Darrs Beach Cottage

Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'

Come visit the sleepy little town of Neskowin and stay at this charming, laid-back one bedroom cottage. You and your family can spend relaxing days lounging out on the wrap-around deck, walking down to the beach, and enjoying the slower pace of life on the Oregon coast.

Enter through a vintage blue door and into the homey and open living room, dining room, and kitchen area. There are tall, slanted wood ceilings, comfortable furniture, and a wood burning fireplace to keep you warm and toasty on chilly coast nights. Just pop the popcorn and gather the family around for a night of board games or watching DVDs. There's even a DVD library if you forget to pack your favorites from home.

The cheery and eclectic kitchen is well-stocked with a refrigerator, oven and stovetop, microwave, tea kettle, and coffeemaker -- everything you need to enjoy a great meal. There isn't a dishwasher but hey, even doing dishes can be fun when you're on vacation!

You can savor your meals on a one-of-a-kind bottle-cap mosaic table designed by the owner and her grandchildren! The dining room area also has large picture windows for great views of the scenic, quiet neighborhood. There's also a breakfast bar with four stools for grabbing a quick bite to eat in the morning before heading out for a day of coastal adventures.

The bedroom has a queen sized bed, reading lamps, and cozy bedding. A twin rollaway bed is stored in the closet, and can easily be set up in the living room by the full-sized sofa bed. Two adults and up to three children can very comfortably enjoy this family getaway. You'll even find an outdoor shower so you can rinse your feet clean after a day at the beach!

The bathroom is bright and colorful, with handmade tiles and custom artwork. A roomy bathtub is the perfect size for a relaxing bubble bath: just lay back, have a glass of wine, and admire the bathroom's crafty charm. Right across from the bathroom is a high efficiency washer and dryer so you can keep everyone in clean and warm socks after a day playing in the sand.

As cute and quirky as the inside of this delightful cottage is, you'll find yourself spending a lot of time outside! Right out the door is a wonderful deck with comfy chairs, a picnic table, and fire pit for toasting marshmallows. There's also a quirky birdhouse collection and lots of lush green grass for kids. The fenced back yard is a very nice place to turn the kids loose to explore and play while preparing dinner on the gas grill. You'll find that this laid back community is really all about family fun. After dinner, head out on a walk around the neighborhood or spend the afternoons riding bikes down the quiet, residential streets.

If you take a stroll just two blocks west, you'll find yourself on the peaceful, uncrowded beach with miles and miles of coast to explore. Take your shoes and socks off and walk along the surf while you hunt for shells and pieces of agate. For golfers, the Neskowin Golf Course is mere blocks from the house, and for art lovers, the Hawk Creek Gallery is also nearby.

Many other shopping, entertainment, and dining options are plentiful in the nearby towns of Pacific City, about 15 minutes north and Lincoln City, 20 minutes to the south. Back in Neskowin, local favorite Hawk Creek Cafe is re-opening in July 2013 and located only blocks from the house. Darrs Beach Cottage is a special home base for enjoying this unassuming little beach town, perfect to help you slow down and enjoy some time together as a family!

Darrs Beach Cottage
This was a decent budget value for 1-3 people. Could do with a few more basic amenities like a coat rack, box of tissues, and new tea kettle (current is rusty). Overall the stay was nice and the location was hard to beat but the musty odor and lack of comforts made it a one-time stay.

Solid place to stay.
One block from the beach and includes basic amenities. House itself is quirky - the washer and dryer seem to be non functioning, the life-size pirate hanging from the living room ceiling is a little weird, and there is no WiFi. Access to the beach is why one would choose to stay here (and in Neskowin in general).

Just an average stay.
There was a bit of a musty odor inside the property and some stains on some of the bedding. The overall cottage was very wonky and fun to explore. The backyard was very nice with a fireplace.

There was a lot of unique nick knacks inside the property and out. This is a fun place for kids and adults who enjoy novelty. The property had a musty odor upon entry and there were some stains on the pillowcases.

Great birthday weekend
I want solo, i felt safe and comfortable even at night in the area. Cozy house, no wifi but i was looking to escape technology, bring food with you or plant to buy groceries. I will definitely be going again.

Weekend away
We wanted some family beach time and this was perfect. Very eccentric home, with all the comfort of home. Steps from the beach, dinning or quick drive to Lincoln city.

Amazingly close to the beach but interior may not be for everyone
The location was amazing! The interior has a ton of nicknacks and oddities. Lots of space for a one bedroom beach cabin especially with the large back deck.

Nice place but needs some love
Overall it was a good spot for a weekend getaway but probably not for a longer stay. Some thoughts: Pros:location was amazing. Price was a bargain. The theme was fun and you could tell the owners put a lot of effort into it. The house was very clean when we got there. Cons: like prior reviewers said the place could use some TLC. The fridge still leaks, the washer/dryer still has the same issues. This listing would be an easy 5 star if those things were addressed.

Best location
We loved this property and especially the location? The beach in Neskowin is by far the most beautiful, tranquil beach we've been to on the west coast. The cottages around, including this one, are picturesque to say the least. The property is clean and the green space outside is wonderful! Outdoor shower with hot water! Everything was perfect. I do wish Vacasa would provide things like coffee and salt but whatever. Great little cafe too.

Very eclectic home
Was nice to have a place to rest my head. Captain Cook kept my company. Back yard & deck was nice to just relax. This place was not all that clean. Bedding was questionable, although I brought my own. It seemed like the tub & sinks cleaned, floors felt dirty, as well as the couches. Housekeeping could do much better. I used to be one.

Nightmare by the beach
Do not rent this home. The mold and mildew smell is so strong it makes it almost unlivable. We had to run fans nonstop with the windows open to be in the house. The home had obviously not been cleaned with hair and old food in the carpet, dust on every surface and grime on all countertops and kitchen floor. There is a giant life size pirate statue hanging on a rope from the living room ceiling and the home is “decorated” with odd broken junk. There are hand written notes on paper and directly on appliances threatening fines if things are used, moved or touched. There were broken tiles in the bathroom and broken chairs on the back deck I can’t believe this home is allowed to be rented out in this condition. The only saving grace is the pretty garden and it being a couple blocks from the beach. Reading the previous reviews on this rental shows people have been complaining about the same issues for almost 10 years with responses stating the issue has been resolved but it has not. Let my mistake in not reading these be a lesson. The maintenance person brought us a fan of their own because the owner refused to buy one for this property. Not worth the price or the allergy issues.

We enjoyed the location and how clean it was. It was quiet and the amineties were good. What we did not like was how low the toilet was and all the dust and spider webs around the windows. I really hate spiders. since we spent most of our time outside the property I did not have to look for them but their webs showed they were there. We would consider staying there again if the toilet were updated.

Family Cabin, Not Vacation Cabin
During our stay we minimized time indoors. There were cobwebs on walls, ceilings, and inside the dish cupboard (look up). The living room furniture was old and not inviting to sit on. The refrigerator still leaks even though Vacasa said last year that it was to be repaired. The tub enclosure is falling apart. There are stuffed toys hanging over the toilet—I cannot even imagine how germy they are. The deck and yard were lovely, so we tried to stay outside. It is clear this is a much loved family cabin, but the charm is lost amidst the clutter and appliances in need of repair.

Do not stay here!!
This place was terrible. The electric lock to get in the house barely worked - you had to jam each number in order for it to work. The house was musty and smelled old. The carpet was full of crumbs that stuck to our socks. The bath towels had long black hairs in them, and the shower head was so low that if you’re taller (like me) I stood above the nozzle, which was at neck level. There was black sharpie written on everything - pictures, the fridge, the washer and dryer. Don’t even bother trying to use anything without reading the black sharpie scribbled everywhere. The sink was dirty and had food stuck to it. Everything was extremely outdated and the fridge leaks. There’s a glass pan in the fridge (with sharpie on it) to catch leaks in the fridge. This place is not clean, it’s creepy, and to top it off there is no service or internet. With no Wi-Fi to do work, and no service to even use a hotspot - this place is a breeding ground for nightmares. Do not stay here!!

My 4 year old loved it!
First, I want to say the location was great and the backyard was perfect. A beautiful, blooming garden, a fire pit (BYO wood and matches) and plenty of seating. And so many birds! I really wanted to like the quirkiness of this rental, but it ended up feeling over the top, cluttered and claustrophobic. Our two night stay was plenty of time and usually I don’t want to leave the coast! My four year old loved it though - but I’m very glad I prepared her for the pirate. He’s huge. Other things: The kitchen is adequate, the bed-linens are shabby, the shower has great hot water but is (as other reviewers mentioned) super low. Sit down to wash your hair and it’s great with the colorful tile! There is a generous sharing of sand toys, good parking, and huge windows (don’t expect dark rooms for sleep). Didn’t use the washer/dryer or electronics. Fridge space is limited by a cake pan on the top shelf catching drips. Cobwebs aplenty but otherwise felt clean. Check-out was ambiguous as we received absolutely no instructions on what the expectations are. My kid wants to know when we are going back, but we will likely choose a different spot in the future.

Cute, but desperately needs work
Very cute neighborhood, loved that part. However…. This home is in need big need of a face lift. The fridge has marker written on it for instructions, with a water dropping pan inside of it where the fridge leaks. There is marker written on so many things in the house in case of no hot water, the long list of issues with the washer and dryer… etc. The washer and dryer aren’t worth the hassle. Overall, it needs updates before I would consider this a good place to rent to folks. It is advertised in a way that is a bit misleading. When I am paying this much money I want ZERO issues. Instead, there was a bunch of odd things. The closet of towels were legit all wet and mildew smelling. They were folded away damp… No pepper or salt, there was a coffee maker and no coffee filters? (I left some). Yes there are pots and pans, but common household things in a kitchen any home would need ? No… prepare to buy everything you’d need for your home kitchen just to stay a few nights. Needs: new fridge, new washer and dryer, and common household kitchen supplies… Very clean and safe though.

This property was just okay - the floors and bed were fine, but the refrigerator in the kitchen was functioning but leaked so much that there was pan in the fridge with a sharpie not that instructed the renter to empty and replace if full and no crisper bins - none. The washer and dryer also had sharpie notes that explained blamed their condition on previous renters. No hanging space - none - and sand in the drawers so we lived out of suitcases for a month. For the price, I wasn't expecting perfect, but functioning would have been nice. The thing that really burned me up was that we called and called and called and begged someone to help us with the connection from the dvd to the remote - there was something missing and we couldn't get anyone to come out - they just blamed us for being technologically stupid. We were there a week and we knew it was going to rain, so we brought DVDs - So that was a frustration. They kept promising that they would come but no one did. I will NEVER rent from Vacasa ever again! Even asked for a partial refund with NO response - bad business to deal with.

a unique house in a very quiet neighborhood
When I saw Jack the Pirate hanging from the ceiling, I knew it'd be perfect for our beach trip to celebrate my boy's birthday. He loved Jack and Jenny. The house, although doesn't have a view, is just two blocks from the beach and we enjoyed walking through the quiet neighborhood with slow speed signs in front of almost every house. It has a beautiful backyard. The rain kept us from sitting on the porch but I'm sure it'd be lovely sitting outside in spring and summer when it's dry. I was a little worried about having no internet since it's a first for us, but I think our small family of three got used to it quickly and enjoyed the exclusiveness. A few reasons I gave it a 4-star. 1. Cleanness: When we first arrived, the entryway and the carpet in the living room weren't cleaned very well and looked dirty and not being vacuumed. Lots dishes, utensils and pots and pans were put back when they weren't cleaned. The four out of six coffee cups hanging on the rack next to the coffee machine had coffee residual. I blame the previous renters for that and not Vacasa. People should clean up after themselves. 2. Amenities: When I read the description, I thought the house, at least the kitchen, would be well-stocked. Well, it's not. I've stayed at quite a few Vacasa rentals by now and this house by far had the least amount of basic kitchen stuff like salt and pepper, baking soda, etc. I know the owners are not required to provide any condiments and I did bring my own, but still it surprised me that there's not any condiments whatsoever. I couldn't find a pair of regular scissors either until the last day my husband found a pair of kitchen scissors. The knives we tried were very dull, so I was glad I brought a chef's knife with me. I wish there were a hair dryer. Even the cheapest kind would be nice. All in all, I think this is a great place for a small family (only one bedroom) wants to relax and disconnect from the busy world.

Clearly this is a beloved family get-away and we're so grateful to be allowed to share sush a special space. **** and ***** **** were excellent hosts. With a short walk east to the market and an equally short walk west to the beach it was a perfect location for some peaceful fun.
