The property offers direct access to the scenic Skellingthorpe Walk, Sustrans National Route 647 and the former train line between Chesterfield and Lincoln. It is a perfect base for cycling or walking enthusiasts. the owners have provided a bike rack to secure two bikes. You can walk or cycle 12 miles to Lincoln almost road free, where you can explore its historic centre, famous for Lincoln Castle, Lincoln Cathedral and the iconic Steep Hill. The city also boasts excellent shopping, dining, and nightlife. With a choice of various museums and art galleries in the area including the Museum of Lincolnshire Life and the International Bomber Command Centre. Alternatively, you can head the opposite direction, cycling across the impressive Fledborough Viaduct, following the River Trent towards Tuxford and as far reaching as the expansive grounds of Clumber Park NT, offering both tranquil lakeside walks and scenic cycling routes.
Other places of interest in the area are the stunning Doddington Hall and Gardens, just 5 miles away and can also be accessed from the Skellingthorpe Walk via bike or walking. Doddington Hall offers an Elizabethan experience, with two restaurants (which serve a fantastic steak sandwich!), boutique shopping, GIANT cycle shop and beautiful countryside walks. The famous Sherwood Forest, with its ancient oak trees and woodland trails, is just a short 19-mile drive away, allowing you to step into the legendary world of Robin Hood. Also well worth a visit is the Southwell Workhouse, located 19 miles away, for a fascinating look into Victorian life at this well-preserved National Trust property, offering a glimpse into the social history and hardships of the past. The stunning Peak District Park is not far away where you can take a trip and explore the quaint villages and towns it has to offer, as well as its fantastic landscapes, hiking and walking.
