You can tell the rooms are a bit worn down but still functional. The room I was in had a very strong body odor scent that made the stay somewhat unpleasant. The restaurant onsite is amazing and the food was incredible. Hotel is also near gas station/convenience store, coffee/food truck with really cool owners, and a couple other restaurants. The town is really small so you can’t expect too much but for what it is it was a great time!
Second time staying at this property and it is always great! Great location if you are planning on doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Room was spacious and clean. Staff was friendly.
Clean, compact and warm room with comfortable beds, super close to tongariro national park which is where we wanted to spend a couple of days. Kids loved the split level room (we stayed in a quad mezzanine room). No microwave or sink in the kitchenette so the tiny bathroom sink is the only place to get water. The restaurant had a variety of options (including some options for vegetarians). Would recommend staying here for a night if you are intending to spend time at tongariro national park otherwise there is nothing much else to do this side.
I was disappointed with my stay at the park hotel. The room itself was warm with the radiator on, nice shower and comfy bed. However, the main issue was with the noise. You could hear absolutely everyone walking about the place and it was really loud at all times of the night. This led to a poor night's sleep and being tired the next morning for a long walk. I wouldn't recommend staying here
This was a great place for us 3 adventure motorcyclists. Weather turned bad so we were early and staff were great.. got into room early.
Everything very much like a ski lodge, great atmosphere in bar / dining area.
Very limited choices of accomodation and dining in this area. Their restaurant had large outside bookings so little availability for guests. Only a kettle in the room. No microwave. When you need to prepare your own meals because you are in the middle of no where they were not helpful. Staff member told me they dont offer microeaves bc they are a 'hotel'. This was not a north american classification of hotel. All rooms were accessed by noisy exterior corridor. They were not soundproof so could hear all that walked by. The room was exceprionslly small (not even a small area to put a small backpack. The bath towels were set out beside the kettle. The layout was terrible. Couldnt watch tv from bed; tv was behind you. The second night we tried again to go to their restaurant. Tables were empty but with reserved sign on top. We were refused. An hour later some tables were still empty and waiting for guests. Poor management and unpleasant stay.

A very good job was done by the restaurant staff handling an extremely busy evening for the Spiral Restaurant. And the meal was excellent as well!
