Our Very Private Log Cabin Retreat is situated on your private bank of the beautiful Chalk Creek, and is nestled in the heart of Colorado's most spectacular 14,000 foot Peaks, (Mount Princeton, Antero, Yale), and the Famous White Chalk Cliffs, overlooking Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Pools. Visit the recently awarded Browns Canyon National Park, which is just a short drive away. Spend your day just relaxing with the sound of Chalk Creek at your back yard or adventure out for a day of rafting, horseback riding, fishing, hiking, ATVing along with all the winter activity. For Skiing, Monarch is about an hour away along with all the other major ski resorts like ski cooper, Brechenridge, Copper, Vail etc.. just a bit further. Our 1,200 sq.ft., two bedroom Log Cabin is surrounded by spectacular quaking Aspens and Mature Pines, with views of Mt. Princeton and Antero just outside your living room/kitchen windows. Relax on one of two decks, or enjoy sitting in a forest eco-system overlooking the rushing waters of Chalk Creek. Enjoy our new outdoor fireplace which can be used even during fire restrictions. If you enjoy fishing, test your skills in one of the many nearby lakes, or just walk a few feet down to your private 200 feet of creekside fishing.

Our authentic Log Cabin has a Southwestern/Mountain decor and has been restored with all the modern conveniences while maintaining its rustic charm. The living room has a large wood burning fireplace, satellite with 42" flat screen TV/DVD, player, Vaulted tongue and groove Aspen ceilings, and ample seating.

The master bedroom has a luxurious king-size bed, vaulted ceilings, skylights with block out shades. The second bedroom has two twin size beds.

The large kitchen/dining area has all the modern conveniences along with a working antique cast iron cook stove, if you choose to cook the old fashion way. Enjoy a small camp fire on those chilly nights. If you like to ATV and/or Snowmobile, our location is perfect for connecting to a multitude of trails without having to trailer to them to a trail head. No trailers larger that 21 ft allowed.

Nearby activities include white-water rafting, hiking, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, mountain biking, golf etc., or simply relax in one of Colorado's best Olympic size, Natural Mountain Hot Spring Pools. Free fiber based WiFi for our guests along with Fire TV.

Very beautiful property with nature sounds all around. Katie, the host, met us on property and made sure we were checked in and had everything we needed. She was very kind and helpful. We really enjoyed her recommendations on things to do in the area.

Lovely cabin by the creek
The setting for this cabin was outstanding. The sound of the creek, peaceful location and good size living spaces made for a relaxing vacation. The nearby location is great for hiking, hot springs, mountain passes (Cottonwood) and lakes. A good slice of being in Colorado.

5 days in heaven
The cabin was perfect. It offers all the cleanliness and comforts of a home but in a mountain cabin . . We had absolutely everything we needed . The amenities are well thought of . The host Katie was extremely sweet and made checking in and out easy peasy . The views were amazing including the Moose and her calf who came to visit one morning while having our coffee . We were sad to leave but will be back to this cabin every opportunity we get .

Loved the creek!
The cabin is just as described and very comfortable. There are some very good steps down the hillside to the creek. The light is spectacular through the aspen and pine with the mountains behind in all directions. Gorgeous!

Excellent Cabin
My good friend and I stayed there for a few nights and really enjoyed it. The property is fantastic. Very serene and close to some excellent ATV/4x4 trails as well as numerous other activities. The hosts were wonderful and were there to greet us and make sure we were all set. Can’t recommend it enough. We look forward to going back!

Cozy and clean, great location!
My only comment would be that I wish the listing said to bring your own fire wood for both the outdoor and indoor fireplace. Other than that it was a great clean well stocked place, and I would stay again!

Great Getaway
Wonderful place to get away and relax. Easy access, but not in a high traffic area. Close enough to stores and activities, but once there you may not want to leave! Able to unplug and reset, but still had all the conveniences needed to keep teenagers happy. We had a great time and would love to return in the fall to see the Aspens in color sitting on the deck.

This rental is exactly as described and promised. The house is warm, comfortable, inviting and kept very well. We stayed in the winter but cannot wait to get back here and stay in the summer because of that beautiful deck. The setting is peaceful, the kitchen is very well stocked, and our family of four enjoyed every minute of all three nights we spent here. A real gem.

Perfect Getaway
Our family had an awesome experience right away with simple check in and great communication with our hosts. The cabin was super clean, stocked with what we needed, and an even better location than what we expected. The private access to chalk creek was picturesque and the perfect place to soak in the solitude and unwind. We had a great time enjoying the nearby "ghost town" in St Elmo feeding the chipmunks by hand, hiking nearby 14ers, and getting a little town exposure in Buena Vista. We've spent quite a bit of time in Colorado in the last few years and this is our favorite cabin so far. We hope to visit again soon.

Did not want to leave!
We loved this cabin! It was very clean and the beds were comfortable. There were plenty of utensils for cooking. The deck was amazing. But, the best thing about the whole property was the location! I really don’t have the words. We saw dear in the area every day and, one day, three just came walking through the yard. You can sit on the deck and look at Mt. Antero, a 14er as they say. Seriously, we all were very sad to leave. We would stay again in a heartbeat.

Perfect Peaceful Place to Get away in the mountains!
Such a wonderful cabin and setting! My husband and I enjoyed our stay so much - we hated to have to leave!. So peaceful and quiet. Clean, comfortable, warm and inviting. A true home away from home in the San Isabel National Forest. Attention to detail! I can't imagine anyone not absolutely falling in love with this cabin and location. Mountains!!! Wildlife!! Chalk Creek, nearby hiking, waterfalls, hot springs, horse riding stables, short drive to surrounding towns. Can't recommend enough. Just book it!!! You won't regret. We are already planning our return next year.

Charming Cabin in a peaceful setting.
We loved the cabin and the setting! Hearing the creek at night was very peaceful. We had everything we needed in the cabin. We had dinner a couple of night at the cabin. I do suggest getting needed items in Buena Vista before checking in. My only thing I wish was a little better was the WiFi. Our cell phones did not work but we could use the land line in the cabin. But in a way, it was good we didn't have our cell phones to distract from the beauty around us. Overall, we loved it! We hope to return!

Attractive cabin just above beautiful creek
Beautiful remote location. Great cabin. Owner very responsive. Warm welcome. Better driving directions (nearer to property) would have been appreciated. GPS led us to the wrong area. You could say don’t go on 292a, b or c. Take 292, immediate right after bridge for example. Cleaning fee is too high particularly in view of being instructed to return place to its original state, which we did. Please supply some regular sized wine glasses women can hold (that are glass). Juice sized glasses would be helpful too.

Beauty and Peace
The comfortable cabin is located in a very scenic and quiet area. The bright yellow Aspen all around were beautiful and the creek was peaceful to listen to. Mt. Antero was right outside our door and in view of the relaxing deck to sit on and enjoy the outdoors. We were treated on 2 mornings by deer quietly munching on the grass and bushes. One morning we woke up to a light dusting of snow on everything, which was great. The hosts, Katie and Curt, are so friendly and do everything to make our stay wonderful. Since we've been to this cabin 3-4 times, it's like coming home to friends. And watching Cassie, their dog, run across the deck was fun. We always look forward to coming to this cabin and being greeted by Katie. We will be back at the first opportunity.

Nice cabin in the woods close to the creek
+ Very clean, owners are very responsive and live nearby. Nice location - you can see creek from the cabin 50 yards away, easily accessible. If you come in the winter and have 2WD consider getting chains. Cabin is on dirt road without any plowing. Even if you have 4wd, you may need chains or winter tires. Not a negative - just be prepared! - No cell phone reception, internet is satellite and very slow - good for checking email and a web page or two, but not for skype or remote desktop connection. This is true off the grid leaving.

Beautiful Authentic log cabin experience
If anyone wants a truely authentic log cabin built in an originally old mining town, this is the place. We stay here for a week over the 4th of July about 4-5 years ago. I neglected to leave a review at that time even though we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. For a true Colorado mountain getaway, this is the place. The cabin/ house was originally built by the owners father, who was a mail carrier in Salida and he built this by hand working on it during the weekends in the 1950s for a vacation home for the family. It has so much character, peace and beauty. We loved sitting on the deck to watch the sunset. The altitude is a higher level so if you are not use to it drink plenty of water. Thank for a wonderful stay and sorry about the delay in review. Our two miniature schnauzers loved watching the deer that we would see every day.

High Alpine Solitude
We immensely enjoyed our stay here. Katie and her husband were very responsive and helpful!... This cabin is by a rushing class 4 whitewater stream that was in perfect form during our stay in June 2021..... this was a trip to show our 11 yr old grandson the beauty of the Rockies in an area we have come to love ( The Buena Vista /Mt Princeton Area)...the only item we needed help with was how to operate the DVD player/ that was an accessary to the satellite system(after traveling all day and getting in late we just wanted to relax and watch a DVD) and Katie and her husband came and showed us how immediately. We lingered every morning cooking breakfast and every evening with a fire in the fireplace..... this property is on the road that goes to the St Elmo Ghost town and the Alpine tunnel as well as other vistas and is a great location if you like to explore these types of settings... as an added plus was a (Bean Bag Toss) game to play outside when we returned to our ("BASE Camp") that our grandson loved and we all played every night!... it would be redundant to state that the normal amenities like beds, baths, kitchen were in perfect condition and well stocked. This is a place to come and relax and enjoy the experience of the mountains!!!
