock was in pieces in the backyard. We messaged the host and she stated that the water level was currently too high for the dock to be put in; over the next few days, we inquired again about the dock (since we noticed other docks in the lake) but the host said that she didn't have a fully floating dock. Finally, on Thursday evening, someone showed up to put the dock in the water so we were able to enjoy the dock for one full day (rather than the six that we had planned for). Overall, it seemed as if the cabin sat empty all winter and wasn't cleaned and prepared for our arrival. On the night we arrived, in addition to the lack of a dock, the picnic table and fire pit were covered with tarps and we had to search for the outdoor chairs. Although it was easy to locate the kayaks and paddles, we could not locate the life vests; a search of the cabin, shed, and outdoor spaces yielded no results. Finally, I checked the storage space in the cabin (a sort of small attic) and found the life jackets there. As the host stated, the windows and floors were not in great shape; however, the rest of the cabin didn't fare much better—we had to scrub the coffeepot, microwave, and dishes before use. Also, the listing indicates reliable, fast internet but we were unable to work using the wifi; we would wait several minutes for a page to load with no success. We traveled into town to work at a coffee shop a few days and, when working at the cabin, I used my data.

Perfect Solo Getaway
My mid-October stay at Little Thumb was everything I hoped for and more: plenty of peace and quiet, an immaculate and comfortable place to stay, and beautiful surroundings in which to birdwatch from the dock, read, and take long walks. I especially enjoyed the well-stocked kitchen, comfy queen bed, and big gas heating stove in the living room that kept me toasty, even temps dipped into the 40s. And Natalie certainly deserves her rating as a top host!
