STANDALONE COTTAGE HOME:
Located in the lush garden behind our 1852 Creole Cottage where we've lived 14 years in the funky Bywater neighborhood.  Accessed via metal gate along an uneven brick and river rock sidewalk, your home is a private small cottage with separate bedroom, bathroom with clawfoot tub, and charming kitchen that has a butcher block countertop complete with a Washer/Dryer.  NO SHARED WALLS or floors - enjoy your privacy.  Two window units and cool and heat the small space. The garden features nearly 100 different herbs, native plants, citrus, peppers, roses and more used in our Apothecary business. Try the chocolate mint!

KITCHEN:
Cook a meal or enjoy nearby Bywater/Marigny neighborhood restaurants for brunch, lunch, and dinner.  Coffee maker and a French press with mugs, fridge/freezer, microwave, full-size gas stove and oven, and stocked with cookware and utensils to make you feel at home.  Two bar stools for convenient countertop dining.  Full-size washer/dryer so you can do laundry - bring your own detergent, dryer sheets, etc.

BATH:
Quaint bright room with a tiny sink, cool clawfoot tub, an old medicine cabinet to store your things, bright light, and an airy fresh way to start your day.  New electrical including GFCI with built-in nightlight.  Hairdryer, iron, some toiletries, and towels provided.

BEDROOM:
Overlooks the courtyard. Two windows (with exterior shutters and interior blinds) make this small room seem bigger.  Functional bedroom with antique FULL sized bed and new window AC/heat unit plus ceiling fan to keep you comfortable. Room is sized for sleeping only - hang your clothes in the laundry area and use the armoire to unpack your foldable items.

ENTERTAINMENT:
Smart TV - type in your credentials and watch what you want.  Alexa - ask for music, news or weather.  Games - Jenga, XL connect four, poker chips/cards, and more.  Record player with a selection of records while you glide in the rocking chair.  USB outlets for powering your devices.  High-speed internet  - good for work from home.  PLUS all the bars, coffee shops, and restaurants - explore Bywater, Marigny, French Quarter, St. Roch, Holy Cross, Arabi, etc.

SHARED YARD/OUTDOOR DINING:
Spacious private courtyard with table and chairs, string lights, and a shade umbrella.  Lounge and dine al fresco nestled amongst local flora.  There is also a shared fenced-in yard.  Bring your small pet but be aware there may be fence gaps. The backyard is a working garden for our business, Southern Rhoades Apothecary, and features many flowers, herbs, citrus, veggies, fruits and more that we use in our handmade products. See what’s blooming!

THE AREA:
Plenty within walking distance. You're in the "Barmuda Triangle" near Vaughan's, BJ's Lounge, and J&J's Sports Bar.  AKA "Back of the Bywater".  Dive bars and live music several nights of the week within walking distance!  Treme Brass Band, Little Freddie King, Corey Henry and more. Enjoy the best BBQ in town from The Joint - "Always Smokin".  Parleaux Beer Lab has incredible craft beer on tap and to-go cans, is dog friendly, and has a near-nightly pop-up/food truck schedule at their brewery.  Step back in time at the old seafood house Jack Demsey's - beer served in a chilled mug alongside fried seafood platters and okra or mac and cheese. Bacchanal Wine is a romantic spot for music, glasses or bottles of wine, cheese plates, and small plates.

REST OF THE HOOD:
Rent an e-bike using the Blue Bikes app to get around quickly. Breakfast and brunch at Bywater Bakery, Elizabeth's, Satsuma, Country Club (fun drag brunch!), Suis Generis, Alma, Sneaky Pickle and more.  Walk or bike to Crescent Park - includes a Dog Run and beautiful riding/running spot with a great view of the river and downtown skyline. Walk/bike to Euclid Records, Low Timers vintage, and Bargain Center to waste away an afternoon digging and shopping. Grab a bite at Pizza Delicious or Brat'z Y'all Beer Garden or get a swimming pool day pass at Country Club. Enjoy Top Chef Nina Compton’s Bywater American Bistro. Explore Studio Be and Dr. Bob's for art lovers. Get some work done at coffee shops Malimo, Petit Clouet, and Orange Couch. Frenchmen Street and the French Quarter - accessible via a short Uber or bus ride!

ABOUT US:
We'll stay out of your way after we say hello and help bring your bags past the uneven brick sidewalk. But we LOVE our neighborhood/city and are happy to provide recommendations for food, music, etc. Just ask!

RECAP:
Cool-ish owners, incredible area, cute little old standalone home but new rental.  Have fun in this quirky guest house named after our dog, Gris Gris.  We look forward to hosting you in the most vibrant neighborhood of New Orleans with a private historic cottage that brings all the comforts of home.

We absolutely loved our stay here! The neighborhood has an artistic flare and spirit we thoroughly enjoyed. We used the blue bikes to get around as well as walked to most places, including the French Quarter. Greg was extremely attentive and helpful and the place was exactly like the pictures as well as very clean. We will be back!

Really nice place in a great location
This property was a great place to stay - a really nice self-contained unit back from the street with everything you need. In a week there I didn’t need to buy anything besides food and drink. The only downside was that the a/c wasn’t as cool as hotels on the hotter days but there was a lot more space and character and worth the trade off. I like the Bywater neighborhood and it was a nice walk to Frenchmen Street and the French Quarter. Everyone around the neighborhood was super friendly too.

Quaint cottage, fantastic location, and hospitable host!
My fiancé and I stayed at the cottage with our two dogs while attending our friends’ wedding in the Bywater. The space was very clean and well-equipped with whatever you’d need, including a dog bed for the pups. The host was flexible and welcoming from the moment we checked in! We loved being able to walk down the street to the river with our dogs or go to a cute coffee shop for breakfast. We highly recommend this cottage for its location and privacy, but most of all, the host will make you feel right at home!

Perfect for overnight getaway to NOLA
This little Bywater cottage was a perfect resting place for us for a quick night out in New Orleans. The cottage is tucked back behind the main house and very private. The cottage was cozy and clean and perfect for the two of us. The bed was comfortable and we got a good night’s sleep even though it’s a smaller bed than our king!. It was a little chilly at night, but the space heater helped! I loved the location and will definitely look up this listing for future trips to New Orleans. It was easy and inexpensive to Uber around the Bywater and French quarter from this location.

Quirky and perfect
This was an anniversary trip and our first time to New Orleans- we had so much fun and this was the perfect hub for all of the good food we devoured and amazing places we visited! Don’t rent a car- entire city is walkable or use the blue bike app to get around. The cottage was clean and comfortable just as advertised. Will stay here again and recommend to friends!

This is THE Place!
This is a true cottage: comfortable and charming! We did not meet the owners, but did have communication with them upon arrival. They were very professional, and we were beyond pleased that they accommodate a dog. A clean cottage with all the comforts of home. We found ourselves relaxing in the 2 sitting chairs in the cozy living room, listening to local WWOZ and didn’t want to move! We loved walking the neighborhood to nearby restaurants, coffee/bakery and dive bars. Bacchanal wines and Parleaux beer lab are a step up. On our daily dog walks, we admired the architecture of houses extending back a quarter of a block in an array of color variations. Our last day we visited the Bark Market for all things dog and art supplies before stopping in the FQ to visit our favorite shops and bars (Cosimo’s is known for its dog friendly atmosphere)! If you are a frequent visitor to the French quarter, you know how hectic it becomes with all the tourists, do yourself a favor and have a local experience in the Bywater in this secluded and secure cottage!

Wonderful place and location
Totally impressed with this location. It was only my husband and I this trip, the house was perfect. If we travel again by ourselves, we will definitely come back. We even had an unforeseen illness on our way there with my husband going into hospital and they understood completely and handled it very professionally. It was a very relaxing home and we could walk to many places in that neighborhood.

The goal was quiet and relaxing, and it was achieved!
We enjoyed staying at the beautiful cottage for our 13th year anniversary, it definitely felt like home. The neighborhood is lovely, super walkable and safe. We walked to a few restaurants nearby, and got more of a local vibe than the touristy bustle of the French Quarter. Parking was not an issue at all, which is something I was concerned about before. Overall wonderful place to stay if you’re looking to relax and unwind.
