Historic Boutique Shotgun Mid-City Apartment

Historic, charming 2 Bed 1 Bath apartment that is part of a double shotgun house located two blocks from beautiful City Park in Mid-City, the heart of New Orleans.

My house is five blocks (7 min walk) from the Canal St. streetcar, which will lead you straight to the French Quarter or allow you to connect to the St. Charles line to visit the the beautiful Garden District of Uptown New Orleans.

Built in the 1920s, this 2 bedroom apartment has one queen sized bed, one full sized bed, and one sleeper sofa, accommodating 4-6 people with ease and comfort. The floor plan (approx. 950 sq. ft.) is a typical style “shotgun” with the original pine hardwood floors, 12’ ceilings, antique doors and mantels. The apartment has many recent renovations and updates with local style and creative décor while keeping the original architectural elements to help you feel like you are living like a local while enjoying your visit!

The front porch private entry doorway opens into the front den and living room including a movie theater style sofa for two, two chairs, two antique libraries, antique fireplace (nonfunctioning), and 40" flat screen smart TV with full cable and WiFi access to ensure you are comfortable while relaxing from your New Orleans adventures. The two precious libraries act as the dividing wall between the den and living room, where you will find a dining table for 4. Down the short hallway you will find a full bath with a shower/bathtub to your right, and a little further down another private entrance/exit via a side door to the house. This hallway then leads to the first private queen bedroom equipped with a large closet, spacious dresser, and 40 inch Smart TV. The next room is a fully equipped, newly renovated kitchen with granite countertops and brand new stainless steel appliances. The last room in the house is the second private bedroom equipped with an open wardrobe and 40" flat screen TV with Google chrome cast. This bedroom has a back door that leads directly outside to the back patio, which includes access to the washer and dryer located in a covered area of the back shed. Note that whoever you have to walk through the queen bedroom to get to the bathroom if you are staying in the full bedroom in the back. Other options are to go out the back door and enter the house through the side door or front door to aces the bathroom with out walking through the queen bedroom.

The house is located at the crossroads of two wonderful neighborhoods referred to as Mid-City and City Park. Mid-City, which is known as the "heart of New Orleans" is a place where locals live as a neighborhood rather than just an area of New Orleans. It is a place filled with a community spirit that resonates with its residents old and new. Mid-City has become the new, revitalized and young neighborhood of New Orleans and is attracting young professionals from all over the country who have recently relocated to New Orleans working in the medical fields. With the nearby addition of shopping centers and restaurants, Whole Foods, expansion of City Park attractions and the construction of the new medical facilities on Tulane Avenue and the Veterans Affairs Hospital to be completed in 2016, Mid-City is the place to be!

Just a couple of blocks away is City Park, one of the nation’s oldest urban parks with 1,300-acres of beautiful grounds, serene water gardens, ancient live oak trees and magical offerings. The park features the New Orleans Museum of Art, putt-putt golf course, regular 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, play grounds, Botanical Gardens, Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Train Garden, City Splash, Pan American Stadium and various music and theatrical productions throughout the year. The park also offers a host of family-friendly activities, including children’s larger-than-life storybook sculptures in “Storyland” and the one-of-a-kind antique wooden carousel in the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park – a hand-carved marvel of “flying horses” that has been a family favorite for nearly 100 years.

Enjoy a beautiful day on the water at “Big Lake” in City Park with paddle boat rentals, gondola rides, fishing, wildlife viewing, kayaking, and canoeing. Walking/jogging trails, biking paths, horse back riding, yoga, bike and surrey rentals, basketball courts, soccer fields, roller blading, and more are just some of the many outdoor activities available in City Park. Spend a lazy afternoon with the ducks, swans and geese on the park’s historic bayous and lagoons, while sipping on a café au lait at Morning Call. City Park is home to the world’s largest stand of mature live ancient oaks, modern art and everything in between .

If you want to party like a local during Mardi Gras, we are in the midst of the Endymion parade route with the comfort of not being directly on it. Just 2 blocks away is the staging of the massive optical floats and where the famous Mardi Gras Endymion parade begins at the City Park Avenue and Orleans intersection on the Saturday before Fat Tuesday. Locals start planting their marks and setting up camp days in advance in preparation for the Mid-City party of the year. You can enjoy the craziness but not be stuck in it as we are tucked away in a convenient section of our block. You can even host your own party living like a local!

We assure that you will feel like you are “living like a local” in our home while you visit New Orleans!

Great location and neighborhood. It was close to everything we needed and wanted to do. The host was amazing and I truly appreciate it Manoli. My only complaint is that the beds weren't the most comfortable. Outside of that everything was great.

Great Mid City Location!
Nice neighborhood near City Park and all the cemeteries. About 1-1/2 miles to/from Fairgrounds. We were there for JazzFest and it was quiet, yet close to everything. House was clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The owner/property manager had great communication with us which was a plus!

Great location!!
We enjoyed our stay and location. We walked to City Park, restaurants and events. The place was very clean for an older home. Manoli was easy to communicate with. I did not realize you had to walk through a bedroom to get to the kitchen. It was fine since there were only two of us. Overall a great stay!!

Great Location
The owner was very responsive and easy to work with. Clean and tidy home. We enjoy walking and the outdoors and this was a great location. Less than 5 minutes to the City Park and about the same to get to the trolley. You can take the trolley to downtown. Restaurants within 15 minute walk. Our last day we found a bike/walking trail that starts around the grocery store Dixy that you can take to the Frenchmarket which is about 2.5 miles from there. Would definitly stay at this location.

Marvelous Mid-City home away from home!!!
We were very impressed with the cleanliness, furnishings & luxurious bedding. It was well stocked with necessary supplies however, a grocery store is within walking distance for convenience. You’ll find a cute little tavern down the street and City Park is within walking distance. NOLA’S most popular attractions are easily accessible!!! We highly recommend this adorable shotgun style rental!🙌 🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠

Awesome!
Thanks for allowing us to stay in your shotgun. My daughter and son-in-law live in NOLA. They have a new baby. We needed extra beds to sleep the aunt and uncles coming to meet the new niece. The place was very clean and decorated well with comfy beds and soft linens. We would rent again if we needed a place to stay.

SWEET & perfectly peaceful in the heart of a crazy fun town!!!! We WILL be returning!
Could not have had a more perfect place or location in New Orleans. A true taste of this city can be savored in this "shotgun" double! Beautifully restored and renovated to exceed your expectations with all the modern conveniences. Having grown up in a midcity neighborhood, this place took me right back to my childhood. The owners have take great care to provide for your needs while here, and we will absolutely return for our next and future visits to my lovely native city!!!! Thanks so much for making our visit feel like "coming home"!!!

away from the madness
The apartment is just like the pictures. It was a few miles from the madness of Bourbon St and all the shopping. Which was a good thing. Nice apartment. Bad things - the street was a mess and street parking was tight. The neighbors dogs. The floors were dirty. Otherwise, great place.

Wonderful Short Trip! Wish it could have been longer!
Entry into the house was easy. All the rooms were clean and tidy. We had everything we needed as far as towels, sheets etc. The kitchen had all of the utensils and a coffee maker with coffee in the cabinet! The beds were comfortable! We were able to park in front of the house. Winn-Dixie is close by and I door dashed breakfast one morning. Canal Street isn't far away and you can buy a pass for the street cars—research on parking structures and lots before you set out on any adventures. We did do a lot of walking, and the house it nice to come home to after a long day. I had no issues with noisy neighbors. They were over there but I only saw them once. We did try to stay quiet after 10:00 and tried to make sure the TV was turned down and all. The property was as listed, and the communication emails were all we needed to make sure we had a great stay. Thank you!

Well-suited apartment
We rented the apartment to meet our daughter in NOLA and attend one of her events at the museum of art as she finished her residency in design program. The apartment was as described; clean and well-maintained. The beds were very comfortable. The lay out is odd (a bedroom between the kitchen and dining area) due to the "shotgun" style however it was easily remedied by moving the dining table and chairs into the kitchen. We cooked breakfast and some other meals though missed having a mechanical dishwasher. We had no problem parking on the street despite some space taken up by impending road work. A few blocks away is City Park, a beautiful place to take a stroll and meander through the sculpture garden. We did quite a bit of sightseeing. We highly recommend the cemetery tour (Save the Cemeteries operator), World War II museum (spent 4-1/2 hours and did not see the entire museum), swamp tour (Cajun Encounters operator), Audubon Insectarium and Zoo, and Preservation Hall. The cuisine is delightful. We had shrimp po' boy, mufalata (Central Market), turtle soup, oysters, red beans and rice, alligator, pralines, etc.... We ate at Cafe du Mond, Dat Dog and Commander's Palace to name a few eating establishments. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and recommend this apartment. Customer service was excellent, from making the reservation to departing for home.

Perfect location and clean little home
We had a wonderful experience at the property. Everything was clean and working well when we arrived. If you aren’t familiar with New Orleans, Mid-city is a safe, very central location with a lot of charm on its own, and only blocks from City Park, which is one of the most beautiful urban parks in the country. We really appreciated the central air, washer-dryer, and strong WiFi. We were able to work from the house, which was an unexpected bonus. The beds were comfortable, and the house was very quiet. Bring a sleep mask if you like it completely dark when you sleep! I Highly recommend this property.
